Truman is a university of active and gifted students who challenge each other intellectually and support one another both in and out ofthe classroom. Students can choose from more than 48 undergraduate majors and 45 minors.

• The Student Activities Board (SAB) sponsors numerous events such as comedians, concerts, trivia nights, talent shows, movies, and other fun activities to keep students entertained and engaged.

• The Student Recreation Center is a free gym and fitness center for all students. It provides workout equipment, personal training, and a variety of free fitness classes such as

cardio, hip-hop, fencing, and yoga. The “Rec Center” also offers space and equipment for students to play various sports.

• The Lyceum Series brings premier cultural events to Truman’s campus for the enrichment of the students and the community.

Recent Lyceum events include the Peking Acrobats, Kansas City Ballet, Vienna Boys Choir, and Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

• The Study Abroad program at Truman State is ranked 13th in the United States for the number of students studying abroad. Over 500 Truman students study abroad annually in more than 50 countries.

• Truman’s Varsity Sports Teams compete on the Division II level. There is a wide variety of sports offered at Truman.

As students learn and grow by becoming involved, Truman provides a diverse range of student organizations and activities for professional development, civic engagement, personal expression,

and fun! All students are encouraged to explore their particular areas of interest and find quality extracurricular experiences in which to become involved. Below are just a few of the more than 250

student organizations that Truman offers. If there is not an organization for your particular interest, create your own through the Center for Student Involvement!

• Campus Media: Dobson Radio, Filmmakers Club, Detours Magazine, Windfall Literary Magazine, The Index Newspaper, and more!

• Cultural: International Club, Society for Sino-American Studies, African Students Association, Namaste Nepal, and more!

• Professional/Honor Societies: Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, Nursing Students Association, Students in Free Enterprise, Pre-Law Club, and more!

• Recreational/Sports: Division II Athletics, 50 Intramural Sports Events, Club Sports, or create your own team.

HOUSING 7• Truman offers a variety of affordable and fun on-campus living experiences.

• Students reside in one of seven residence halls or three apartment complexes.

• Support staff of residential assistants and special International Hall Hosts are dedicated to helping international students adjust to college life.

• All beginning freshmen live on campus for their first year, ensuring that students make friends, develop healthy study habits, and get involved on campus.

• Approximately 1/3 of upperclassmen choose to live on campus, enjoying the sense of community and the proximity to classrooms, campus events, and dining options.

• Residence halls offer Truman students a supportive learning community and provide numerous opportunities to make new friends.

• Truman’s modern living facilities include wireless internet, computer labs and workstations, common-use kitchen facilities, social lounges, and cable television access.

• Student cafeterias are located in three of the residence halls and further on-campus dining options include Freshens Smoothie Company, Jazzman’s Cafe, Convenience Stores, and the Mainstreet Market.

• For upperclassmen, transfer students, and graduate students who prefer to live off-campus, there are many good quality and affordable apartments within walking distance of campus.

ADMISSION

Truman is highly selective in its admission criteria, seeking well-rounded and academically qualified students.

Advanced Standing/Transfer Credit• Truman will evaluate all AP, IB, A-Level, 13th year, and college/university coursework for credits

toward a Truman degree. We call this process “Advanced Standing”.• Students completing the International Baccalaureate with a minimum score of 30 will receive a

guaranteed 30 hours of credit (1 academic year in the U.S.) toward a Truman degree.• For A-Levels, subjects in which students earn a C or better are awarded advanced credit toward a

Truman degree.• We consider other types of credit for advanced standing upon the request of the student.

Intensive English Study• In partnership with The Language Company, English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are

offered year-round on the Truman campus. Students at any level of English study may apply to this program. New ESL sessions start monthly.

• ESL students may live in the residence halls and participate in Truman activities and events while improving their English skills.
