Mutual Cultural Influence of Colonization and Migration
Tsarevo-a town situated on a small peninsula,70 km south-east of Bourgas, a seaside resort. Population of 6000.Ancient Greek colony and a fishing
settlement. In 1880 a big fire burns down the village, wich springs to life a new in a place close by,
populated primarily by refugees from Eastern
Thrace in 1913.
In 1967. was named climatic seaside resort of national
importance. Tsarevo has three beaches and two exotic
campsite: "Bulgarian" and "Nestinarka.
Known as Michurin before the name-change mania of the early 1990’s,many residents and visitors still prefer to it by the old name. When the town was settled at the end of the 15th century by refugees from other Bulgarian villages, it was known as Vassiliko.
It’s a pleasant, friendly place, especially after the twin nightmares of Primorsko and Kiten. A place is
very beautiful and incredible.
The area was under
Turkish control until
the Balkan War of
1912.After liberation, it
remained poor and
undeveloped.
Malaria was such a problem that the authorities seriously considered relocating the population and destroying the village.
Beach of Tsarevo
Today,
fishing,agriculture,
timber and ship
building provide the
main sources of
income.
The town has a centrally-located hotel-The Chaika. A good spot from which to observe the admittedly limited goings-on is at one of the sidewalk cafes on the pedestrain promenade near the hotel.
The Holy Trinity revival-style church overlooking the sea
houses a small history museum.
From Tsarevo, the main highway heads southwest toward Malko Turnovo and the Turkish border.
Varvara village is near to Tsarevo, where we can see a beauti
beach landscape.
In the past Tsarevo was
known as Vasilikoi
Michurin. The name Vasiliko
town was mentioned as
early as 12 in the Arab
geographer Idrisi . In its
first settlers came from
destroyed by the Turks in
the Bulgarian village
Bosilkovo Aitos share of
East Stara Planina.
