BACKGROUND Nepal Area 147,181 sq. km

Unique geographical position and altitude variation.

Elevation : Lowest Kechana Kalan (60m) to Top of the world Mt. Everest (8848m) with in 150km.

Wild variation of ecosystem, bio-diversity, wildlife, thundering rivers, forested hills, frozen valley.

10 UNESCO heritage sites.

10 out of 14 8thousander, more that 200 peaks and mountains.

10 national parks, three wildlife reserves, six conservations areas and one hunting reserve

NEPAL - Heaven for travelers‘, trekkers & mountaineers.

OBJECTIVES

• To develop, promote and facilities to trekking area.

• Examine the trend of tourist arrival and popular destination for

trekking in Nepal.

• Evaluate the tourist arrivals for trekking and revenue generated

through them.

• Asses the effort of Government of Nepal and recommend for

development of trekking in Nepal. METHODOLOGY

Information and data collected through secondary data sources.

Civil Association.

•TAAN - Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal

•NTB - Nepal Tourism Board

•NMA - Nepal Mountaineering Association

BACKGROUD – TREKKING IN

NEPAL

Trekking is walking through village, trails,

mountains, valleys for pleasure or enjoyment.

Popular trekking trails of Nepal is basically

originated by trade and commerce in ancient

time. Route used by local villagers to move from

one village to another.

4 different types of trek : Hiking, Backpacking,

Teahouse & Camping.

Popular season : Spring (Mar, Apr, May) &

Autumn (Sep, Oct, Nov)

FINDINGS

• Sagarmatha National park, Annapurna Conservation

Area, Langtang receives highest no. of trekkers

respectively.

• Reason : Easy accessibility, Low organize and permit

cost, Tea house trek, near to Kathmandu.

• Restricted area such as Dolpo, Mustang,

Kanchenjunga, Manaslu receives low no. of trekkers.

• Reason : Hard accessibility, high organise and permit

cost, Only camping trekking can be done.

Positive Impacts : Utilization of natural resources,

Employment generation, socio-economic upliftment,

infrastructure of developemtn,

Negative : Over crowd, rise in price for locals, Culture &

religious declination and other unseen hazards.

Major Finding

• Nearly 25% of whole tourist arrival in Nepal prefer doing trekking.

• Popular destination in Nepal for trekking are Annapurna conservation area (62%), Everest area (29%) and Langtang area (5%)

% is total number of tourist doing trekking.

• Age group :31-45 age group people are most to come Nepal (1.3 million 2005-2012)

• Top five nationalities visiting Nepal : India, China, UK, USA, Germany.

Recommendation

•Political situation directly affects tourism industries, so political situation

should be stable and peace.

• To increase tourist traffic in constant manner, increase in publicity and

promotional activities.

• Infrastructure development : Hotels, amusement parks, Roads & highway

etc, Airport & aircrafts.

• Nepal government have to conscious about present scenario of tourism and

formulae law, rules, regulations on timely manner.

•Tourism organization, Government should focus on alternative destination

places exploration around major trails.

•Skill full man power development, training facilities, quality management.
