wide-band communication lines [which provided] the functions of present-day libraries together with anticipated advances in information storage and retrieval and [other] symbiotic functions.“
J.C.R. Licklider
• Initially for Reaserch and Development• Opened for Commercial use in only 1992• Little did he know!

Structured Wiring and Home Networking
• G.hn • Supported by ITU and the Home Grid Forum• G.hn the future universal wired home networking standard
worldwide• “A single, unified technology for multimedia networks over
power lines, coaxial cable, and phone lines has the potential to enable a simple, easy-to-use means of networking devices in the home. We believe ITU’s work is an important step towards eliminating fragmentation in the industry and in achieving the vision of a networked home.”
- Kurt Scherf, Analyst, Parks Associates, Dec 2008

Impact on Home Sales
• Any developer not providing this type of connectivity/service will lag far behind
• Internet access is mandatory for new homes• People need and WANT access to information, social
connections, entertainment, etc• “Developers are realizing that they need to offer their customers
more than just news, weather, and sports“ – Robin MacGillivray, Pacific Bell
• People will chose an Internet ready home over traditional home
If we use the correct hardware there is no need for the End user to change legacy equipment. You can however use both methodsOf communications. Homes can be upgraded using standard devices to be IP Enabled
