Rainhill United, sponsored by Yorkshire, has celebrated another year of success. The under 10s won the National Easter and Spring Festival of Football in Skegness without conceding a goal in ten games over three days. Team captain Michael Carlisle, son of Yorkshire’s Phil Carlisle who manages the team, was presented

with the winner’s trophy by ex-Everton FC footballer, Tony Cottee. The team also finished third in the Rainhill and St. Helens mini soccer league and came runners up in the League Challenge Cup. Yorkshire is delighted to continue its support of the team and wish them even more success this season.

LiFE ON thE OpEN rOadHarry Pevie, Design Engineer at Yorkshire, has let his passion for cycling take him on some thrilling adventures.

Harry, who began cycling in an attempt to lose weight and get fit, cycled from Land’s End to John O’groats a few years ago. His journey took 14 days and six hours, with only one day off!

More recent adventures include cycling to Paris and Normandy, where he visited the battlefields of World Wars One and Two. In 2009, Harry is planning to cycle across Vietnam and he hopes eventually to cycle across America.

Yorkshire has successfully bid on one of the Superlambanana statues which have been positioned around Liverpool during the city’s year as European Capital of Culture.

Yorkshire’s figure, officially titled ‘The Monument to the Superlambanana’, is a large copper coloured version and is due to be positioned outside the new offices, which will be completed at the end of the year.

Jack Wallace, UK Commercial Director, commented: “Our Systems Manager, Malcolm Mackenzie, suggested bidding on the Superlambanana. As a large manufacturing site based in Liverpool we thought it would be a good idea to get involved with the Capital of Culture celebrations.

“We have had a great reaction from staff as they are all very proud of the city and they are pleased to be linked with this historic year.”

Paul Smith, Factory Manager, and John Dodd, Financial Controller, attended the auction at Liverpool’s St george’s Hall. Yorkshire’s successful bid will go towards the Mayor of Liverpool’s chosen charities. Other successful bids on the evening came from television producer Phil Redmond and football legend Kenny Dalglish.

LOHAS Park, a brand new concept town, will be one of the largest and greenest residential developments in Hong Kong. LOHAS, which means “Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability”, is a new global concept that advocates sustainable, healthy living without compromising on quality or sophistication.

The development, managed by MTR Corporation, will be completed in phases from 2009 to 2015. Yorkshire is

supplying copper tube for Phase Two through its local distributor, Brighten Building Materials Ltd, to plumbing contractor ACME Sanitary Engineering Co Ltd. Phase Two comprises seven residential towers, each 50 storeys high.

Robert Smith, Export Sales Director, said: “This is a major contract win for Yorkshire. The plans for this state-of-the-art community look amazing and will provide a real country park environment

just outside the city. We are delighted to be part of such an inspiring residential project.”

LOHAS Park will offer space and nature and includes a 200,000 square-foot Central Park. The town has been specially designed to allow the formation of breezeways that will maximise airflow, and a spacious waterfront promenade has been designed to encourage residents to go outdoors for a stroll or cycle along the waterfront.

Yorkshire’s new office building is well on its way and is due to be completed by the end of the year.

The façade of the building has been inspired by a copper theme and is based on the concept of a number of

copper extrusions emerging from the body of the building. The effect is created with extensive use of KME group’s TECU cladding products. The new security lodge has now been completed and uses TECU Brass copper cladding.
