Merging graphics and textWelcome to CorelDRAW®, a comprehensive vector-based drawing and graphic-design program for the graphics professional.

In this tutorial, you will perform a print merge, which lets you apply personalized text to the same design. This is a great time-saver when creating invitations, labels or, as in this tutorial, business cards.

You will first set up a document as a business card. Then, you’ll enter the information that will appear in a series of business cards in the Print Merge wizard. Then, you will merge that information with the business card drawing, format the text, and print several business cards on the same sheet. This is what the final business card will look like:

What you will learnIn this tutorial, you will learn how

• to set up a document as a business card

• to import a logo graphic

• to add and format text

• to perform a print merge

Adding the company name There are two types of text you can add to drawings — artistic text and paragraph text. You can use artistic text when you are working with short lines of text, such as titles. You can apply a variety of graphic effects to artistic text to make it stand out.

You will use artistic text to add the company name. Then, you’ll resize and stretch the artistic text. You will add paragraph text later in the tutorial.

To add artistic text

1 In the toolbox, click the Text tool , and click on the drawing page.

2 On the property bar, choose Bodini Bd BT from the Font list list box, and 12 from the Font size list box.

3 Type Screamin’ Eagle Flight Club anywhere in the drawing.

4 In the toolbox, click the Pick tool , and click the artistic text.

5 Drag any of the corner selection handles to resize the artistic text so that it fits between the left edge of the logo graphic and the left vertical guideline.

6 Drag the artistic text so that it snaps to the left vertical and top horizontal guidelines.

7 Drag the bottom-middle handle to stretch the artistic text down.

This is what the drawing should look like:

Performing the print mergeYou will create the records for the merge in the Print Merge wizard. A record is all the information that will appear on a business card — for example, name, address, and other contact information. Each piece of information within a record is a field.

You will create a paragraph text frame that will display the contact information on the business card. Then you’ll merge the information you entered in the Print Merge wizard with the business card. Before you print the business cards, you will perform a spelling check to ensure that you didn’t incorrectly type information in the drawing or the text file.
