When you’re in the line of work I’m in, you hear all kinds of stories. Through the course of a week, one person after another talks to me about challenges they are facing. It is always my joy and honor to talk to them and do my best

to assist in their situation.

More often than not people talk to me about what they have been pursuing. The very thing they have been pursuing, whether it’s

Money or Party or Mayhem, is the very thing that has brought them low. I hear them say, “If I just had MORE of this or MORE of that or MORE of whatever.” And the list is endless. But the question remains ... “What are they really looking for?”

One day two blind men called out to JESUS, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” (MATT. 9:27-31). JESUS healed them, but what were they in need of? They needed MORE JESUS! They had most likely been to the primitive eye doctors of their day and had tried every eye salve or potion known at that time, but they found out that they didn’t need more human solutions. NO! They needed “MORE JESUS.”

The Bible tells us that as Jesus got off the boat in the land of the Gerasenes (MARK 5:6-8), a man who was filled with demons came out and asked Jesus not to torture him. Instead Jesus delivered him from his misery! He’d had enough trouble. When Jesus asked him his name, the devil spoke through the

man’s lips and said “Legion, for we are many!” In military terms, a “Legion” of soldiers is anywhere from 3-6,000 foot soldiers! However

many demons were in that man, he’d had enough! He needed “MORE JESUS!”

The story of the woman with the “Issue Of Blood” (LUKE 8:40-48) is the story of a woman who Scripture says had “Suffered many things at the

hands of Doctors.” Here was another person who when she said, “If I can but touch the hem of his garment,” was saying, “I need MORE

JESUS!!”

So back to my original point. Just like with the stories from the Gospels that I have shared with you, the people I meet with each week need...

“MORE JESUS!” Pastor Robyn has taught so many times about making new space. The point she always makes is that when you make space,

the space fills up again. Could it be that if we’re not careful we will fill our life to the brim with needless stuff? And the more stuff we fill our heart

with the more challenges come our way!

Perhaps today it’s time for you to clean the closet out! The closet of your heart. Get rid of some stuff! And when you do, don’t refill it with more

stuff that’s just new stuff! NO! Fill the space in your heart and life with “MORE JESUS!”

Here at Trinity Church, we are in a season of emphasizing the theme of “MORE JESUS!” I’m sure that some of you are saying, “Pastor Rich, here

at Trinity we always emphasize MORE JESUS!” Exactly. “MORE JESUS” is our permanent season, right here at Trinity Miami. With God’s help it won’t

change on OUR watch!

Rich & Robyn Wilkerson are the Senior Pastors of Trinity Church in Miami, FL and founders of Peacemakers ministries. They have been married a really long time and have 4 children and 2 grandchildren... so far.

There’s a movement shaking up downtown Miami – a movement that breathes hope into one of the most overlooked cracks of Miami life. A team of forty or so millennials goes down in the midst of the broken and forgotten to give them a message of love. I got a chance to sit down and speak with the man behind this operation, Nelson Ruiz.

CHELSEA GASPARD: Tell me about M28 and Burgers & Blankets.

NELSON RUIZ: M28 is an everyday thing for every believer to do. Based on Matthew 28 where a risen Jesus shows himself to his disciples and tells them to go out into the world – our goal is to promote God’s love. M28 isn’t an event, it’s a way of life – a way of sharing the love that God’s given us. Every Wednesday, M28 goes out into the streets of downtown Miami to pass out food and blankets, water and hygiene products. But we’re not just passing out burgers and blankets – we’re passing out Jesus. We’re giving love and acceptance.

CG: How do you breathe life into your ministry, in terms of building a team, picking locations and gathering do-nations?

NR: I was walking down those streets one day and the idea just came out of nowhere – it was God. I couldn’t get it off my mind; I prayed about it but didn’t waste much time. I didn’t fund raise or talk to a bunch of people – I just went for it. I bought some food and went back down there. And now, people are coming out of nowhere to help. Honestly, I didn’t have to go look-ing for people to bring supplies or go with me; it just sort of promoted itself. Last Wednesday we couldn’t fit everyone on the buses – people had to stay back!

CG: There are so many ways one can serve the community, yet you choose to feed the homeless in downtown Miami. What drives you to wake up and serve in this specific corner of God’s kingdom?

NR: I’ve actually found something that I’m good at. All my life I’ve gone without knowing what my purpose was, but when I started to do this con-sistently I saw that I’m good at speaking life into people and being generous. I’m good at listening to people, letting them be heard and making them feel like they matter, regardless of the street that they’re currently sleeping on. Once upon a time, I used to be like that, living a life that had spiraled out of control – so when I’m with these guys, it hits me because I think, yo, I remember when I used to be like that, I remember when I used to rob just to get a plate of food. I remember when I couldn’t get the help I needed.

CG: It’s important to be able to relate to the peo-ple you serve. Does anybody that you’ve met stick out in your mind?

NR: When I first started going down there, I met this guy named Robert, his street name was 3rd. He and I built relationship. He’s not down there any more, though. He’s actually in a rehab cen-ter in Fort Lauderdale now – not for drugs but for people who want to get themselves right. So it’s more like a home. He’d look out for me because I was by myself most of the time. I’d do my thing, I’d pass out the hot dogs and burgers and he’d always be around and we’d talk. One time these

three bad kids jumped me. I was trying to wrestle them off and all of a sudden Robert was there fight-

ing them off. Robert was a big guy who had a lot of street cred. It was like he owned that specific area. When they saw him defending me they were kind of like, “Oh snap, sorry we didn’t know,” and they just cleared it. Robert saved my life that day. Thank God for Robert!

CG: How often did you go down there to see 3rd?

NR: I would go down there three or four times a week. Every time I’d get paid I would buy him box-ers, socks, blankets, and tank tops and would take them to him. I would bring him calling cards so he could call his wife in Jamaica. That’s what he was most concerned about, calling cards and under-wear. He never wanted money. I would try to give him some but he wouldn’t take it. I was so attracted to him, like a Jonathan and David type of thing. Anything he wanted I would give it to him.

CG: It’s so interesting how you got to know him and got so involved with his life. What other tri-umphs has your team seen?

NR: Bringing them here to church. We’ve done that before and they’ve enjoyed the service. A lot of them just want you to hear them out. Man, they’ve got stories for days. We have ex-CEOs down there, ex-drug dealers, ex-football players. They’re down there because they made a bad mistake or things got out of control and they couldn’t find a way out.

CG: How has M28 given you perspective?

NR: I think the big-gest thing for me is that it’s not about me anymore; I come sec-ond – people come first. God loved me before I could love Him or love others. My money is not even mine anymore. If anything comes my way, it goes to Burgers & Blankets.

CG: That’s beautiful. No going back now, is there? Why do you think people should serve in M28 and Burgers & Blankets?

NR: Well, I think one of the reasons I think people

should serve is because of what happened to me when I started doing it. I didn’t know what my purpose was yet or why I was here. If you’re having identity problems – come out and serve. Why? Because when you get down there you see a different side of life. It motivates me to be more com-passionate and loving when I come across people who feel like they have no chance, because I know that they still do and I have a chance to make a difference. It’s like a reality check. I don’t even have to tell you that, the streets speak for themselves; if you go down there, they’ll tell you that.

So, I was sold... and the following Wednesday I met up with M28 to take on the streets with Burgers & Blankets, to clothe the night with Jesus’ light. I was charged with excitement and honestly, some anxiety. Once we took our exit I immediately recognized where we were. We had just been down here last weekend for Girlfriends Conference. At that time it had been bustling with the excitement of conference and the busyness of daytime. But this night the streets were almost barren with only the dimly lit streetlights and wandering souls. It’s eerily quiet, despite the fact that there were homeless people walking around and lying on their makeshift beds.

The M28 team is at ease and in no way shy about going up to everyone to greet and bless them. At first I stayed in the back, observing, a little nervous and feeling inadequate. Nelson literally buzzes with focused energy, greet-ing people warmly. We’re walking down one street handing

out food when we spotted a man standing alone be-tween two well-lit buildings. Nelson waves over to him

and shouts from across the street, “My man, you want food?” The man, apprehensive at first, nods and heads over eagerly. Every now and then one of the M28-ers shouts, “Fourth Quarter!”

It broke my heart to see how diverse the people down there are; brokenness does not discriminate. The uneasi-ness and preconceived perceptions I had about home-less people disappeared as we continued to stop and greet each person. All of these people have stories and they each have a hope – the same hope you and I have – the same Jesus.

As I pulled myself away to finally leave, Nelson again shouts out, “Fourth quarter!” I turned to him asking, “I keep hearing that tonight. What’s fourth quarter?” Nel-son laughs and gives a knowing smile, “Fourth Quarter – that’s when you perform your best… Fourth Quarter is when you gotta go hard even if it’s raining, even when it’s tough, even when you’re sick and hurting – I’m sick right now and I’m still going hard for Fourth Quarter. This is Fourth Quarter! When no one else wants to do it, that’s Fourth Quarter!”

What started out as one person, and then a couple of friends, wanting to reach those outside the church is turning into a revolution for the hurt, lost and broken. As Nelson said, M28 isn’t a program – it’s a way of life… a way of caring for others and sharing God’s love with the loveless – it’s for everyone. I’m sold. I’m changed for-ever. My experience on the streets of downtown Miami has altered my entire perspective. I accept the charge of M28 – to share the love, to charge into Fourth Quarter, to change the score – for ourselves and for all those around us.

P r a y e r is essen-tial for getting through any bur-densome time in our lives. Daily bible reading & prayer is how God reminds us of the finished power of His grace. And we need remind-ing because we forget every day. Prayer is powerful – it is the dialogue between you and God. Take a moment out of your busy day and pray – begin your day with a God-conversation. God will speak to you. He’ll respond either through His Holy Spirit, His word, a sign, an affirmation/confirmation from others, or with the inner peace to survive the storm. Every week, we take an hour out of our day to pray as a church fami-ly. iPray meetings are on Wednesdays at noon at the Miami Gardens Campus and Thurs-days at 7:30pm at our North Miami Campus.

Do you ever feel hopeless– like whatever can go wrong, will go wrong? Various pains and troubles can

cause us to lose sight of when one storm ends and another begins. Years of failure and self-doubt cause many to be too afraid to even approach God and ask for help, not truly understanding that the way to move forward (through the storm) is to relinquish that pain to God. You can easily become accustomed to brokenness, lack and defeat – thinking that misery is the cost of living.

But God beseeches us to give him our worries and to cast our cares upon Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” He loves us so much that He cares about even the minor details of our lives. He is our Problem-Solver. He wants us to be free of our worries and filled with His peace (PHIL 4:6-7). A heart that’s been broken and a mind that is confused can only find peace and reconciliation (another word, maybe?) in God. Our peace

doesn’t rely on our strength! It is through His strength and power that we find relief – even when we’re at our weakest. He removes the chains of our past and heals the guilt our hearts hold on to. All the heavy burdens

we’re failing to bear are simple matters in the mighty hands of God.

Each storm of adversity that we face is an opportunity for God to renew, transform and strengthen our faith in Him. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ashes; he seats

them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor (1 SAMUEL 2:8). God lifts us up out of the ashes… rescuing us

from the burnt-up ashes of our messed up lives, the ashes of past mistakes and failures, the ashes of unbelief… Pulled of these ashes we are renewed. This is where you en-

counter true salvation – a redemption worth dying for, and the hope worth living for. This is your testimony.

True freedom is coming to God as a child, giving over all the things that are weighing you down, and knowing that He has already worked them out for your best through

the favor you have through Christ. God wants you to be care-free. He wants to take all of your anxieties, worries, fear, brokenness, lack, and defeat – lifting you out of

the ashes of circumstance.

But how do you get this life of peace and freedom? It’s yours through rela-tionship. Just like you would with a friend, God wants to have a relation-ship with you through conversation and time focused on Him. Seek God in prayer – simply talk to Him – trust that he’s got your back and know

that your best days are ahead. Storms will continue to come and go… but because you know the Problem-Solver (and that He’s for you!),

you can find peace in the decision to rely on God. Whatever your current storm situation is – rest in God, knowing that this trouble is simply preparing the way for future triumphs. There is peace and

freedom in that!

Thunderous. Robust. Warm & demanding. A comedic flare wrapped in sincerity, truth and love. This is how to describe the sounds of John Gray. If you happened to be passing by the Gusman Theater for Saturday night’s session of the Girlfriends Conference you would have heard hundreds of women shouting the word “CYCLE.” John was speaking his way around the podium – challenging everyone to break the repetition of addictions, bad relationships, past regrets and sorrow. As he was talking he was slowly circling the podium… eventually we all caught on to what he was dem-onstrating as he cued us to shout “CYCLE” as he passed with each new illustration of an ever-devolving cycle. Some were shouting with laughter, some with tears trickling down their cheeks, and still others in a somber whisper. In that moment I realized that every woman in that room had a story… they all had moments in their life that had caused pain, heartbreak, and shame. And they all yearned desperately for the freedom of the broken cycle. Like many, John and Aventer Gray have had their share of struggles. . John was raised in a single-parent home and Aventer had known the pain of a failed relationship from a prior engagement. Together they’ve gone through cancer scares with John’s mother, with Aventer herself, and the hospitalization of their first-born son. They know struggle. But they also know the ever-present power of Jesus to get them through any circum-stance. They’ve gotten the revelation that God can break the cycle of any disappoint-ment that life throws their way. As we were shouting “CYCLE” (to be sure, our newly embraced spiritual war cry!), I happened to look at John’s beautiful wife and there I saw a look in her eye… She gets it – she knows what it’s like to be on both ends of a broken cycle… I’m in the midst of a cycle and often feel I can’t see a way out – but in her, I see someone that has experience conquering her cycles. How did she get this revelation? Because I was still left wondering, once you break that cycle – once you leave that relationship, that addiction, that thing you just can’t

escape – how do you stay free? How do you keep your-self from slipping back into the same familiar cycles? During women’s conference I had the opportunity to sit down with the Grays for a candid discussion where I got the chance to ask these questions and I discovered the following four steps to remaining free from your cycle. -------------------------- You must healIn order to heal we must acknowledge that the pain has occurred. We simply can’t fix what we don’t acknowl-edge. We live in a society that says: move on and let go. The Bible, however, speaks a great deal about Jesus healing the sick… Jesus didn’t only heal them of their physical ailments but he made them whole on the inside. As believers we have the ability to tap into this same power! Speaking from her own expe-rience Aventer guides: “You have to pray and ask God to heal your heart – to heal your broken places, so you’re not walking into a new situa-tion with fragments of a bro-ken past. It takes practice. It’s a learned behavior.” It is important to practice walking in forgiveness and acceptance of yourself and others. Once we acknowledge that the pain was real and no longer blame ourselves, or others, we can grow from it as we trust in God’s healing power. -------------------------- Love YourselfSometimes situations come into our lives that can break our spirits. Maybe a sickness has you doubting that healing is possible or maybe you’re getting out of a relationship that has you feeling rejected. The important thing is that these situations don’t define us. God defines who we are and he says we are LOVED. Aventer says, “We are all beautiful in our own way – the Bible says we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God for His purpose.” John adds, “Get rid of the self-loathing. If you can’t love yourself, you won’t be able to receive love from another person because you won’t find a rea-son for them to love you. In fact, you will look at the love

of others suspiciously because you won’t see yourself valued enough. The most profound truth is the impor-tance of loving yourself and taking care of you.” God created everyone for a specific purpose out of love. He loves us unconditionally and wholeheartedly. We are loved and created to be loved! --------------------- Surround YourselfYou have to surround yourself with people who will up-lift you. Moses had Aaron, David had Jonathan, and Jesus had the 12 Disciples. These are a few biblical ex-amples that model how important it is to have some-one to do life with. We all need someone who can and

will pick us up when we fall or to strengthen us when we are weak. John explains further saying, “You have to surround yourself with people that will tell you the truth, who aren’t afraid to get into your business. Every-one has a blind spot. Find some-one who will look into your blind spot, keep you covered and tell you the truth. Learn the principles of Accessibility, Avail-ability, and Accountability – let your friends have access to your business. Be available to the prompting of The Holy Spirit, and stay accountable to those around you.” We have a friend in Jesus, yet we are also called to create bonds with others and keep each other accountable.

------------------------- Get More JesusAs cliché as it sounds, it’s still true. We all have times in our lives when we struggle with loneliness, depression, or even sheer boredom. If we don’t keep our eyes on Je-sus in these moments we can easily revert to what we’re used to (that old cycle). The Gray’s both spoke about the importance of spending time with Jesus especially when facing a challenge. If we’re focused on our prob-lem and not on Jesus we become tempted to grumble against God for the direction He’s taking us. John re-calls the children of Israel – tired of eating manna, they began to grumble and reminisce about the good ole’ days in Egypt. Missing the leeks and onions, they con-

veniently for-got about the 430 years of death, mur-der, mayhem, and slavery when con-fronted with their own ap-petites. John summarizes saying, “Just because you

have a challenge in your freedom, don’t go back to what once held you captive. You need the same grace from God that saved you, to maintain you. We all have a vacuum in our hearts that only God can fill.”

Before my time with John and Aventer I wasn’t sure how

I would get to the other side of my own personal cycle. The revelation that I had seen in the eyes of Aventer Gray that previous day was that God is faithful. Not only will he get me through the cycle but he’s already prepared an even greater blessing on the other side of this struggle that my mind and heart have not compre-hended yet. I, too, now have the revelation that I can stand in the freedom of God and stay in His gracious freedom. By healing, loving our inner and outer selves, getting connected with others, and staying in relation-ship with God we can live the fulfilling, abundant and free life that God has prepared for us! And though the journey won’t be easy, we can each look forward in faith to what God has in store for us on the other side of each struggle.

It all started with a headache. As time went on the headache grew worse followed by blurred vision. I tried to brush it off as nothing. Maybe I just needed to change my glasses, or some-thing? But deep down I knew something was wrong. I finally went to the doctor – what he told me changed my whole life. I had a brain tumor. How’s this possible? I’m only in my twen-ties. What about all my hopes, dreams, and aspirations?

It felt unreal. I didn’t really know how to feel – my emotions were all over the place. I was frightened and yet there were times I couldn’t stop laughing. Within the month I was in and out of the hospital with nausea and significant weight lost. I prayed and I fasted holding onto the faith that nothing is impossible with God. I kept declaring, “I am healed.” But to be honest, there were times I was afraid. I cried a lot. The thought of

dying was in my thoughts – but I trusted more that God wasn’t done with me. My faith was growing. I knew deep down that everything was going to get better. And it did !!! A few months later at a routine checkup my doctor came in astonished. He told me that the brain tumor was gone!

God revealed himself to me in a glorious way! I learned that you never really know the healing power of Jesus until you are in need of a healer. God healed me and gave me MORE life. I’m grateful that what the doctors couldn’t do for me – what I couldn’t even do for myself – God did. I am grateful beyond words and will always know and share this healing grace !

Daelle has been coming to Trinity since 2009. She serves in green room and on wor-ship team. They found her tumor in 2012 and she was healed from it in the same year.

Connect groups are designed to make a big church feel like a small church. Our desire for everyone who calls Trinity Church home is to get involved in one of our fun, spiritually filling Connect Groups. These groups are the breakdown mechanism for our large assignment called the church. They allow everyone to grow in a small setting through relationships while being part of a large body. BABY DEDICATION: We believe that children are a gift from God. Offered every 2nd Sunday of the month, baby dedication is a public declaration made before God, the church, and family, to spiritually lead and nurture your child to love God and people. COMMUNION: Every 1st Sunday of the month we take part in the act of Holy Communion as a church family. Com-munion is the remembrance of the gravity of Jesus’ sacrifice made on the cross; we “proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26).

CREATIVE NIGHT: A gathering for the Creative Community of Trinity. What-ever your passion – Trinity Creative has a place for you to use & develop your gifting! Music, dance, produc-tion, graphic design, spoken word, rap, art direction, stage design and much more! You’re invited every Wednesday at 7pm.

DNA: This is our monthly service for all Servant Leadership outlets: Connect, Grow and Serve. Maximize your unique gifts, skills, and talents by being a part of Trinity Church’s Servant Leadership. We encourage you to come to DNA and join a team.

FOOD PANTRY: Open Wednes-days 1pm–5pm (NoMi).

iGROW: These discipleship classes are designed to help believers grow in their relationship with God. Whether you are a new believer or have been following Christ for many years there is a class that will chal-lenge you to take your journey to the next level. These 7-week classes are offered 4 times a week. Sign up by stopping by the Next Steps booth.

iPRAY: A weekly gathering devoted to prayer and worship. Wednesdays at 12pm (MGC) and Thursdays at 7:30pm (NoMi).

KIDZONE: We offer kids services for preschool and elementary age children during all of our regular weekend and mid-week services. KidZone combines high-energy activities, Bible-based teaching, interesting pup-pet characters, and fun-filled songs to capture kids’ attentions while also showing them that living for Jesus is the best thing!

PARENTING COURSES: Our new se-mester of parenting classes starts January 15th. This 12-week course is taught by a licensed social worker to help parents learn the values of com-munication and different parenting strategies. There are also classes for the children at the same time that teaches coping, communication, and improved behaviors.

PEACEMAKERS FAMILY CENTER (PFC) OFFICE: Open Sundays 9:30–3pm and 5:30-7pm. PFC staff are also available by appointment through-out the week.

PRE-SERVICE PRAYER: We have prayer at MGC at 9:30 & 5:30 on The Dock and at NoMi at 10. Every-one is welcome to join us in this time of spiritual preparation.

6:55 LEADERS MEETING: Tuesday nights at 6:55pm we hold an open-ended leadership meeting for any-one wanting to get involved with our Rendezvous service. This 15 minute is comprised of prayer and leader-ship teaching. Meet us on the The Dock this Tuesday night if you’re interested.

SABBATH PRAYER: A weekly gather-ing devoted to prayer and worship on the Sabbath every Saturdays at 8am.

UNITED NIGHT: Vous Youth is the High School ministry of Trinity Church. Connect groups meet every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 3pm, weekly in local high schools, and every first Thurs-day for our United Nights! For more information visit: VousYouth.com.
