Two months into retirement and I am in my fi rst Holiday weekend as I write this. I suddenly realized that a three day weekend is no longer a big deal when you have every day off anyway. Otherwise retirement is going well. I am still transitioning slowly because I am working 2-3 hours a day from home and, on a couple of days, it was necessary to go into my old offi ce to handle larger problems. They have kept my offi ce as it was, except for all the Corvette pictures and posters I had on the walls (which I took home), so it was easy to almost get back into the feel of working full time. It was nice to see all my old friends and get their well wishes. At least they haven’t forgotten me...

I fi nd it funny and sad at the same time that the 2 or 3 Indians that replaced me have yet to make one change to the company software that I didn’t help them with. I have the feeling that management may be starting to worry that their cost savings move may not have been the wisest.

By Charles Whitaker

The regular meeting of the Corvette Club of Texas was held on May 19, 2017 at Friendly Chevrolet. There were 17 members in attendance. Mike Garrison, our Vice President, conducted the business and reported that we received thank you letters for contributions to several more charities where we contributed money. Jim Iuele gave the treasurer’s report and it is in good shape. Paul Wolter reported on the April NCCC Governor’s meeting where the normal business topics were covered. The May autocross was successful with 58 entries on the fi rst day and 48 on the second day. There will be an autocross and drag race at the Governor’s meeting in Oklahoma. A car show is coming up at Texas Motor Speedway soon. There will be a Corvette Invasion in Austin. There will be a NCRS car show. The Westcliff 4th of July parade is also coming up in July. Please check for details of these events elsewhere in the newsletter or from the on-line sites. Mary Wolter reported that here are 48 active club memberships.

May 2017 Corvette Club Meeting

Mike Garrison The Board Members

I caught Mike Garrison looking at a new white Corvette Z06 in the show room before the meeting. I don’t think that Debbie is going to let him buy it though. There were not enough board members present for a quorum so plans were reviewed, but nothing was brought up for a vote.

The Corvetter June 2017

There were fi ve new Corvettes for sale at Friendly Chevrolet arranged in a star pattern and I needed a drone with a camera to show them from above, but they were all very pretty Corvettes. If you are interested in a new Corvette, you should come look at it these and get a good deal from Friendly Chevrolet.

Thanks to Friendly Chevrolet and Mark Eddins for supporting the club, providing a place for us to meet and selling us such great Corvettes. Thanks to Joe Wagner for another great newsletter last month and to Paulette for sponsoring the monthly brunches. Thanks to Paul Wolter for being our NCCC Governor and telling us about the upcoming events and to Mary Wolter for doing so many things including being our Membership person and to all of the other offi cers and members that support the club.

Lastly, but most important, thanks to the Corvette club members that join in our activities. It takes a lot of work from a lot of people to run the club. All of these eff orts are what make our club such a nice organization.

The after meeting dinner was held at Sonny Bryant’s on Inwood Drive near Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas, Texas. Thanks to Debbie & Mike for hosting our club dinner.

The Corvetter June 2017May CCT Brunch BunchThe May brunch was held at Romano’s Macaroni Grill in Lewisville. We had 8 attendees which made it easier to talk among the whole group compared to when we have had bigger groups. We even had a separate room which made things even quieter and more relaxing. Food was good, as usual, and the staff was attentive and helpful.

The Corvetter June 2017Governor’s Report. (Submitted by Paul Wolter)

Cowtown Vettes hosted a meeting on Wednesday evening May 24th to debrief their April 2017 TMS autocross, the upcoming Corvette Scramble occurring on June 3 at Fat Daddy’s in Mansfi eld and the budget for our upcoming joint CTV/CCT on November 18/19, 2017 autocross that is being conducted again this year at the Mineral Wells Heliport (airport). I will include the event fl ier for the November autocross in our October and November Corvetter Newsletters.Cowtown Vettes had hosted 10 low speed autocross events at the Texas Motor Speedway last April. They had 57 racers compete on the infi eld road course on Saturday, and 49 racers on Sunday.

Saturday evening I attended and presented the Treasurer’s Report at Saturday evening’s 2nd Governor’s meeting at the Hampton Inn host hotel located near TMS. The 3rd Governor’s meeting is scheduled to be held in Oklahoma City in conjunction the OCCC autocross. The 2017 convention registration for Bowling Green, Kentucky had reached maximum capacity several months ago causing persons who registered late to be placed on a waiting list. Since the convention is being at the National Corvette Museum there has been an immense interest in attending this year. The 2018 convention that is being coordinated by our Southwest Region in July 14th – 20th in New Orleans, Louisiana is progressing successfully as planned. An initial deposit has been placed with the host hotel.A bid was submitted in April to NCCC by the Rocky Mountain Region to host the 2019 convention on July 7th – 20th in Denver, Colorado. Here are several NCCC events that are coming up soon, plus our joint CCT/CTV autocross: Saturday June 3, is the Corvette Scramble at Fat Daddy’s in Mansfi eld hosted by Cowtown Vettes who is using 3 of CCT’s NCCC 2017 fi rst choice weekend sanctions. Please try and make it to this event by supporting CTV and CCT. We will be eating at Fat Daddy’s, which has delicious food and atmosphere at a reasonable cost.

Saturday and Sunday November 18 & 19 is the CCT/CTV joint autocross in Mineral Wells. CCT’s seven autocrosses will be held on Sunday, November 19th.

Other 2017 NCCC Southwest Region event dates and fliers that are being hosted are provided at: h t tp: / /www.ncccswregion.org/schedule_2017.html

I was unable to attend the Lone Star Annual Corvette Classic that was held at the Texas Motor Speedway last month. I had foot surgery on May 3rd and am having a challenging time getting around on one foot and a manual scooter which I kneel on to support my left leg. My leg is now in a cast, which will be replaced in mid-June with a boot. I am not to put any weight on my left foot until the end of June. Try getting in and out of a bath tub using only one leg and then bathing with your left leg hanging over the side of the tub. Boy, do I ever have cabin fever! I am looking forward to being able to walk normally again and catch up on our projects that have been placed on hold. I am also looking forward to being able to drive our manual transmission Corvettes again.
