Kobe Triplex Pumps are extremely dependable, heavy-duty pumps designed to serve as high pressure sourcesof hydraulic power for many types of hydraulic systems.They are particularly adapted for severe service involv-ing frequent hydraulic shocks in the system, hightemperatures, and a variety of hydraulic fluids. They areplunger type pumps for pressures up to 30,000 psi andfor displacements up to 200 gpm.
There are three basic sizes (Size 2, Size 3 and Size 4)with several modifications available for each. All KobeTriplex Pumps include vertical design, automotive typecrankcase, spring-loaded ball type valves with replace-able seats or disc-type valves, a built-in lubricating oilpump for dual pressure and splash lubrication, anoptional scavenging pump to return plunger leakage tothe system, and built-in reduction gears. Units areavailable with integral motor drive or with external driveshaft for separate coupling drive.
Chrome-plated steel plungers, lap fitted to linerscentrifugally cast of high-grade alloy iron, are availablewith a variety of cylinder blocks to accommodatepressures above 5,000 psi. Packing is available for otherapplications where needed. Plungers and liners areinterchangeable, as assemblies, to meet a wide rangeof pressure and volume requirements. The Kobe Triplexis a complete, self-contained unit and the most com-pact high pressure triplex pump on the market today.

Easily installed and maintainedInstalling a Kobe Pump is a breeze. There are no align-ment problems. No special mounting base is necessary– four hold-down bolts are sufficient. Compactnesssaves valuable floor space. One man can easily servicethe unit and replacements are no problem. The tallspacer block provides large, unobstructed hand-holeopenings. Plungers and liners may be changed quicklyand easily.
Maximum safetyThe Kobe Triplex has no exposed moving parts, nogears, plungers, or tie-rods requiring screens or guardrails. Most units have a built-in relief valve to preventover-pressuring the system.
Integral electric drive is optionalKobe Triplex Pumps are available with an integral motordrive, or with a stub shaft for separate drive. Standardmotors are 230/460 volt, three phase, induction type,operating at 1800 rpm. Variations are available uponrequest.
Horizontal mounting availableThe Kobe Triplex is a vertical design but for specialapplications is available in a horizontal mountedposition.

VALVES – ball type withstainless steel followers andsprings. Hardened andground stainless steel seats,seated in a taper, have insidethreads for easy removal.
INTEGRAL ELECTRICMOTOR – is optional.Motors are 230/460 volt,60 Hz, induction type.
LUBRICATION – built-in lubeoil pump supplies oil underpressure to crossheadguides and connecting rodbushing. Excess oil isdelivered to the reductiongears. Splash lubrication iswithin the crankcase.
INTEGRALREDUCTION GEARS –precision cut andhardened; providedouble reduction.
SCAVENGER PUMP(optional) – disposesof plunger drippagein the spacer blockthrough an externaltube connected tothe scavenger pump.
PLUNGERS AND LINERS –metal to metal, lapped fit –no packing required. Packedplunger and liners are available forfluids being pumped at pressuresbelow 5,000 psi. Liners aresecured in the cylinder block by a4-bolt flange, and are quickly andeasily removed. Plungers are free-floating in the plunger connector.A wide range of pressures andvolumes can be achieved bychanging plunger and liner sizes.
CYLINDER BLOCK – machinedfrom a heavy one-piece steelforging. Standard blocks arerated to 5,000 psi; other blocksfor Size 3 Units to 20,000 psi,and Size 2 Units to 20,000 psi.
SPACER BLOCK –Tall and unobstructed; easyaccess to plungers and liners.Design minimizes heat transferfrom cylinder block to crankcasein high temperature applications.Fluid is completely enclosedwithin the spacer blockpreventing leakage beyondthe pump.
SIZE 2Triplex Pump
The Size 2 Triplex Pump isused throughout steel rollingmills for high pressurebearing lubrication andgeneral hydraulics.
The 5,000 psi cylinder block in the standard Size 2product line accommodates interchangeableplungers and liners of nine different sizes. The20,000 psi block handles six different plunger andliner sizes and is limited to lubricating fluid serviceonly. The 30,000 psi version has three valve
cylinders (rather thanthe forged cylinderblock) and has foursizes of interchange-able plungers andliners. Inlet and outletconnections are at thesame end of thecylinder block.Integral motor typesavailable are drip-proof, TEFC, orexplosion-proof, andare 230/460 volts, 3phase, 60 Hz, 1800RPM. Speed reductiongear ratios availableare 3.986 or 5.204.
The 5,000 psiversion of this unitcan be obtained withmodifications whichmake it capable ofhandling straightwater, high tempera-ture fluids, or otherspecial services.

The Standard Size 3 Triplex has a 5,000 psi cylinderblock which accommodates interchangeableplungers and liners of nine different sizes. The highvolume version has a maximum pressure rating of2,000 psi and six different sizes of plungers and liners.The 5,000 psi version of this unit can be obtainedwith modifications which make it capable of handling
straight water, hightemperature fluids, orother special services.For 10,000 psi duty,a block is availableto accommodatefour sizes ofinterchangeableplungers and liners.The 30,000 psi unithas three sizes ofplunger and linerassemblies.
For separate driveunits, reductiongear ratios of 3.079,
3.579, 4.330, 4.864, 5.941 and 8.815 are optional atno extra cost. The integral drive units are available asdrip-proof, TEFC, or explosion-proof enclosures, andare 1800 RPM, 230/460 volt, 3 phase, 60 hertz.

SIZE 4Triplex Pump
The Size 4 Triplex has a5,000 psi cylinder blockwith eight sizes ofplungers and liners. The10,000 psi version hasthree valve cylinders(rather than the forgedcylinder block) and hasthree sizes of plungersand liners. The 30,000 psiunit, also with threecylinders, has four sizesof plungers.
Size 4 Triplexes areavailable for separatedrive either directlycoupled to theprime mover orbelt driven.
For these units, single reduction gearratios available are 2.607, 3.407, 3.958,4.318 or 4.850.
For integral motor driven units, the motor isflange mounted and may be either drip-proof,totally enclosed, or explosion-proof type. Standardmotors are 1800 RPM, 460 volt, 3 phase, 60 Hz.
Optional Size 4units are available tohandle fluid tempera-tures to 650°F.

FLUID END DESIGNS ...
This basic design is utilized to 10,000 psiin most applications. Valving is springloaded ball-type and seats are taperedinserts. Plunger and liner design is metal-to-metal with a close clearance to providedynamic seal. For fluids near ambienttemperature, an “O” ring is utilized as asecondary seal. Cylinder block typicallyis alloy steel forging.

This design is utilized to 5,000 psi inmost applications. For higher pressures,the design is similar to the 30,000 psiversion. Stainless steel valving is springloaded disc-type and seats are taperedinserts. Plunger and liner assemblies areself-adjusting for packing wear. Plungerand liner assemblies are easily installedand removed so that re-packing may bedone on a bench. Cylinder block isalloy steel for most applications.

This design is utilized for most cryo-genic fluids in pressures to 6,000 psi.For higher pressures, the design issimilar to the 30,000 psi version.Jacketed stainless steel cylinder blockprovides a means of immersing thefluid end in the fluid being pumped.Stainless valving is spring loaded disc-type and seats are tapered inserts. Inthe plunger and liner assembly there area series of sealing elements consistingof Teflon rings with stainless steelcontracting rings.
For higher pressures, the Kobe fluid endconsists of three valve cylinders withexternal inlet and discharge manifolds.Valving is stainless steel, disc-type andin tandem arrangement. All sections ofthe stainless steel valve cylinder subjectto stress are circular and free of inter-secting holes. As with other fluid ends,the plunger and liner assemblies areflange retained and easilyinterchangeable.
In each case, the illustration represents the complete fluid end which is bolted to the spacer block.The button at the bottom of the plunger has a floating connection to the crosshead stem.
