Last week the students attended a visiting performance called ‘The Playground Craze’. This performance was

funded by the school as a way of engaging the students in positive thinking and positive behaviour for the start

of a new school year. The performance also reinforced the values in our Tree of Values Program. The messages

were presented through songs and actions focusing on kindness, resilience, happiness and confidence.

Visible Learning

Last week the staff attended two after school workshops to familiarise themselves with the principles of Visible

Learning. A short explanation of the outcome of Visible Learning is:

• teachers will develop skills to diagnose, intervene, implement and evaluate their approaches on learning; and

• students will know what they are learning, why they are learning it, where they are up to with their learning and

what they need to do to take their learning to the next step.

The next step is a planning day for the executive team. On this day we will develop a plan for the school to

embed the Visible Learning pedagogy which will include the identification of strategies to measure the impact

on student learning. Surveys, interviews etc will form part of the data gathering process.

KM have already started talking about what good learners do!

Teacher Professional Development

Did you know, like some students have an individual plan for their learning, that teachers all have a plan too!?

Yes, we are focused on improving our practice at CEPS and each teacher has identified professional goals that

they will work with their supervisor to achieve over the year. Every week our teachers have the opportunity to

collaborate with another teacher and participate in peer coaching to share and discuss best practice. Of course,

our teachers are learning too! We spend approx. 1 hour every week together at school learning new things and

planning. This term we will be looking more at the Seven Steps to Writing, Visible Learning, reviewing our

homework policy, collaboratively marking assessment tasks, regularly reviewing student assessment data and

learning about the BenQ interactive panel that are now in all classrooms.

Parent Survey

Thank you to those parents who were able to commit a few minutes to completing the parent survey after the

parent information meetings recently. There have been just over 50 responses to date. Already we have gained

some great insight into the thoughts of our parents which will inform us how we can work together for ongoing

improvement of our great school. An online link to the survey will be sent on Skoolbag this week. We would

appreciate those who haven’t yet completed the survey taking the time to do so. The survey will be open for a

week.

Our Weekly Assembly

Every Monday our whole school gathers together for our whole school assembly. This is an opportunity for the

students to acknowledge and celebrate the achievement of others who have worked hard in their learning and

who have displayed the focus value for the week. It is also an opportunity for whole school messages to be

shared. The student executive organise and run each assembly, under the direction of staff. This is a wonderful

leadership opportunity for these students. The student executive also gather data for the trophies that are

handed out to a class each week. These trophies are ‘Respect’, ‘Class Pride’ and ‘Uniform’. Information from

multiple staff and from daily observations help with this decision each week. These are based on our school

values. Classes are very proud to display the special gold star trophy in their classrooms for the week! A new

addition to the assembly is feedback from Student Parliament. We hope that this increases the profile of this

group and lets the students know that their voice counts.

Digital Devices and Online Services Student Agreement

The Department of Education has released a new Digital Devices and Online Services Policy for implementation

this year. Our school has developed school based procedures based on this policy. This will be available on our

website. The key focus of this policy is for students to be safe, respectful and responsible when using devices

and when online. This week, all students will be provided with a Student Agreement. Please take the time to go

through this with your child, sign and return to school as soon as possible. This document will remain current

while the child is at the school but may need to be updated when there is a review of the policy.

Parking

It is great to see that a number of our parents are using the kiss and ride zone in James Street. This is a safe and

efficient way to drop off and pick up children. Please ensure that parking signs are obeyed and common sense is

used where there are no signs. Bula Street appears to have an increase in cars waiting for children. The corner

of Bula and James has a pedestrian island which needs to be accessed from both sides of the road and vision for

cars coming from James, turning left on to Bula Street needs to be clear. ThankS in advance for your assistance

with parking. We need to work together to keep our children and members of the community safe.

Clean Up CEPS Day

Well done to our students for all being involved in cleaning up our school playground on Friday. Wendy, our

cleaner, and the environment are very happy for the assistance! We hope that the students can see the

importance of doing this on a regular basis.

Have a great week everyone

Michelle Unterrheiner Principal

Thank you to everyone who was able to place an order with Book Club’s first issue for the year!

As a school, CEPS receives 20% of all sales to spend on classroom and library resources. The teachers provide

wish lists of the items they would find beneficial to the teaching and learning of their students and we make as

many purchases to accommodate these requests as possible.

Two catalogues are sent home each term. Families are generally given a week to

place an order (through the LOOP app) and the orders arrive about a week after

the closing date.

The second issue will be sent home this week with a due date of March 12th.

Thank you for your support and happy reading!

Our planting day this term will be held on Thursday March 19, with Years 3-6 taking part in a variety of activities

in our garden.

We need parent helpers from any of our children to assist with activities on the day. It doesn't matter if you only

have a spare hour or can help all day, any assistance would be appreciated.

Contact Maree Turner [email protected] for more information or to put your name down to help. Fingers

crossed these mozzies will be gone by then!

Thank you!

Last Tuesday was Pancake Tuesday. Students really loved the delicious pancake treats made available for recess.

Thank you to Michelle Hammond, Sarah Blatchford and Rebecca Howard for all of your help making and serving

the pancakes.

Today we had our first Fresh Food Tuesday for the year. Custard cups with strawberries for recess and taco boats

for lunch. We have these days once a month and try to use some produce from our schools garden. It is our hope

that on these days the children will try something new. All items on these days are made fresh and are counter

sales only no orders.

An Easter Meal Deal will be available on Thursday March 26. Notes will go home for this soon.
