Since its inception in 1954, Trinity Episcopal School has been a major outreach of its founding Church. Formally organized in 1869, Trinity Episcopal Church stands on the shoulders of Episcopalians who shared the gospel in a Victoria house church beginning in 1848. By the early 1950s, the congregation had outgrown its buildings first constructed in 1885, and the present site was purchased. Today, Trinity is blessed with a beautiful and spacious campus situated on two adjacent city blocks, which houses both the Church and the School. A new master plan has recently been completed for the expansion of this complex of buildings. Trinity Episcopal School believes that learning takes place beyond the four walls of a classroom. Thus, enrichment field trips, better known as the Outdoor Education Program, are an integral part of the curriculum, and participation is required for all students in Grades 4-8. Students learn about the world around them by visiting educational sites throughout the area to enhance classroom learning. Experts are also invited to the School to talk to students.

Small class sizes open avenues through which students can receive one- on-one a6en7on and personal guidance in subjects or assignments they may not understand or fully grasp. Individual atten7on to students is a priority. Children in kindergarten through third grade are assessed three 7mes a year using the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessment tool. foundation, which later transfers over to instrumental performance. Starting with three-year-olds, children are trained to sing in head voice, and vocal warm-ups and rhythm drills are part of the daily routine. All students perform on Orff percussion instruments. Fourth- and fifth-grade students learn to play the flutophone and are able to read music based on their previous training in solfege. By Middle School, students have units of study on

Trinity Episcopal School is well aware of current research that asserts the physical, mental, and social benefits of including rock climbing in a school’s curriculum. The School has the only professional climbing wall (on the level of colleges or first-class gyms) available in Victoria. This rock wall, housed in the Middle School, has over 1,000 square feet of climbing surface designed to teach agility, balance and coordinaFon as well as build confidence and develop problem-solving skills, trust and teamwork.

builds its educational philosophy. In order to grow as children of God, all students and teachers participate in daily chapel services. On Tuesday of each week, chapel is held in classrooms, allowing students to participate in Sacred Study, a more in-depth, grade-appropriate unfolding of the week's scripture. Eucharist is celebrated in the Church the first Wednesday of the month. At some point in the year, all students are involved in leading a chapel service in some way—as scripture readers, acolytes, prayer leaders, musicians, or as assistants with technology. Middle school students have the opportunity to help plan chapel services by serving on the Middle School Student Vestry. Chapel buddies are a tradition at Trinity, where older students are paired with the younger students to provide guidance and a set of helping hands during Chapel. Chapel buddies foster a sense of belonging to the larger Trinity family and build connections between students in different grades. Parents are welcome to attend any chapel service.

various instruments including piano, guitar, drums and hand bells. All students have the opportunity to sing or play instruments for chapel services and often compose or arrange hymns. It is the goal of the music department to give students the tools and experience necessary to enrich their adult lives with music. Trinity’s art program is designed to inspire students to explore and experience a wide variety of techniques using several different mediums. Students are introduced to the elements and principles of design. They are encouraged to become familiar with several master artists and their timelines, referencing major periods and styles. The art program has five major goals: 1) to develop self-worth through self-creation; 2) to develop knowledge of the elements of design; 3) to develop an appreciation of art; 4) to gain knowledge of art history; and 5) to develop knowledge of art techniques and medium.

Student Life: Activities. Trinity Episcopal School offers students an array of opportunities

through which students can participate, volunteer, and learn, whether in the School itself or within the wider community. Beginning in fourth grade, students are encouraged to represent Trinity Episcopal School in competitive sports. In fact, 94 percent of age-eligible students participate in at least one sport. These sports include: football, soccer, basketball, track and field, volleyball, and cheerleading. Currently, the School participates in the Diocese of Victoria Athletic League (DVAL). Trinity Episcopal School believes it is important to instill the value of community by asking each student to do his or her part in serving that community. One main way this is accomplished is through various community service projects undertaken each year by individual classes and the entire school. In some cases, these projects benefit the wider community. For example, the second grade recently collected items for the Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center, and the sixth grade provided landscaping for a local Habitat for Humanity. One school-wide project raised more than $10,000 for Jump Rope for Heart—more than any other school in The Crossroads area. Trinity has also formed a partnership with St. James Episcopal School in Los Angeles, CA, to provide monetary and spiritual support for its sister school in Haiti.

Other school ac+vi+es offered during the school year include the a4er-school art program, Spanish Club, Student Council, and Na+onal Junior Honor Society. Each year, Summer Camp offers four weeklong sessions to students who wish to have addi+onal academic instruc+on or enrichment. Classes are offered for children across all grade levels and include such topics as expressive wri+ng, scrapbooking, art, and a myriad of scien+fic subjects. Extended School Care is available before and a4er school through the P.A.L.S program.

Facilities & Growth.

The Early Learning Center (ELC) provides the perfect environment for students as they leave home and venture into the new, structured world of school. The ELC has separate areas for K3 and K4 classes with rooms that are bright, cheerful, and developmentally appropriate with their “kid-sized” furnishings and fixtures. A playground is adjacent to the building.

The Lower School campus consists of the original Trinity Episcopal School building, a temporary portable building, and the Fine Arts building. K5-Grade 3 classrooms are located in the main building along with the computer lab,

library, parish hall, and chapel. A few administrative offices are also located in this building, including the Head of School Office. The temporary building houses two Spanish classrooms as well as classrooms for Grade 4 and Grade 5. The Middle School building houses core curriculum classrooms, a science lab, competition gymnasium, lockers, and offices for the Assistant Head of School and Development Director. Students have access to the gym for physical education classes during the day. Volleyball and basketball games are held in the gym after school. The School’s amazing, 1,000 square- foot Rock Wall proudly hangs in this space.

The goal of Trinity Episcopal School is to introduce its students to innovative,

creative, and proven teaching methods while realizing there is an intellectually

curious learner within every child.

Trinity Episcopal School consists of three campuses: Early Learning Center (K3-K4), Lower School (K5-Grade 5), and Middle School (Grades 6-8). These individual buildings allow students to remain in developmentally appropriate surroundings for the majority of their day. A video monitoring system at all outside doorways ensures enhanced safety. To create a campus that encourages spiritual growth and academic excellence, a new master plan has recently been completed for the expansion of the Church and School.
