Schlimgen said. “We gave ourselves a really good chance to win a state title. We were just a little short.” Gullikson and Davis each had two hits in the loss for Yankton, while Nelson, Spencer and Mueller all added a hit. For the winning Knights, Schaefbauer was 3-3 with three runs scored, while Viger was 3-3 with two runs. Cory Steffen and Flynn Donelan also had hits in the victory for O’Gorman — who had beaten Yankton 7-5 in the regular season. Though the ultimate goal fell one game short, Nelson said the sting of the loss doesn’t take away from the team’s accomplishments. “At the beginning of the year, we talked a lot about getting here,” Nelson said. “This isn’t very much fun losing, but it’s still cool that we got this far.” Of the 11 players who saw time in Monday’s semifi- nal game for Yankton, only three were graduating sen- iors — Nelson, Spencer and Zach Johnson. Seven oth- ers were juniors and one, Mueller, was a sophomore. In other words, Yankton returns a bulk of its talent from this season. “We all got to watch when state was at our place, and since then, we wanted to be a part of that,” said Gullikson, referring to the 2008 Class A State Tournament, which was held in Yankton. “That was our goal all along. “Hopefully we can do this again.” STATE From Page 8 SCOREBOARD Philadelphia 3, Houston 2 Colorado 1, Seattle FC 0 Real Salt Lake 4, Kansas City 1 Toronto FC 3, San Jose 1 Wednesday, June 2 Houston at New York, 6:30 p.m. Columbus at San Jose, 9 p.m. NHL Finals Saturday, May 29 Chicago 6, Philadelphia 5 Monday, May 31 Chicago 2, Philadelphia 1, Chicago leads series 2-0 Wednesday, June 2 Chicago at Philadelphia, 7 p.m. Friday, June 4 Chicago at Philadelphia, 7 p.m. x-Sunday, June 6 Philadelphia at Chicago, 7 p.m. x-Wednesday, June 9 Chicago at Philadelphia, 7 p.m. x-Friday, June 11 Philadelphia at Chicago, 7 p.m. NBA Playoffs CONFERENCE FINALS Friday, May 28 Boston 96, Orlando 84, Boston wins series 4-2 Saturday, May 29 L.A.
