Go to m.mdconsult.com and login
Browse by Quick Reference Topic or search
on a keyword/phrase
Some keyword searches will be automatically mapped to a
Quick Reference Topic (QRT), if available.
If a QRT, is not available, MDC will return search results by
format (books, clinics, journals)
MDConsult
Clicking on the down arrow under “Search Results”
allows you to select & view citations in each format.
Click on the MDCm logo to get back to the Quick
Reference Topic listing.

You can also browse or search for a predefined Quick Reference Topic.
Quick Reference Topics are divided into
subcategories: overview, signs & symptoms,
etiology, etc.

Click on the subcategory to get the full-text of articles or book chapters selected based
on relevancy by MDCs subject experts.
Full-text is “mobile enabled” for easy reading on smaller device
screens.
Now let’s take a look at…FirstConsult
After initial activation & download, no login is necessary
for accessing FC. Content is stored on the device so it can be
accessed even w/o a data connection.
Browse or search for a predesignated condition or
disease. If no results then use broader term or try keyword
search in MDC.

FirstConsult divides topics into subcategories. Information is in summary form rather than articles/book
chapters.

Under Resources, references link to a Pubmed record or the publisher site. The library may or may not subscribe to the
journal via the publisher. Because links go to external source (publisher site) articles will not be “mobile enabled” for easy
viewing.

Except for initial activation and to download updates, don’t need to login every time you use

Gives full information in summary format for each disease/condition.
Links to articles under the Resources section . Fulltext of articles may/may not be accessible & may not be formatted for mobile viewing.
Can only find information on predesignated diseases/conditions. If not finding what you are looking for use a broader term or search MDC.
Not a Clinician? Reasons to Download FirstConsult/MDConsult for Non-Clinicians… Resources section (FC) often
lists leading Associations websites where you can find Patient Education materials on specific disease/condition
Some entries have Patient Education information available and/or links to websites. (FC)
In a major disaster, your mobile device can be a source of information for clinicians if data connections are down (FC).
Be a better patient, research your disease/condition to ask better questions at appointments.
