LIGO Will Offer a Public Celebration on Saturday March 12th, 2016The Discovery Celebration will provide an opportunity for the public to hear details of LIGO’s recently announced historic detection of gravitational waves from a pair of colliding black holes. In addition, LIGO will celebrate the date of Albert Einstein’s birth(March 14) and the 100-year anniversary of Einstein’s general theory of relativity. Other activities on March 12th will include observatory tours, hands-on science exhibits, an Einstein portrait contest, and the opportunity to decorate a commemorative tile that will become a permanent part of LIGO’s grounds. This 284 acre park has 9100 feet of fresh water shoreline, a children’s playground and features the Sacajawea Interpretive Center. Inside you’ll find interactive displays that teach kids about the Lewis and Clark Expedition through the eyes of Sacajawea. Animals you might spot inside of the park include deer, elk, geese, rabbits and squirrels.
