Weather:
Mauritius experiences a hot, humid summer from December to April and a cooler, drier period from May to November. However, there is considerable variation from one part of the island to another. Coastal temperatures range between 25°C and 33°C (77-91°F) in summer and between 18°C and 24°C(64-75°F) in winter. On the plateau it will be some 5°C (41°F) cooler. The highlands are also the wettest part of the island - it can rain here at any time of year and even when it's not raining, the area can be cloaked in low cloud. Under the influence of the prevailing southeasterly winds, the east coast is slightly cooler and wetter than the west. When the winds are at their strongest in July and August, it can be blustery on the east coast, though the breeze brings welcome relief in summer. The cyclone season lasts from December to March. Although a direct hit happens rarely, cyclones way out at sea can bring days of squally rain.

Fort Adelaide in Port Louis (aka La Citadelle)
Named after the Queen Adelaide, the fort has been built between 1834 and 1840, under the direction of William IV.
At 240 ft. above sea level, Fort Adelaide, also known as 'La Citadelle' has fulfilled the strategic purpose of guarding the harbour against enemy attacks and fires that broke in the city.
Today, thanks to the efforts by the Municipality to preserve this cultural heritage, it is the only one, out of the four forts built in Port Louis not to end up in ruins. A ride uphill to Fort Adelaide, will guarantee you a breathtaking view of the city of Port Louis, nestled at the foot of the Port Louis / Moka mountain ranges and stretching towards the habour.
From this vintage point, you will find old buildings standing in
juxtaposition to the modern skyscrapers. On your left, is the Champs de Mars, hard to miss for it is the only green patch in the busy city of Port Louis.
As you gaze towards the harbour front, the 4 cylinders of the Bulk Sugar Terminal stands proud, facing Le Caudan Waterfront, with the seawater reflecting the warm colours of the buildings.
Tip: there is no entrance fee. For safety reasons, don't go there alone.

Maiden Cup 2006 - To The Line, winner of the race
The Champ de Mars Racecourse is a race track in Port Louis, Mauritius, for thoroughbred horse races located close to the center of the city, at the Mauritius Turf Club (M.T.C).
The Mauritius Turf Club was founded in 1812, making it the oldest horse-racing club in the Southern Hemisphere, and one of the oldest in the world. [1][2] On 25 June of the same year, the Champ de Mars racecourse was inaugurated and the first organized race meeting in the history of the island was held. The Champ de Mars track follows a very selective right hand oval path and is relatively small in size, with a circumference of 1,298 meters (4,258.5 ft) and width between 12 and 14 meters (39 and 46 feet). The home-straight extends uphill and is 225 meters (738 ft) long.
Thoroughbred racing is the most popular sport on the island and the electrifying ambiance on race days, notably during the Maiden Cup.

The starting point for this hike is Moka Museum. There you will meet the guide and prepare for the hike. At Moka you can also park your car in a safe protected parking area.From the Museum the hiking will start with a 1 hour climb up to the summit of Le Pouce mountain.
Le Pouce – This mountain is the third highest in Mauritius, peaking at 812m, is located in the North West of the island between the Pieter Both and the Signal mountain. Le Pouce is known as ‘The Thumb’ peak. The first person to climb Le Pouce is accredited as Charles Darwin.
From the peak you will have an amazing 360 degree view of Mauritius. The sight of the northern part of the island is splendid, with a beautiful view of the northern small islands of Mauritius - Flat Island, Round Island and Snake Island. You will also get to look down onto the capital and to the west part of the island.
It also offers one of the most beautiful views of the capital: Port Louis, as well as of Moka and the high grounds of Plain Wilhems.
From the summit you will hike down enjoying the great views until getting back to the start point at Moka.
The hike will end with a complementary picnic lunch.
