Flood warnings continue for Furnas, Harlan, Gosper and counties east. McCook received another 1.50 from a line of storms moving east late last night. Parts of Furnas counties, al- ready saturated from the weekend rains, received another 4-5 inches yesterday and last night. The forecast is calling for a slight chance of storms tonight and overnight but dry and warmer for the rest of the week into the weekend. GOVERNOR’S EPA ANNOUNCEMENT Governor Pete Ricketts, who is a past chair of the Governors’ Biofuels Coalition, issued the following statement on the Environmental Protec- tion Agency’s (EPA) announcement of the proposed renewable vol- ume obligations (RVOs) for 2020 under the Renewable Fuel Stan- dard (RFS). “While Nebraska appreciates the EPA’s timely release of renewable volume obligations, this proposal does not reflect the agency’s legal duty to enforce a robust RFS or the President’s com- mitment to our farmers. I urge Administrator Wheeler to reallocate waived gallons and ensure that the agency is giving our farmers and ethanol producers the predictability they need, especially during tough times for agriculture.” During numerous meetings with EPA offi- cials, Governor Ricketts has highlighted the need for robust biofuel targets as an integral part of sustaining domestic demand for biofu- els, especially in a challenging trade environment and a time of low commodity prices. DONATE BLOOD Following a difficult Fourth of July week for blood and platelet do- nations and ongoing challenges finding new blood donors, the Ameri- can Red Cross now faces a blood shortage and has issued an emer- gency call for eligible individuals of all blood types to give now and prevent delays in medical care. About 450 fewer blood drives were organized by businesses and other community groups last week than during a typical week as people across the country celebrated the holiday with activities and travel. This led to about 17,000 fewer blood donations than needed for patients in a single week, causing the Red Cross to now have less than a three-day supply of most blood types available and less than a two-day supply of type O blood for patients. At least a five-day supply is desired. “Medical emergencies and critical treatments don’t stop for holiday celebra- tions. Patients depend on lifesaving blood transfusions every day,” said Cliff Numark, senior vice president, Red Cross Blood Services. “Right now, the Red Cross only has less than a three-day supply when we need a five-day supply to be prepared for all situations that require blood products. To help meet this need, we’ve added about 8,000 additional appointments at blood donation centers and community blood drives over the next few weeks to accommodate more donors. But we need people to fill those appointments, please join us today.” STOCKS DOW 81.39 TO 26,724.75 NASDAQ 13.41 TO 8,111.80 WEATHER TUESDAY JULY 9, 2019 Newsflash [email protected] 308-345-5400 www.highplainsradio.net DAVE RAMSEY MONDAY-FRIDAY 6 A.M.-9 A.M.
