PRAYER FOR SEMINARIANS

June 17 Reverend Mr. Randy Courville 18 Myles Creek 19 Tanner Darbonne 20 Brent Didier 21 Cameron Domingue 22 Phillip Domingue 23 Casey Dugas DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS Eternal Father, we lift up to You these and all the priests of the world. Sanctify them. Heal and guide them. Mold them into the likeness of Your Son, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest. May their lives be pleasing to You in Jesus ’ name we pray. Amen June 17 Reverend Angelo Cremaldi 18 Reverend Barry Crochet 19 Reverend F. Hampton Davis 20 Reverend Monsignor Jefferson DeBlanc 21 Reverend Michael DeBlanc 22 Reverend Ed Degeyter 23 Reverend Michael Delcambre

Think, O God, of our friends who are ill, whom we now commend to Your compassionate

regard. Comfort them upon their sickbed, and ease their suffering. We beg for deliver-

ance, and submit that no healing is too hard for the Lord, if it be His will. We therefore

pray that You bless our friends with Your loving care, renew their strength, and heal what

ails them in Your loving name. Thank you Lord

Please keep the sick and healing of our community in your prayers:

“None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s” Romans 14:7–8 I have found that a central human concern is where we place our hope. If the times seem to us hopeless, it is because the circumstances do not seem to offer a place for our hopes. Distressing as this might appear to us, no circumstance is beyond the scope of God. This Sunday’s first read-ing is an example of this. God promises to restore the dynasty of David and the Kingdom of Israel as it is crumbling all around him. The sign of Ezekiel is not in keeping with the material circum-stances. In order to have peace, Ezekiel invites us to hope in God. He is our hope, and he is our peace. A key source of anxiety for us in this life is the false belief that we should be without any anxiety. God gives us peace which can conquer our fears, but fundamentally our peace is with God. Paul notes that our courage comes from the hope that we are journeying towards eternal life with Him. We can have peace in this life. The effectiveness of this peace is related to our hope for eternity with God. Because Paul believes in eternal life with God he is willing to endure all hardships for the gospel. They are nothing in view of eternity. I think the second difficulty we experience is the trustworthiness of our hope of eternity with God. Human hopes are based on things we can hold onto whereas hope of heaven is immaterial. We fear that God will not keep his side of the bargain. This seems like an excellent rebuttal, however, consider what gives you hope materially. Consider, for example, an investment portfolio. For the hope of future retirement income, we put money in investments. The trustworthiness of these in-vestments are dependent on one’s financial advisor or the performance of the investment product we purchase. If God is who he says that he is, no investment manager can offer the hope that God affords. God can not make mistakes. He even knows how present choices will affect the future. The steadfastness of our hope lies with our faith in God. Hope in God is better than what the world has to offer. The reality is that from the beginning the plan of God is to provide for us. Sin is what separated us from God’s providence. However, the separation is superficial. That is God still wants to provide for us despite sin. What is difficult is that God’s providence requires that we trust him. The world also requires trust. Who is more trustworthy? What the world offers seems on the surface to be better except that experience teaches that what the world offers is superficial and does not last. On the other hand, throughout the bible and history, God has provided hope in the face of hopeless odds. The very existence of the church so many years after the death of Jesus is evidence of God fulfilling his promise. The church has persisted through the years despite persecutions from within and without, the sinfulness of her members, wars, the death of nations. The church persists because it is a divine institution. It is from God, our hope as a church is not in her members, but in the Lord herself. What can each of us do to live in the hopefulness of God? Develop a relationship with God. In order to trust the faithfulness of God, we need to know him. We need to experience the faithful-ness of God. I recommend daily prayer. We need daily time to share with God our situation. We also need daily meditation where we reflect on the word of God and the lives of the saints. This meditation teaches us who God is so that we can begin to explore God’s faithfulness in our own lives. If you need a contemporary example of this kind of life, consider the life of Mother Teresa. She lived a life of deep faith and conviction in God. She had great confidence in God despite the terrible material circumstances of her work. She sustained this great hope and confidence through daily prayer. Fr. Campeaux
