• The Processional Carol of Praise and Adoration The First Noel the first nowell

ALL: The first Noel, the angel did say, was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;

In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, on a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel.

Women: They looked up and saw a star shining in the east, beyond them far,

Men: And to the earth it gave great light, and so it continued both day and night.

Choir Only: Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel.

ALL: Then let us all with one accord sing praises to our heavenly Lord,

That hath made heav’n and earth of naught, and with His blood mankind hath bought.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel.

• The Prayer of Adoration and Invocation

• The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever. AMEN.

The Anthem O Holy Night Adolph Adam; arr. Arron Powell

Chancel Choir

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining, it is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till He appeared, and the soul felt its worth.A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices! O night divine! O night when Christ was born.O night divine! O night, O night divine.

Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is Love and His Gospel is Peace.

Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother, and in His name, all oppression shall cease.Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, let all within us praise His Holy name.Christ is the Lord; O praise His name forever. His power and glory evermore proclaim.

The Invitation to and Fencing of the Table

The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper at Trinity Presbyterian Church is for all those who have received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, do now repent, endeavor to live a holy life, and have publicly professed their faith through membership in an evangelical church. Children who have not publicly confessed Christ by being received by the Session into communicant church membership should refrain from the Sacrament and learn by reverent observation; this even though they may already have received Christ privately. Those without personal saving faith in Jesus Christ are to refrain from the Sacrament and are implored now to receive Him by faith and repentance.

• The Hymn No. 193 Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence picardy (Arranged for Trinity Presbyterian Church by Aaron Powell, 2018)

Let all mortal flesh keep silence, and with fear and trembling stand; ponder nothing earthly-minded, for with blessing in His hand

Christ our God to earth descendeth, our full homage to demand.

King of kings, yet born of Mary, as of old on earth He stood; Lord of lords, in human vesture, in the body and the blood.

He will give to all the faithful His own self for heav’nly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven spreads its vanguard on the way,as the Light of Light descendeth from the realms of endless day, that the pow’rs of hell may vanish, as the darkness clears away.

At His feet the six-winged seraph; cherubim, with sleepless eye, veil their faces to the presence, as with ceaseless voice they cry:

“Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, Lord Most High!”

• The Confessing of Our Faith The Apostles’ Creed

Minister: What do you believe about God the Father? People: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. Minister: What do you believe about God the Son? People: I believe in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost; born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven; and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. Minister: What do you believe about God the Spirit? People: I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Minister: May the peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

The Serving of the Supper The Organ Interlude and Passing of the Light

In Him (Jesus) was life, and the light was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it … the true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world … to all who received Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:4-5, 9, 12-13).

The Closing Prayer (in unison) Luke 2:29-32

Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your Word; for my eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel. Amen.

The Benediction

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace … the peace of God, which passes all understanding … and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be upon and remain with you until the day breaks and the shadows flee away. Please extinguish candles.

The Postlude Flourish on Joy to the World arr. Robert Hobby

Your offering may be given to one of the ushers standing at the doors as you exit.

The Christmas Eve offering provides monthly supplemental, temporary, or one-time assistance to our retired and disabled pastors, missionaries, pastors without call, church lay workers, and their widows and dependent children who have low incomes. The Christmas Eve offering this year is given to help Maribeth Hartman, widow of our beloved former Assistant Minister, The Reverend L. Stanley Hartman, who went to be His Lord and Savior on September 4, 2018.

Trinity Presbyterian Church expresses gratitude to tonight’s guest musicians. Thank you for helping to enhance the worship of our Savior.
