andrepresentthephysicalorlogicalreloca4onofITservicesfromonehos4ngloca4ontoanother.Thisreloca4oncouldconsistofnophysicalhardwaremovesatall,oritcouldconsistofeverythingbeingloadedintoatruckanddriventothenewloca4on,oranythinginbetween.Some4mes“reloca4on”isassociatedwithpuremoveswithoutmanychangestothesoZwareandmanagement,while“migra4on”isusedforstrongertransforma4ons,suchastoamanagedcloud.

• Therearemanydifferentusecasestostarttransi4oningintothecloud.Mostcustomerswon’thavethepossibilitytostartfromscratchwithnewworkload,thereforetheyarelookingintoop4onstoanalyzetheirexis4ngworkloadandmigrateitseamlesslyintotheCloud.
• TheHybridITBrokerconsidersthetypeofworkloadandproposesthebestfisngtargetcloud(tradi4onal,privateandpubliccloud)aswellasmigra4onscenario.Thefollowingpictureoutlinesthemostcommoncloudusecasesandtheirmigra4onscenarios.

– IndependentWorkloadViewassumesworkloadwithcommonimagescanbeseparatedi.e.eachworkloadisconsideredonit’sown.Thisresultspoten4allyinsplisngimagesusedbymorethanoneworkload
– CombinedWorkloadViewassumesaworkloadisonlymigratedtothecloudifallitsimagescanbemigrated.Workloadswithcommonimagesareonlymigratedtogether,i.e.ifoneworkloadcannotbemigrated,neithercananyoftheworkloadsthatsharethecommonimagewiththisworkload.
Intheself-servicefashion,outsourcedcustomerswouldliketouseanintegratedportalasmainpointofentryfortheirworkloaddiscoveryandmigra4on.Inasimpleworldthecustomerswouldbegiventheabilitytouploadaflat-filebasedimagefromhisworkload.IndustrystandardwouldbetheOpenVirtualiza4onFormat(OVF),whichsupportsV2VfromdifferenthypervisorsplusalsoP2Vtransforma4ons.TheOVFcontainsthemetadatainforma4onoftheVMplustheactualvirtualdisks.Byanalyzingthemetainforma4on(VMvirtualhardwaresizingplusplatorm)andtheactualcontentintheVDISKtheHybridITBrokerwouldhavetheabilitytomakeajus4fieddecisionwhatthemostsuitabletargetplatorm(Graf,2015).
