Trax® Attendance Manager – Full Installation (Windows XP, 32 bit Windows Vista, or 32 bit Windows 7)

Turn Off User Account Control (for Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers only)

1. Go to Start Control Panel User Accounts

2. Select Turn User Account Control on or off (Windows Vista) or Change User Account Control Settings (Windows 7)

3. Uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer (Windows Vista) or choose Never notify (Windows 7) and select OK (NOTE: You may turn User Account Control back on when installation is finished.)

4. Reboot your computer Download Installation Files

1. Select Support from the shortcut menu

2. Select the Downloads link from the Support window

3. Select 5. Trax Attendance Manager Install Files

4. Select Run on File Download window (NOTE: The download is over 50 MB and may take over 30 minutes to complete)

5. Select Run after download is complete

6. Select Unzip

7. Select OK after files were successfully unzipped

8. Select Close

Download and Install Microsoft .NET 2.0 (Windows XP only)

Check if Microsoft .NET 2.0 is installed on the computer at Start Settings Control Panel Add or Remove Programs (NOTE: Make sure to look for version number as a different version of Microsoft .NET may be installed); if it is not, then continue with this section; if it is, then skip to Install Trax Attendance Manager section

Open Internet Explorer, type http://download.kidtrax.com/webbased/socket/dotnetfx20.exe in the address bar, and press the Enter key

Select Run on File Download window

Select Run if a Security Warning window appears

Select Next

Read license terms, check I accept the terms of the License Agreement, and select Install (NOTE: Installation will take several minutes)

Select Finish

Install Trax Attendance Manager

1. Browse to C:\Trax Attendance Manager Install Files folder and double-click on Setup.exe

2. Select Yes on Windows Installer Loader window for .NET 1.1 (NOTE: If the Windows Installer Loader window does not appear, then skip to step 10 in this section)

3. Select Download after the .NET web page appears

4. Select Run on File Download window (NOTE: Download is over 20 MB and may take over 30 minutes to complete)

5. Select Run after download is complete

6. Select Yes on Setup window

7. Choose I Agree and select Install

8. Select OK after installation is complete

9. Double-click on Setup.exe to start Trax Attendance Manager installation

10. Select Next on Welcome window

11. Choose Everyone (recommended) or Just Me and select Next

12. Select Next on Conform Installation window

13. Select Close on Installation Complete window

Install SQL and Setup Database

1. Go to Start Programs Trax Solutions Trax Attendance Manager Setup Database

2. Select Yes on Invalid Permissions window (NOTE: Skip to #6 in this section if Invalid Permissions window does not appear)

3. Choose the Security tab and select Edit

4. Highlight Users under Group Names, check the Full Control and Modify boxes under Permissions, and select OK

5. Select OK

6. Select Install SQL Server 2005 Express on the Setup Database window

7. If Program Compatibility Assistant window appears, check Don’t show this message again and select Run Program

8. Installation will take several minutes (NOTE: Installation includes file extraction, prerequisite installation, and SQL setup)

9. Press any key to continue after setup is complete (NOTE: Please contact nFocus Software Support if an error appears on this screen)

10. Select Create Database on Setup Database window

11. Press any key to continue after database is created

12. Select Close on Setup Database window

Configure Preferences

1. Go to Start Programs Trax Solutions Trax Attendance Manager Preferences

2. Choose Scanner tab and select the COM port that the Orbit scanner is physically connected to (NOTE: A configured COM/serial port is needed for Trax Attendance Manager to read scans from the Orbit scanner. If your computer does not have a COM/serial port, then you can purchase a serial-to-USB adapter from your local electronics store. The serial-to-USB adapter can be installed as a COM/serial port by using the included driver.)

3. Choose the Database tab and select Defaults button

4. Select Test Connection (NOTE: DO NOT change or edit any information in this window unless instructed by nFocus Support)

5. Select OK after successful connection

6. Choose User tab, enter user names and passwords for all Trax programs, and select Initialize Trax Attendance Manager (NOTE: Do not enter usernames and passwords for StaffTrax and/or VolunteerTrax if your organization does not use these programs)

7. Select OK after successful initialization

Install Scanning Character

1. Browse to C:\Program Files\TraxDesktop\TraxAttendanceManager folder and double-click on MSagent.exe (NOTE: Phonetic pronunciation is not compatible with Windows Vista)

2. Select Yes

3. If the Program Compatibility Assistant appears, select This program installed correctly

Download Trax Information

1. Double-click on the Trax Attendance Manager icon on your desktop

2. Select Yes on Update Available window if it appears the first time that you open Trax Attendance Manager (and when prompted) (NOTE: The most recent version of Trax Attendance Manager can always be accessed at http://download.kidtrax.com/webbased/tam/tamupdate.exe)

3. Select OK to install update (NOTE: It may take several minutes for update to download)

4. Go to Actions Synchronize Update (Download) Update Trax Information

5. Select Get Trax Data

6. Select OK after successful download (NOTE: It may take several minutes for Trax Information to download)
