ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This event was held right after the DH operating board

meeting the same day. The activities of the recent term were

discussed and recommendations were noted. It was decided to

change the section bylaws such that the chair will act for 2

years, which used to be one.

The Section Operating Board for the 2013-2014 term was

OPERATING BOARD MEETINGS

The section operating board had met three times before this

newsletter was prepared. The meetings were held on May 24,

June 24 and July 26. The decisions made include:

Following the DH Operating Board Meeting two joint

activities were planned between the Turkish, Israeli and Swiss

sections. These include collaborating between the three

section in order to plan and conduct an international student

design competition on the Sustainable and Innovative Uses of

Renewable Energy Modalities.

Another activity is being planned in collaboration with the

Swiss Section, aiming to carry the expertise about the gas

turbine technology of our Swiss counterparts to Turkey.

DH OPERATING BOARD MEETING

District H (Europe) operating board was held on May 24,

2013 at the historical rectorate building of Marmara

University in Sultanahmet, Istanbul.

Section leaders, correspondents, some members from France,

Israel, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom, staff

from the ASME Headquarters and from the European Office

attended the operating board. The board was co-hosted by the

DH leader Prof. Dr. Memis Acar and Turkey Section Past

Chair Prof. Dr. M. Zafer Gul.

TURKEY SECTION DINNER AND 25th YEAR AWARDS

Following the DH Operating Board and Turkey Section annual general meeting, the section hosted a dinner in honor of leader

and members of ASME's European District, representatives from ASME HQ and from the Brussels Office, as well as special

guest members of our section to receive their 25th year membership plaque. It turned out to be a memorable event.

DISTRICT-H LEADERSHIP AND TRAINING CONFERENCE

Leadership Training Conference (LTC) for district H was designed to cater to the specific needs of its local units and raise

awareness of critical changes taking place within ASME and their impact on unit strategy and was held on May 25. The goal

of the LTC was to equip ASME’s District H volunteers with leadership training, relevant information for units, and

networking opportunities with peers. Event was managed by the ASME staff.

SPEECH AND WORKSHOP OF Dr. NAEL BARAKAT

The great value added by the speech and workshop of the speaker catalyzed exchange of ideas

and communication between sections and led to a brainstorming session during which new

joint projects were developed. Dr. Nael Barakat is a fellow of ASME, Mechanical Engineering

Professor and ASME District-B leader.

The ASME 2014 12th Biennial Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis (ESDA2014) is

organised by ASME in cooperation with the Danish Society of Engineers (IDA) and the Danish Society of

Mechanical Engineers (DMS) and will be held at the Tivoli Congress Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, June 25-

27, 2014.

The ASME ESDA Conferences are held every two years and have become the premier mechanical engineering

conference in Europe. ESDA Conferences typically attract well over 500 technical papers and participants from

over 50 countries.

The scope of the conference covers a range of major topics in engineering, and related disciplines, ranging from

theoretical developments through to industrial applications and case studies.
