St. Anthony of Padua Church www.sapparish.org February 28, 2016 Bulletin Bites for the Third Sunday of Lent “But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!” Jesus was asked if the Galileans were sinners because they were slaughtered by Ro- man soldiers as they sacrificed in the temple. Jesus knew people believed a violent or tragic death was a sign of God’s punishment for a sinful life. He mentions the incident of the peo- ple killed by the collapse of the Tower of Siloam and ask if they were greater sinners than others who lived in Jerusalem? Jesus then tells the parable of the landowner who ordered his gardener to cut down a non-producing fig tree. The gardener pleads to give it another chance. Jesus is teaching the people, and us, that the manner of our death is not necessarily an indication of the good or evil we have done in our life, and our failure to be all God creat- ed us to be does not need to be permanent. We can always choose to use all of God’s gifts to us to the best of our ability. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy we should reflect on the God who created us and who does not condemn us, we condemn ourselves. But our Merciful God wants to forgive us, if we ask. “But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!”

Jesus was asked if the Galileans were sinners because they were slaughtered by Ro-

man soldiers as they sacrificed in the temple. Jesus knew people believed a violent or tragic

death was a sign of God’s punishment for a sinful life. He mentions the incident of the peo-

ple killed by the collapse of the Tower of Siloam and ask if they were greater sinners than

others who lived in Jerusalem? Jesus then tells the parable of the landowner who ordered his

gardener to cut down a non-producing fig tree. The gardener pleads to give it another

chance. Jesus is teaching the people, and us, that the manner of our death is not necessarily

an indication of the good or evil we have done in our life, and our failure to be all God creat-

ed us to be does not need to be permanent. We can always choose to use all of God’s gifts to

us to the best of our ability. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy we should reflect on the God who

created us and who does not condemn us, we condemn ourselves. But our Merciful God

wants to forgive us, if we ask.

Third Sunday of Lent ~ III Domingo de Cuaresma

urgencia.

FASTING AND ABSTINENCE

Fasting is to be observed on Good Fr iday by all Catholics 18 to

58. Those who are bound to fast may take only one full meal; two

smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength but

eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.

Abstinence from meat is to be observed by Catholics 14 years

and older on Good Friday and all Fridays of Lent.

LENTEN SACRIFICE:

If you are still trying to think of what to do for Lent,

pull out your calendar and write the name of some people you're not

too fond of on one of the 40 days of Lent. When that day arrives,

offer your prayers and petitions, frustrations, joys,

and sufferings for that person’s intentions.

St. Anthony of Padua now has a parish app

for the Android and iPhone.

We invite you to

download the app today.

To get started, go to www.myparishapp.com

then follow the directions to set-up.
