The Function of the Tub FeederThis manual is provided to assist you in getting the best results from your Tub Feeder and ensure that you do so safely. If you have any queries about the use of the Tub Feeder contact your dealer before use. Please keep this manual for future reference.

The Fleming range of Tub Feeders are robustly designed and manufactured to cater for small to medium operations.

The Fleming Tub Feeder is a trailed machine which is capable of mixing, transporting and feeding measures of ingredients to make a complete diet for cattle. It could be also used as a processing unit to produce rations for other animals (i.e pigs, sheep or poultry). The Tub feeder has been solely designed for agricultural use, but may in certain circumstances be used to produce mixed rations for other purpose (it must be noted that the standard Fleming Tub Feeder (unladen) has not been designed to travel at speeds over 25km/h).

Currently there are three models within the Fleming Tub Feeder range. The table below specifies the standard equipment which is supplied with the Tub Feeder range.

CARE AND MAINTENANCECheck after the first 10 hours of use

- Weigh bar and chassis bolts are tight- Wheel nuts and bearings are tight

Check monthly

- Conveyor chain tension and adjust if necessary.- All grease points.- PTO shaft condition (refer to its leaflet).- Oil levels in gearbox reservoirs and top up if necessary.

Changing gearbox oil (Planetary Gearbox)

Period - First at 500 working hours.- Thereafter at every 1000 working hours.

1. Drain oil into a suitable container, remove breather plug from oil reservoir to assist oil flow.

2. Refit drain cap. Remove end of hose connected to reservoir (opposite end connects to TOP of planetary box). This hose will act as a breather hose during refilling.

3. Blank the open connection under the reservoir.

4. Refill the gearbox oil via the reservoir. A gearbox requires minimum 15.5 litres of oil.

5. Reconnect hose to reservoir when oil appears out through it and top oil level up to sight glass on reservoir. Please note: It is normal for the planetary gearbox to be filled to this level with oil.

Auger Knife Inspection

1. Switch off the tractor. Disconnect the PTO shaft and ensure no one can move or start up the feeder.

2. Be extremely careful entering the mixing chamber. Auger knives are extremely sharp.

3. Inspect and replace damaged or worn knives. Only use genuine Fleming parts

4. Always wear appropriate safety clothing.5

• ALWAYS disengage the PTO shaft, apply the hand brake, stop the tractor and remove the key before carrying out any maintenance or adjustments to the Tub Feeder. • Before operation inspect the area around you. Keep children away. All visitors and unauthorised persons should be kept well away from work area.

NEVER operate the Tub Feeder with persons standing in the discharge path. There is a danger of serious injury to both livestock and persons within this area. A safe distance must be observed by anyone within the vicinity of the Tub Feeder.

• NEVER attempt to move the Tub Feeder manually.

• To avoid personal injury keep hands and limbs well away from the moving parts.

• Under NO circumstances should anyone, authorised or otherwise attempt to use the Tub Feeder as a means of personal transport. It is designed as a special purpose farm implement and is unsuitable for the transportation of passengers. NEVER allow anyone especially children to travel anywhere between the tractor and an implement.

• Where local laws permit ensure that a flashing amber beacon is mounted on the cab of the tractor and is always used when transporting the Tub Feeder on the road.

• Always ensure that the rear view mirrors on the tractor are adjusted properly and are kept in good order.

• Ensure that road lights are clean and in good working order.

• NEVER DISTRACT PERSONS WHO ARE USING THIS MACHINE

Page 7: Tub Feeder Operating Instructions Maintenance and · Tub Feeder Operating Instructions Telephone: + 44 (028) 7134 2637 ... Type: TF65, TF80 & TF100 to which this certificate applies,

PTO SHAFT LENGTHThe PTO shaft length may be altered to suit individual tractors. During operation when the PTO is at its maximum extended length there must be a minimum overlap of 1/3 PTO shaft length as shown in the minimum PTO overlap diagram. The tub feeder should be hitched to the tractor and be checked in various positions to ensure that the PTO drive line is the correct length. Remember that undulating ground can also affect the length of the PTO shaft.

6

SHORTENING PTO SHAFT If the PTO is too short with a tendency to separate, then it must be replaced with a longer one.If the PTO is too long, it should be shortened using the following method.

• Set the tub feeder at its minimum distance from the tractor. Brake the tractor and switch off the engine.

• Separate the PTO. Attach the female part to the tractor PTO and the male part to the tub feeders pump PTO. Ensure that the fixing pins have “clicked” into position and are engaged.

• Keeping the two halves of the PTO parallel line them up side by side. Fig 1.

• Match mark where the two halves are to be shortened. Fig 1.

• Taking one half of the PTO cut the shield at the mark. Fig 2.

• Using the cut off piece as a guide (fig 3) cut the shaft.

• Proceed in the same way with the other half of the PTO.

• Trim and de-burr the two cut ends of the PTO and clean off all swarf. Fig 4.

• Grease the two profiles and join the two halves of the PTO together.

• Fit the PTO shaft to the tractor and tub feeder and check as before that its length is correct ensuring that minimum overlap advice is observed and that the PTO does not bottom when turning.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE1. Grease should be applied to all grease points at regular intervals during the working season of the machine. ( A suggested interval would be every 7 days).

2. Before maintaining any part under the machine always support the ma chine mixing tub with suitable stands. Only when the machine is stable and safe should maintenance be carried out.

3. Check the tension on the conveyor on a regular basis.

4. Check wheel nuts are tight and grease wheel bearings regularly.

5. Check the hydraulic hose connection on a regular basis during the working season of the machine and replace defective or worn parts with genuine Fleming parts only.

6. When travelling over long distances the scales of the feeder should be reversed so that the front of the digital scales faces the feeder cover to prevent it from being damaged by stone/dirt.

7. Any parts of the weighting system that require replacing should be replaced with genuine Fleming parts only.

8. The feeder should be cleaned down at the end of each feeding season and care should be taken if any form of power washer is used. Avoid high pressure power-washing any part of the weighting system to prevent water ingress causing dampness problems.

9. Warning: Maintaining or adjusting the conveyor must only be made by obeying safety warning.

10. Warning: If the operator is required to enter the feeder ensure that the machine cannot be started unintentionally by obeying safety warning (particularly if cleaning the feeder is required).

11. Check gearbox oil reservoir levels daily, A gearbox oil type similar to ISO vg 220 should be used. (minimum 15.5 litres is required)

12. Warning: When the machine is empty and internal maintenance is required ensure that the rotor of the machine cannot turn. By wedging the rotor in one position it will prevent it from turning and causing injury to the person who is maintaining or cleaning the machine.

13. Checking the following bolts for tightness on the machine at regular intervals during working season is important. The gearbox to floor bolts, the auger to gearbox studs and the knife nolts should be tightened fully prior to using the machine and during the feeding seaon.

GENERAL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONBefore operating the Tub Feeder ensure that you and all operators of the machine are familiar with the safety warnings in the manual.

Connect all the necessary hydraulic hoses and electrical plugs to the tractor. If you are not familiar with the electronic weighting system of the feeder please read the accompanying electronics opera-tors manual. Ensure that the parking lights of the machine are switched on to supply power to the digital scales. Once the digital scales have been programmed the operation of the feeder can begin. Before operating the machine make sure the barrel of the feeder is clean and that all other persons around the machine are aware that it is about to be started up.

Before loading the feeder run it at low r.p.m. for a number of minutes so that the gearbox oil can warm up and all working parts are lubricated. Increase this time during winter.

LOADING:1. Before filling the machine ensure that the interior of the feeder is clear, the feeding out door is fully closed and anyone around the machine are at safe distance.

2. If necessary zero the scales first and then select a pre-programmed recipe if required. Once the correct recipe for the particular animals has been selected loading of the feeder can begin.

3. Start the engine running at low tractor r.p.m. i.e. 1800 – 2000 r.p.m. for mixing.

4. The following sequence should be used to load the machine for best mixing results.a) Round baled hay & straw and baled silage.b) Meals, grain or concentrates.c) Pit silage.d) Molasses or other liquids.

5. Remove all plastic, twinesand net wrap from round bales before loading. Always use a loader or similar to fill the machine and avoid touching the central auger during loading.

6. Push in the Counter Blades to the correct position before operating the tub feeder.

7. Check that large bales (i.e. round) have been chopped to the desired length. If so pull out the counter blades and continue loading other ingredients.

8. Once the required total weight has been loaded into the machine reduce the r.p.m. of the feeder to allow the ingredients to mix.

9. The mix is then complete and ready for unloading.

7 8

Useful Advice on Tub Feeders

Chopping baled silage to a length of 5 - 10cm or shorter will give the best mix and unloading performance.

Check that no foreign objects have been allowed into the mix, these may cause damage to livestock or machinery.

Well chopped pit silage has a higher density than comparable baled silage. A tub feeder load will feed more animals if there is less long fibrous ingredients (i.e round bales) used in the mix.

Loading the feeder manually from over head is dangerous and could lead to serious injury

Safe loading of the Tub Feeder
