For PreparationFor PreparationFor PreparationFor Preparation Last week we examined our first core value: Not for ourselves ministry. In doing so we saw that it was important for believers to "think different" about many of the things in their lives. Today we move to our second core value: Multi-Generational Ministry. We find a biblical motivation for this discussion in Psalm 100:5.

5 For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

The thesis of this verse is that part of God's goodness to us is His commitment to minister His steadfast love across the generations. If this is God's purpose, how can it be any less the purpose of the church? Now there are some in Christian circles that have recently been arguing for some-thing called the homogenous unit principle in regards to church planting and growth. The HUP argues that it is better to focus on one particular sub-group (i.e. age: 20-30 somethings, ethnic type: African-Americans, socio-economic type: hyper educated college community) in growing a church over and against a broad ministry focus. The HUP argument is grounded essentially in a business principle that states that narrowing one's market target means a product can be more easily tai-lored to that market's needs and desires and therefore more easily sold. This may make great business sense, but our view is that the church is something far different than a mere product. As we examine this issue from a biblical perspective today, we hope to demon-strate that although it’s more difficult to build and sustain a multi-generational minis-try approach, it is far more consistent with the biblical idea of the church and far more rewarding for all the generations in the long run.

Join Pastor Polski and a collection of other teachers for this discussion oriented class. “The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God in the Writings of John” Dr. Rob Fossett (room A101) This 8 week class is on the doctrine of the love of God and how difficult it really is when we dig into what John has to say about it. We will explore various texts of the Bible, but will look primarily as the Gospel of John and his letters.
