Trenton MFRC ProgramsCommunity Information Services Through the Com-munity Information program, the MFRC promotes its own programs and other relevant community programs, services and activities. This is done through our newsletter “Touching Base”, our web site, the weekly base newspaper “Contact”, localnewspapersandflyers,andthroughcommunityout-reach, newcomer welcoming and information services.A Resource Library is available free of charge to the military community that includes books and magazines on a variety of topicsinbothofficiallanguages.The Education Information on Posting Service provides families with compre-hensive information regarding educational programs, resources and facilities.The Discount Program for Military features local businesses offering discount to military families.

Volunteer ProgramThe volunteer program at the MFRC complements, enhances, and ensures the existence of other programs and services at the Centre.It provides an opportunity for the volunteer to achieve personal growth, a positive self-image and a sense of well-being.It promotes community awareness and pride through teamwork and partici-pation. Because this program has no age limit, volunteer opportunities are available for both adults and youth.

Employment Assistance Services A comprehensive employment and post-secondary education assistance program available to civilian spouses/youth of CF members and/or reserv-ist as well as parents of single military members. Services include individual and group training sessions in the areas of job search/return to school, small business ownership (HERCS), portfolio development, employment cafes andonsite exam proctoring and more!

Personal Development Program The educational program is offered to enhance all as-pects of military family life. These programs provide individuals with opportunities to connect with others and develop their interpersonal skills and abilities and to have fun. Communication, arts and crafts, well-being classes and special events are some of the programs offered.

Emergency / Respite Childcare Services This service offers assistance to military families in the development of child-care plans for emergency situations and/or deployments.Emergency Caregivers, screened, trained and monitored by the MFRC staff, are available during emergencies. In some circumstances funding is avail-able for emergency care.

Separation and Reunion Support Services and Children’s Deployment Services The Family Separation and Reunion Support Services offer information, resources and support to the parents of single members, and the families of both Regular and Reserve Force members and parents of single members, who are absent from home due to military requirements.These programs and services facilitate the adjustment of the family when a member is deployed. Some of the services offered are a Deployment Re-source Centre, and a mail & package drop-off, pre and post deployment ses-sions, a Warm Line, children deployment support programs, email access at theCentre,informationpackagesspecifictodeploymentandavideotelecon-ference. Weekly evenings hosts a “Partner’s Away” networking meeting for spouses and a facilitated Deployment Peer Support program for children.

Francophone Social WorkerThe goal of this position is to provide service to Francophones within our community.The services include; assistance with crisis intervention, short term counsel-ling, social isolation, depression, couple counselling, social skills/ life skills, parenting with children and teenagers, personal well-being, self -esteem, addictions,trauma,separation/divorce,adaptationdifficultiesforchildrenandadults.Askingforhelptakesalotofcourage.Bytakingthisfirststep,youaretakingcontrol looking after the wellbeing for both yourself, and those who are close to you. The services on a multitude of constituencies; adults, adolescents and children. The operation can be done by an individual, family or group.

Second Language Training The Second Language Training program offers sessions of 60 hours of French or English as a second language.This training follows a standardized curriculum so participants can continue their studies at any MFRC in the country. You can also access Rosetta Stones license.

Children’s ProgramsFor children 0 to 5 years old, the MFRC works with community partners to offer the provision of Parent/Tot Drop-In programs, Pops & Tots and pre-registered play-groups led by trained facilitators, Drop-Off casual/respite childcare, childcare during MFRC programs and alter-native childcare information and resources to enhance parenting skills.Our Equipment Lending Library is a resource that provides access to equip-ment such as playpens, highchairs etc.

For specific needs children and youth, the MFRC assists parents to ac-cess information and resources, and fosters a support network for parents.

Youth ProgramFor youth 6 – 12 years and teens 13 – 18 years, the MFRC works with youth, teens and community part-ners to ensure the provision of youth/teens programs which promote emotional and social well-being and whichaddressidentifiedneeds.Someofthesepro-grams are: babysitting course, home alone, special events and youth council, a Youth Centre (613-392-2811 local 3265).

MFRC DaycareTheTrentonMFRCDaycareisanon-profitorganizationthatprovidesli-censed daycare to military and community families. It is governed by a Board of Directors and funded by parents user fees. We follow the Day Nurseries Act (DNA) which governs all licensed daycares in Ontario.Ourgoalistoofferyourfamilyahighqualityflexiblechildcareservicefor

children 6 months to 12 years of age. Our hours are 6:45 am - 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday all year round. We have 3 locations offering childcare programs. The sites are located at St.Mary’s Catholic School; the Hangar and the main site at the MFRC. We of-fer childcare for house hunting trips, moving days

Prevention, Support & Intervention Program These services assist family members in dealing with issues and concerns before they become a crisis. We offer courses, workshops and support groups of a preventive nature, for example family stresses and life transi-tions, among others. Assistance and support are also available through short term counselling or referrals, as well as in a crisis situation. The staff of this program has extensive links to other helping professionals within both the military and the local civilian community.Althoughprimarilyintendedforthebenefitofcivilianspousesandchildrenof Regular and Reserve members, anyone associated with the local military community may approach the staff for information and/or consultation.

Bilingual Women’s Services ProgramIn partnership with the Ministry of Community and Social Services of Ontario, we also have a bilingual program that provides support in occurrence of Violence Against Women. The program provides community-based general counselling, support and referral services for abused women and their children who are victims of domestic violence and /or sexual assault, including historic sexual abuse in childhood in order that they may live free of violence. Types of counselling services include: crisis/support counselling (includes safety planning, advocating, providing rights information, referrals, follow-up support, outreach), sexual assault coun-selling, and long-term therapeutic counselling (to assist abused women to gain a more in-depth understanding of women abuse and empowerment and cope with the effects of violence.
