Promoting Confidence and Education in Young WomenThrough the Miss Hispanidad Pageant Eleven young women competed in the Miss Hispanidad Pageant onSunday, June 29th. The three fina l i s t were presented with a crown, asach, and a monetary prize. Attorney Polanco Speaks on Potential Immigration LawIssues Faced By Health Care PatientsPresenting to s taff members of Lincoln Community Heal th Center inDurham gave me the opportunity to both inform and to learn. Thesededicated people are charged with screening and enrol l ing ourcommunity for heal th insurance under the Affordable Care Act. It i skey that they understand the many obstacles faced by the immigrantcommunity in terms of lega l i zing their s tatus . We discussed TPS,DACA, U Visa , fami ly based peti tions , and employment basedpeti tions . One interesting question was - "Why does i t take longer forMexican's to adjust their s tatus then any other nationals a l l otherfactors being equal?" This led to an important conversation aboutthe s tand s ti l l s tate of our immigration system - such as theDepartment of State's backlog dating over 20 years for some MexicanNationals . Copa Telemundo: Soccer, Food, and Community ResourcesOn Sunday, June 22nd Telemundo Richmond had their CopaTelemundo at Ukrop Park. A soccer tournament presented by theMarines and many other loca l and national organizations . We werehappy to join these organizations in providing resources for thecommunity.
