TREKKER TRAKKS January 2019

NW Tulip Trekkers Volkssport Walking Club From the President NWTT Members,

I hope that you are enjoying the holiday season and looking forward to walking with NWTT in 2019!

Cheryl and I like to start the New Year with the Emerald City Wanderers’ annual New Year’s Day walk in West Seattle. They host a walk in West Seattle on New Year’s Eve as well.

AVA and CVF clubs in the Northwest have some fun walking events scheduled in 2019. Events are scheduled in Ocean Shores (Feb), Victoria, BC (May), Central Oregon (Sept) and Winthrop (Sept) to name a few. AVA will be holding the National Convention in Albany, New York in June. At least six of us will be in Albany to represent NWTT.

We have quite a number of walks scheduled for the first quarter of 2019, so take a look at the schedule and mark your calendars. We have added new walks in Birch Bay, Coupeville and Mount Vernon. We have also revised some of our current walks.

A NWTT all member meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 9th. We will meet at 9:30 AM at Haggen on Division St in Mount Vernon. Members may choose to do one of the Mount Vernon YRE’s following the meeting. I will send out an agenda for the meeting after the first of the year.

We had such a successful Whidbey event that we decided to host another event this year. On April 6, we will host a one-day event on Guemes Island. Joe Pepia is the chair and he will graciously accept your help planning and carrying out this event.

I will see you on one of our first quarter walks.

2019 NWTT Board Member Elections

It is not too early to be thinking about club elections for 2019. Terms of current board members will end on June 30.

We need several volunteers to serve as our nomination committee for June elections. The responsibility of the committee is to gather names of those interested in the various positions and develop a ballot. The committee will then direct the voting process at one of our spring meetings. I urge new members to volunteer for this committee as a way to meet people and learn more about AVA.

AVA clubs are required to have a president, so we definitely need someone to run for this position. I will be completing my second year as president, which is the maximum allowed per our bylaws. The responsibilities of the president include setting agendas, coordinating with the Board to arrange and conduct meetings, coordinating voting on AVA issues as required and liaise with other AVA clubs on activities. Another aspect of the job is to work with YRE hosts to ensure NWTT develops a full calendar of walks and to oversee planning of our various social events. I encourage you to consider running for this position. The term is for one year with an option to run for a second year.

If you have interests in volunteering in other areas,, contact any of our Board members.

Welcome New members!

Holiday Party Success!

Though we missed some of you, we did have a wonderful holiday party in Sedro Woolley. Thank you Tom and Sue for taking the lead and doing much of the decorating and preparation. It was lovely! Even Santa himself made an appearance!
