Baton error codes

A selection of the most common Baton error codes are shown below. Technology would welcome your feedback on the Baton settings.

Error Code Required action[CAUTION] As per ITU-BT-1702 and Ofcom guidelines, Potentially Harmful Video Flashes detected.

Ingest do not need to check this, it will need to be sent to MCR to be ‘repaired’ (DO NOT DELETE)!

Audio Silence detected In a majority of cases this will need to be ‘repaired’ by MCR. On occasion it may be part of the content and intentional - This should always be checked

Blurriness exceeds acceptable duration This will need to be ‘rejected’ if it is a glitch or from poor quality video (playback from Omneon to make sure). It might also be intentional e.g. Part of a video transition etc. in which case it’d be ok to delete this fault from the list.

Film Grain Noise detected Always check the notes for the duration, decide on playback if it’s intentional or undetectable to the human eye (in which case the fault can be deleted) Or it may need ‘rejecting’ if it’s from poor quality video or a glitch

The Black Frame duration does not match the restriction

Notes for technology

FuseFuse is a new feature to join one or more electronic files together. For example: A distributor may choose to send a feature film as a number of separate files. This is because the single file would be very large, and may have problems when transmitted between locations. The individual files would then be ‘fused’ together in Turner Media Centre to create the complete programme/film.

Send to archiveIn addition to the copy of the material stored at the local play out provider (e.g. Arqiva, SES etc.), a high resolution copy of the material is also securely stored in the Turner archive library. This insures that Turner always has a copy of all our material.

Low res proxyThe Proxy function creates a low resolution version of the high-quality material. The low resolution version of the file is use for reviewing material on your computer. The low resolution copy can be viewed at full screen on your computer.

Notes for production

Material for ingestAll Turner EMEA shared content is delivered to Turner House, London. Regional content is delivered directly to (and ingested by) local play out provider.

Original versionThe original in Turner Media Centre is a copy of the distributor’s original.Use this version for: an early preview of the content; for example planning marketing campaigns, creating ideas for promos or first view for subtitling and dubbing production companies. Do not use this version for compliance or creating new promos.
