2009-2010 School Year Activities

Financial Literacy 6th grade exploratory class was implemented in 2nd semester. Feedback from Instructor:

“Overall, I think the class went very well. Our Pre-test score average was 53%. Our Post-test score improved to 92%. We spent about 3 weeks covering themint.org content and about 3 weeks on the Toothpick Bridge simulation (students use arithmetic calculations and geometry to design, plan, and build scale model bridges.  They then learn to write checks, balance accounts, maintain a budget, and work with others to accomplish a common goal). It was an eye opener for students – especially how they now understand their parent’s point of view on money!”

Family & Consumer Sciences – Independent Living class completed a pilot of the EverFi interactive financial literacy curriculum. 14 students participated and all became certified in financial literacy.

All Treynor teachers completed competency and teaching level assessments in November 2009 for financial literacy. The results of this assessment have provided direction to facilitate teacher workshops and training sessions that will ensure successful teaching of financial literacy topics.

Student assessments were administered by Ednalysis in late May. 135 9th – 12th grade students participated and this data will establish our baseline in order to measure success moving forward.
