Years 5&6 Catholic scripture As mentioned in past parent news, Catholic Scripture for Years 5 & 6 will be again up and running in Term 3. It will be a combined group led by Father Michael. Notes went home to all past Catholic students asking them to advise whether they wanted to return to Catholic SRE. So far we have only had 6 replies. If would like your child to attend Catholic scripture and they are in Years 5 or 6 please contact the school by Wednesday this week either by email [email protected] or phone 0244551504.

Milton Show 2021 Pigs, Pumpkins & Ponies This year as you may know the Milton Show was cancelled due to COVID regulations. We have decided to honour the Milton Show by transforming our school hall into a “Show Pavilion” during Education Week Term 3. We invite all students K- 6 to participate. At home students can get busy making, creating or growing from the various categories that you can find on the Pavilion entry guide which has been added to the newsletter. We will display all students homemade or grown items in the hall during Education Week. If any student from Kindergarten to Year 6 would like to enter the Milton Public Show Pavilion please check out the entry guide, make, grow or create at home and bring your entries to Miss Oxley Week 1 Term 3. Please make sure your item is clearly labelled with your name, your year, teacher and the category and class you are entering.

Zade’s Ned Kelly Helmet Zade in Year 5 this week presented the most wonderful speech on Ned Kelly. As an accompaniment to his talk he made this awesome Ned Kelly helmet himself. Great work Zade!

Taz selected for the South Coast cricket team The members stand will be on their feet as Taz walks onto the field to represent the South Coast region at the NSW state titles. Taz was selected in the South Coast team last week and will spend Term 3 training for the 4 day state titles in October. She will be at ease with the pressure as competing at such a high level isn’t new for her. She is also a member of the South Coast AFL

team. All the best with the training Taz. Milton is very proud of you!

Regional Cross Country Congratulations to the 19 Milton Public School students who competed at the South Coast Regional Cross Country Carnival on Friday 11th June. Athletics Carnival Our Primary Athletics Carnival was held last Wednesday on a glorious Winter’s day. The children looked great in their house colours and demonstrated fantastic behaviour, enthusiasm and team spirit throughout the day. The day ran smoothly using our new Meet Manager technology resulting in us having enough time to catch up with some field events at the end of the day. Thanks to all the parents and carers who supported our carnival on the day together with Bec in the canteen and the parent helpers. Well done to the all our teachers who made the day run smoothly. The last remaining field events which have been delayed due to weather will hopefully be finalised this week. At the conclusion of our ‘Olympic Day’ this Thursday, we will announce age champions and the winning house and present ribbons to the placegetters. Milton, together with Ulladulla Public School will be running the District Athletics Carnival in week 4 next term at Frogs Holla. Athletes who have qualified for this event will receive permission notes early next term.

Olympics Games Day This Thursday 24th June all students have been invited to participate in an Olympics Games Day. The day’s events are as follows: 9:35 – 10:05am – Opening Ceremony 10:05 – 11:20 – Session 1 K-2 Events 11:20 – 11:40 – Recess 11:40 – 1:00pm – Session 2 3-6 Events 1:00 – 1:55pm – Lunch 2:00 – 2:30pm - Closing Ceremony Classes have been assigned a country (see the table on next page for details) and teachers will let children know what they should wear. Attention Kinder parents Kindergarten have had such a wonderful start to the year. They’re settled in our school assemblies, playing nicely in the playground and doing some amazing work in class. Due to all of these factors and more Kindergarten home time will be changing from 3:15 to 3:25 pm in order to bring them in line with the rest of the school. This change will take place at the beginning of Term 3.

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection

of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires

schools to identify information already available in the school about supports

provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under

the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education

2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD

includes:

• year of schooling

• category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional

• level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated

teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

· formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with

disability in schools

· consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in

schools

· develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in

order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability. The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy). Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

Kind regards

Jason Barby

Year 6 High school enrolment packs The high school enrolment packs went home last week. Please fill these out and return them to Ulladulla High School. If your child did not receive one this means that they have not handed in an expression of interest form which were handed out in Term 1. Please contact the high school with any questions regarding this.

Year 6 Bridge Building Term 2 On Thursday week 8, Year 6 designed, created and constructed bridges from cable stays to simple but strong beam bridges and much, much more. Year 6 were placed into groups of 3-6. We went through the stages of building, designing and also planning our bridges. We spent the day hammering, sawing and wiring the various bridge designs. In the end we tested the bridges on Tuesday morning. The testing was my favourite because I got to watch the other bridges pass the 5kg weight test and watch everyone jump on the bridges. None of the bridges collapsed or snapped but a lot looked like they could snap. It was a fun day and a great way to finish our bridge unit.

Storyfest 2021 Olivia and Grug Kindergarten students thoroughly enjoyed the performance by Ulladulla High School students as they introduced the book characters Olivia and Grug. The session was lots of fun and all students had a great time interacting and listening to stories written by Ted Prior and Ian Falconer. Andrew Levins New author Andrew Levins engaged stage one students during Storyfest last week with his funny stories about Nelson and his hate for eating vegetables. This new series of books follows the adventures of a young boy called Nelson and the superpowers he receives when eating different kinds of vegetables. Andrew spoke about the development of the character and interacted with students in developing superpowers based on a variety of vegetables. Kate and Jol Temple Year three and four students were dazzled by well-known authors Kate and Jol Temple. Their presentation gave students an insight into the development of stories in a humorous way. This show introduced their new book ‘The Underdogs’ to an eager audience and certainly motivated students to read the funny and entertaining books the duo have written in both picture book and novel formats. A number of students then participated in two writing workshops allowing them to develop their own detective characters with special skills that make them unique. A number of writing strategies and some great writing tips were shared with pupils. Matt Stanton Year five and six students were entertained by outstanding story writer and story teller Matt Stanton. Students were given an inside look at the techniques and processes a writer undertakes as they create humorous stories designed to engage an audience. A number of students were eager to discuss Matt’s books with him after the show and many of his books have now been borrowed from the library which demonstrates his success as a writer. Milton Public School would like to thank the visiting authors and Ulladulla High School for making this week possible. We would also like to thank the amazing organisation of the Ulladulla Storyfest Committee and volunteers in making such a worthy event happen and motivate students to engage in both reading and writing. Many of the books written by these wonderful authors are now available at the Harbour Bookshop Ulladulla.

Mens’ Health Week shines a light on the importance of staying not only physically healthy, but mentally healthy too, for yourself, your family and your children. Did you know, only 30% of a man's overall health is determined by his genetics, whilst 70% is controllable through lifestyle?* Making small changes to things like your sleeping habits, mental wellness, nutrition and physical activity, all helps to make a positive impact. Dr Bruce Robinson shares his top three tips to stay physically and mentally healthy: 1. Look after your physical health.

We're not talking anything strenuous, just 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day makes a big difference.

2. Practise self care and implement strategies that assist your mental health.

3. Talk it out. Confide in your mates, and have the courage to talk through what's on your mind
