This is intended for use as a guide. Mountain West Farm Bureau does not choose or recommend contractors. Your policy does not provide coverage that guarantees or warranties the workmanship of the contractor.

Did you know? Be AwareWe will NEVER send a contractor to look at your property without talking to you first. When large storms hit, there are fly-by-night and disreputable contractors who arrive and start soliciting work. When in doubt, hire a contractor who lives in your area.

The contractor is not your representative and any discussions regarding price, coverage, or other issues will be discussed with you — the policyholder.

Be careful to watch out for suspicious behavior and/or requests:

Our Client Service Promise:We have accessible and responsive local professionals who create and perpetuate grassroots relationships. We first diagnose our clients' needs and then communicate reliable solutions that are securely backed by many for the unfortunate few.

Beware of requests for advance payments up-front.

Beware of high pressure sales tactics.

Beware of pressure to inspect & submit a bid to your insurance company.

When in doubt, always contact the Better Business Bureau.

OBTAIN THE CORRECT PERMITS

Do not pay in cash!

Never pay a contractor in advance or pay more than 10% or $1,000 down.

Get a receipt.

Stick to your schedule of payments.

Never make a payment for repair until you are comfortable with the contract.

Prior to making final payment, inspect the work and make sure it is complete and to your satisfaction.

Get everything in writing: cost, work to be completed, time schedule, guarantees and payment schedule. Do not sign the contract until you understand it and agree to the terms. Never sign a contract that has blanks. If a verbal agreement is made outside of the contract, ask the contractor to place it in the written contract. A signed contract or agreement does not obligate your insurance company to the terms of the contract.
