Biography

The trio

The Avanesyan Trio was established in 2010, and unites the brothers Hrachya and Sevak Avanesyan

with Julien Libeer, whose individual careers have led them to such venues as the Wigmore Hall in

London, the Casa da Musica in Lisbon or the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.

From its foundation in 2010, the trio has studied with the members of the Artemis String Quartet at

the Queen Elisabeth College of Music in Brussels, and has received regular advice from Augustin

Dumay.

The Avanesyan Trio sets as an objective not only to explore the great standards of the repertoire, but

also to allow its public to discover less known works, with a particular affinity for Armenian 20th

-

century chamber music.

Already in their first concert season, the Avanesyan Trio performed at such venues as the Palais des

Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Festival de Radio France Montpellier and the Menton Festival in France, to

great critical acclaim. They have further toured in Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany,

France, Spain…

Following their Antwerp debut, the association of Belgian music critics awarded them the “Golden

Label” prize.

The musicians – a brief introduction

Hrachya Avanesyan, violin (°1986 – Yerevan, Armenia)

Hrachya Avanesyan is considered as one of the most inspiring artists of

his generation. After winning first prizes at the Yehudi Menuhin

Competition and the Carl Nielsen Competition, he has made acclaimed

debuts in venues like the Wigmore hall in London, Salle Gaveau in Paris

and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. During 2010 – 2011, he has

toured extensively through Scandinavia with pianist Marianna

Shirinyan, this season brings his debut with the Tokyo Symphony

Orchestra as well as a tour in Japan.

Hrachya Avanesyan plays on the violin of Antonio Stradivarius "Piatti"

from 1717.

Julien Libeer, piano (°1987 – Brussels, Belgium)

Hailed as one of Europe’s most remarkable musical personalities, Julien

Libeer has been the guest of the Palais des Beaux-Arts (Brussels), King’s

Place Concert Hall (London), and the Théâtre de la Ville (Paris). Last

season brought him to the prestigious Festival de l’Eté Mosan and the

Festival du Vexin, as well as the Amadeus Festival on invitation of

Alexandre Tharaud. In 2008, Julien Libeer is awarded the Juventus prize,

an honor he shares with such artists like Piotr Anderszewski and

Emmanuel Pahud. Two years later, the Belgian musical press declared

him ‘Young musician of the year’.

Sevak Avanesyan, cello (°1989 – Yerevan, Armenia)

After brilliantly finishing his studies with Medea Abrahamyan and

Viviane Spanoghe, Sevak Avanesyan has been taught by such artists as

Janos Starker, Maria Kliegel and Gary Hofmann. Since 2010, he is

studying at the Hans Eisler Hochschule in Berlin, in the class of Claudio

Bohorquez.

Sevak Avanesyan has performed all over the world, either as a soloist or

chamber musician. He was a guest of, among others, the Salle Gaveau

(Paris), the Sidney Opera House (Australia) and the Ford Hall in Toronto.

He plays on a “Matteo Goffriller” cello, lent to him by Mischa Maisky.
