Term one is always a busy term, but this term has been even harder on the physical, emotional and mental state of all involved in the school community. Starting a new year after what was a crazy, challenging year adds extra stress and pressure on everyone before it has even started. For some of us, the snap lockdown in February would have also raised anxiety levels, bringing back memories of uncertainty from last year. Together though, we have overcome these challenges and the students have returned to an almost normal school life again. Last week I attended a two-day conference in Traralgon with all the DOSCEL Primary School Principals. The two days focused on school improvement and wellbeing and provided direction for schools moving forward. Trinity is an excellent position to ensure a high-quality education is enacted and all students have the opportunity to feel safe, valued and achieve success. This has been made possible as a direct result of the hard working, dedicated and passionate staff working with and for our children every day. I am extremely privileged to be a part of a team that goes above and beyond what is expected to see our students achieve. I am really excited about what the future holds for Trinity and I thank all of the staff for the excellent job they do every day in supporting, nurturing, challenging and inspiring our students. Harmony Day On Monday the staff and students celebrated Harmony Day. This year’s focus was on celebrating our cultural heritage and acknowledging those in our community that kept us going during the pandemic. Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of term one and despite the time going fast, I know thateveryone is tired and ready for the holidays to come. Term one is always a busy term, but this term has been evenharder on the physical, emotional and mental state of all involved in the school community. Last week I attended a two-day conference in Traralgon with all the DOSCEL Primary School Principals. Everyschool received a different amount of funding depending on their socioeconomic status. Trinity is in the process ofemploying some part time teachers that will provide some additional support to students through the use of smallintervention groups during either Term 2 or 3. Recent assessment data will be utilised to determine students who willbenefit from the extra assistance. Some students are already receiving support through the current schoolintervention programs. Parents will receive a letter at the beginning of Term 2 if their child has been identified and willhave the option to opt in or out. If you have any questions regarding the initiative, please contact myself, Mr Sharp orMiss Farrelly.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REFLECTION

Dear Families,Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a singlegrain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their lifein this world will keep it for eternal life. Jn 24-25

This Gospel passage from the weekend is quite challenging, as read literally, you would questionanyone wanting to follow the message of Jesus. But this piece is part of a larger story Jesus istalking to His increasing number of followers, along with the disciples Andrew and Phillip, foreshadowing His death to come.

That is the challenge, there is a deeper truth in the text which is difficult to understand at first glance,so we need some guidance about how we can understand the deeper truth. It is worth doing, as thedeeper truth is still enlightening today as it was 2000 years ago. We sure don’t want anyone to haveto ‘hate’ their life!

On the weekend, the Homily I listened to at mass spoke about Jesus being willing to lose his life fora greater good. The Priest then connected the last year, where many in our community lost it all, wewere faced with such great doom and gloom. For many within our community, life was turned upsidedown and the rebuild is challenging. Reaching out further, many in our rural communities suffered adouble hit, with the bushfires followed by the pandemic.

Yet in the depths of the disaster, we often find something great. For some families, they were able toreconnect. Personally, I caught up with more people in ‘zoom chats’ than I normally do, friendshipswere reconnected. People found comfort in the walk around the lake, or the coffee from the coffeeshop. It became a highlight of the day.

Now, as we move back to normal, I haven’t caught up with those people. I get my coffee, but missthe walk. The Priest asked the question, as we have got everything back, what have we lost? Thetalk has been about how we have learned so many lessons, that we can work from home and beproductive, that we won’t take the little things for granted, we will live at a slower pace. As I drive theMonash each day, I wonder what has changed at all?

This Gospel passage then seemed to fit perfectly with me, and it seemed to suddenly make senseright at this time. In a line from the musical Come From Away, “Tonight, we honour what was lost, butcommemorate what we found”.

So 2000 years on, as we prepare to honour Jesus dying so that we may live, and we prepare tocommemorate his resurrection, how will we make sure that we take the lessons learned into ourrebirth out of COVID-19?
