VILLA DESCRIPTION
VILLA 902 IN TUSCANY, ITALY
This is the way in which Cesare Merciai, the Villas current owner will greet you. This magnificent Villa
was built during the first decade of the 16th century and became the residence of Leopold II, Grand
Duke of Tuscany, during the reclamation of the Maremma land. It then passed into the hands of the
Merciai family, and has been recently transformed into a "Historical House" open to all those whose
wish it is to allow themselves a different type of break, to discover the beautiful surroundings rich in
history and art. The aim is to provide all of the castle's guests with the opportunity to live as the nobility
of the 16th century with all the modern comforts of the 21st century.
Services
The Villa offers its guests something different for every moment of the day; an indoor and outdoor

dining room, the bar-lounge and the swimming pool. On request, many different services can be
arranged such as cooking demonstrations/lessons, painting lessons, massages, private chauffeur
driven car hire, guided tours to the local medieval villages such as Bolgheri, Castagneto Carducci,
Populonia, Massa Marittima, Volterra and to the nearby artistic cities of Lucca, Pisa, Siena and
Florence, visits to the wineries and olive oil mills of the area's most famous producers, excursions to
discover the beautiful coastline of the Tuscan Archipelago with the Castle's private day-cruiser.
Rooms
After a very careful restoration, there are 5 double rooms and 6 suites available. Each room is diverse in
colour, type, view and furnishings, while all combining elegance and modern day comforts: air
conditioning, minibar, safe, satellite colour television, telephone with internet access.
Location
Along the Via Aurelia, looking out onto the Maremma coastline, just opposite the Island of Elba you
will find the Villa. It's half way between Lucca and Siena and just a short distance away from many
important tourist destinations and along the much sought after eno-gastronomical route, along which
we find stops such as the famous "GAMBERO ROSSO" restaurant in San Vincenzo.
This Villa is the ideal destination for those who decide to escape from the noisy city life and for those
who are interested in discovering the real Tuscan Maremma. This corner of Tuscany is gaining more
and more fame as it is frequented by many famous people, such as Sarah Fergusson, The Duchess of
York and Count Gaddo Della Gherardesca, whilst also being the home of some of the most prestigious
wine producers such as Marquis Niccolò Incisa della Rocchetta along with Piero e Ludovico Antinori
and many others. These families produce wines famous all around the world such as "Sassicaia",
"Ornellaia", "Gualdo al Tasso" and "Lupicaia".
