TRIP REPORTThe Gartner Outsourcing & Strategic Partnerships Summit 2013 was held
on September 23 – 25, at the Hilton Orlando in Orlando, FL. This report
summarizes and provides highlights from the event.
OverviewTo keep pace with the speed of emerging technologies and business demand, organizations have to evolve their sourcing strategies as rapidly as possible. But how can you effectively support business and IT demands amid today’s tremendous challenges: economic pressures, business disruptions, technology changes and new IT delivery models? This year’s summit challenged attendees to reimagine sourcing to better align delivery with business needs, embrace new technologies, evolve sourcing partnerships and select optimum providers delivering around the globe. We hope that the event has helped to spark new ideas that will make a difference to attendees, their sourcing strategies and their organizations.

Keynote sessions
Gartner Keynote: The End of Outsourcing As We Know It Linda R. Cohen; Helen Huntley; Ian Marriot; Frank Ridder
This opening keynote presentation examined how sourcing ecosystems are heavily influenced by three macrotrends: globalization, industrialization and consumerization. In addition to these long-term trends, we are witnessing some short-term, current trends termed by Gartner as the Nexus of Forces: the confluence and integration of social, mobile, information and cloud technologies. The key message of this session was that it is time for CIOs and sourcing managers to reimagine sourcing.
First, you need to align:• Supplyanddemand—basedonyourbusinessgrowthinnewmarkets• Anysourcingactionwithbusinessobjectives• Stakeholderexpectationsfortechnologyandsocialcollaboration• Sourcingstrategywithdigitalstrategy
Then, you need to innovate:• Yourglobalstrategy,lookingfornewareastofindthebesttalent• Internalskills/processesthroughahybrid-modelallowingforinternalandexternal
suppliers• Leverageexternalcapabilitiesthatexistalreadytobringinnovationtotheenterprise• YourapproachtoNexusofForcesopportunitiesthatwilltransformyourcompanyto

Guest Keynote: UNthink Erik Wahl
Erik Wahl spoke about how we’ve come to believe that creativity is reserved for the chosenfew—thepoets, thepainters, thewriters.Usinghisownlifeasanexample,Erikspoke about how creativity is in all of us. We simply need to rediscover the keys that will unlock our potential. This concept, which Erik painted live on stage, will remind us all of one of his key messages: sometimes, it’s worth taking a risk!
