Where do Tsunamis occur the most?

• Most Tsunamis about 80 percent, happen within the Pacific Ocean’s “Ring of Fire”, a geologically active area where tectonic shifts make volcanoes and earthquakes common. Tsunamis may also be caused by underwater landslides or volcanic eruption.

What causes a Tsunami?

• Tsunamis are mostly caused by large earthquakes on the seafloor when slabs of rock move past each other suddenly , causing the overlying water to move. The resulting waves move away from the source of the earthquake event.

How a Tsunami affects people?

• While an immediate effects of a Tsunami is the destruction of the property, Tsunamis also create a health crisis. Not only do Tsunamis appear out buildings and carry many things in their path away, they leave behind an crippled infrastructure that makes an extremely difficult to provide basic servers to the people who survived.

• A Tsunami is a massive wave of water caused by a volcanic eruption or a earthquake. Tsunamis can cause huge destruction when they hit coastlines.

Why is a Tsunami called a Tsunami?

• The word Tsunami comes from the Japanese word meaning ‘’harbor wave. Tsunamis are sometimes incorrectly called Tidal waves – Tsunamis are not caused by the tides (tides are caused by the gravitational force on the moon on the sea). Regular waves are caused by the wind.

Why are Tsunamis so dangerous?

• TSUNAMIS TEND TO BE COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED WHEN THEY COME CRASHING ASHORE. IN MOST CASES THEY ARE CAUSED BY DISTANT EARTHQUAKE ON THE SEAFLOOR.
