As part of our Team Tulliallan Program, students will be receiving or may have already received a letter from their teachers to introduce themselves and support relationship building. Positive and respectful relationships between children, teachers and parents working together creates a harmonious school for the success of all. The “Team Tulliallan Program” is about supporting our children for success at school, promoting responsibility for their own learning and the ability to make good decisions for themselves. They will look at why it is important to come to school and how they are a part of their Learning Community team and the whole school community. It is important that the children believe in themselves and their abilities. As parents and educators, we need to foster this belief in our children by being positive and nurturing their independence. CAR PARKING AND SAFETY Parents must use courteous and safe behaviour when dropping off or picking up students around the school. It is illegal to double park or block resident driveways. Perhaps park further away and walk to the school as there is plenty of parking along Wheelers Park Drive. We ask that parents do not park on Ravenhurst Circuit as this is a narrow and dangerous street where there were a few near misses of students which was very concerning for the students, parents and staff. The school is responsible for educating students about safe travel to and from school. The school is not responsible for traffic misdemeanours, which is the role of the Council Traffic Officers or Police. If you see unlawful or illegal behaviour dangerous to our students please report it to the Police or Casey Local Laws area via [email protected] email with attention to Local Laws or call 9705 5200 to report it as they go to areas on a complaints basis. SWIMMING TRIALS FRIDAY 16th FEBRUARY 2018

On Monday 11th of February 2018 we will be holding our School Swimming Trials at Casey Race Aquatic Centre. This is a chance for children to be timed for selection for the school swimming team that will compete in the Hampton Park District Swimming Carnival on Friday 2nd March 2018. All children who wish to be timed will need to be able to swim 50 metres without stopping. They can swim any of the following strokes; freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke and

butterfly. Children must also be able to dive.

Students have already had a meeting to indicate interest and have already received a COMPASS note as this event costs $6.50 per child. If you would like your child to trial for the team and they have not received the note, please

contact Ms Tobin by Thursday 7th February 2018.

All of the children will travel by car to the Pool. Parents may also need to assist in transporting their own children where possible. The children will depart from school at 1pm and will return at approximately 3pm. Children will need to wear school uniform and bring bathers (Speedos or one piece bathers), towel, water to drink and snacks. Please bring own

goggles if they are needed.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

For all our new families that have joined us in 2019 I would like to introduce myself. My name is Lynne McDonald and I am privileged to be the Assistant Principal of Tulliallan Primary School. Please feel free to come and have a chat and if at any time you have any issues please don’t hesitate to contact me so we can work out a resolution together. I hope you and your children enjoy your time with us. You have chosen a

great school!!

PREPS

Just a reminder that Prep students do not attend school on a Wednesday during February. They do however have to attend for one hour on one of the Wednesday’s to sit their English online assessment as well as a Maths test. If you haven’t made a time as yet, please log into COMPASS and click on the link on your child’s home page. If you have any issues,

please contact the office for support.

MEET THE TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Next Tuesday February 12th starting at 3.45pm we have our ‘Meet the Teacher Interviews’. Teachers would like to meet with all families during the evening so please ensure that you log into COMPASS to book a time. IF you need support in doing this, your child’s teacher can book a

time for you.

HATS

Term one is a Sunsmart term, and therefore it I compulsory that all children have a Tulliallan school hat to wear when outside. This week we have had far too many students having to attend hat duty and therefore not having the opportunity to play outside and form very important relationships with their peers. You can purchase a hat from the office or

from PSW in Officer.

BOOK CLUB

The first issue of Book Club was sent home to the majority of the school this week. Some students will receive their issue later in the week due to a shortage being supplied. If you wish to order any books for your child, please follow the instruction of booking online through Loop or by sending your order to school with money enclosed. All orders need to be

in by February 14th.

Have a lovely week

Assistant Principal

FROM THE OFFICE…

Don’t forget to label your children’s school hats and jumpers so any misplaced items can be returned to them.

School finishes at 3.20pm and children must be collected promptly. If you are running late due to unforeseen circumstances please call the office on 8766 3100 to let us know.

Lunches - it is important that your child remembers to bring their lunch to school in the morning, children can get quite distressed when they find out they have forgotten their lunchbox.

If you are having trouble logging onto compass please call the office so we can assist you.

PRAM LEFT FAMILY NIGHT

There was a pram left behind on Family Night which no one has claimed. If this is yours please come into the

office to collect it.

MUCH LOVED TOY

Last week on Friday, a kinder child from the

YMCA gave her toy to a Tulliallan student

through the kinder fence. Please ask your child

if they have this toy pictured below as it was a

special gift from a family member from Japan.

The toy can be returned to the School Office

or the YMCA Early Learning Centre.

Thank you

Nude Food at Tulliallan Primary School

What is Nude Food?

At Tulliallan Primary School, we encourage students to bring Nude Food to school each day. Nude Food is simply

food that is not wrapped in foil, single-use plastic or any commercial packaging. The best type of Nude Food

consists mainly of fresh food such as fruits and vegetables, so that it is healthy and environmentally-friendly.

Promoting Nude Food allows children to make conscious choices about what they eat, and encourages them to

think about their impact on the environment (and their health).

Why is it important?

Nude Food benefits the environment by reducing packaging waste, which in turn reduces energy and resource

use. For example, transporting a sandwich to school in a reusable container rather than wrapping it in single-use

cling wrap each day decreases the amount of plastic sent to landfill and saves valuable resources. Nude Food

lunches also promote healthy eating as highly processed foods are often packaged, while unprocessed snacks,

such as fruit and vegetables, are not.

Tips for Nude Food Lunches

There are many ways to promote Nude Food at home and at school. Top tips include:

Encourage your children to make (or help make) their own lunch. This will help to avoid uneaten foods being

sent to landfill (and save your family money!).

Try to pack the lunches the night before and store in the fridge to avoid rushing in the morning.

If your child normally enjoys chips, yoghurt or other pre-packaged snacks, buy these in a larger format (or in

bulk) and decant these into smaller reusable containers. This reduces the overall amount of packaging (and often

saves money).

If your child does enjoy chips, try making your own vegie versions using sliced beetroot, parsnip or sweet potato

and baking in the oven. This also helps cut back on food waste by using up wilting vegetables.

Make or bake other homemade treats such as muesli, banana bread and muffins. This teaches children lifelong

skills and ends up saving oodles of plastic packaging waste.

Make or purchase reusable beeswax wraps to replace plastic cling wrap for sandwiches and snacks. These can

be bought online, at markets or homewares stores, or you can make your own.

Invest in reusable lunchboxes, containers, cups, water bottles and cutlery.

Get more value from food. Visit the Love Food Hate Waste website for great recipe ideas that use last night’s

leftovers in exciting ways for school (and work) lunches.
