TV Commercials should be banned.Hemant Sharma 12-30-2011 02:55 AM

TV commercials is coming under attack from parents organizations, politicians and pressure groups in many countries as it not only regulates false and misleading ads but also lures people into impulsive spending. But they also provide us with the latest information on the latest products, keeping us updated. Advertisements are all glitter and little truth.

For-- There should be regulations against false or misleading advertisements, as most of the TV commercials are advert towards making profit.- TV can exist without advertising, as it only creates distractions and disturbances.- Commercials coming nowadays depict vulgarity knowing no bounds. - Teenagers become easy victims of the commercials, as they fail to understand that advertisers are only trying to lure them into buying their products.- Advertisements are directed towards the younger generation, luring them into making premature decisions and buying things that are not essential.- There is nothing moral in encouraging customers to be non-rational and impulsive in spending.

Against-- Advertisements offer a wide range of variety for the customers, which give the customers a lot of choices to choose from.- It boosts economy by generating revenue; this money is generally of the people working behind the scenes.- It would be a violation of freedom of speech and press.- Banning ads would create unawareness among the people about the new products that are up for grabs, that might be useful to many.- Banning TV ads would leave a sore taste as it would violate the right of freedom of expression.- Many channels will get closed not being able to meet their cost of production. - Banning the advertisements may lead to channels not being able to air impartial content in national interest as they will have to depend on some particular revenue sources.

In the interest of the free speech, TV commercials should not be banned but they should be restricted in terms of the contents they show that might influence the teenagers in a wrong way. To have Freedom of Speech is a good thing but it should have its limits.

Abortion and Euthanasia - Is it morally right for society?Rajani Sharma 01-2-2012 02:47 AM

Euthanasia is a practice of ending life in order to relieve a person from pain and suffering. Both abortion and euthanasia are done on the consent of the person who wants to do it.

For- Euthanasia is for ill patients who are suffering from severe disease causing them tremendous pain. This relieves them from the unbearable pain.- People who wish euthanasia choose that option on their own. If the person knows that his/her disease is incurable then it is better for him to take that decision instead of bearing the pain and dying a slow

Page 2: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

death. Whereas in the case of abortion if mother chooses not to have a baby then that is her personal decision. - Sometimes people cannot afford the expensive bills of hospitals for the treatment of dreaded diseases and find it easier way to take euthanasia and end their lives. The same state applies in the case of abortion if a person knows that she is not financially sound in that case she chooses to abort her baby.- If a female is expecting a baby out of wed lock (specially in Indian society) owing to an abusement, the option of abortion lets her save her coming life.

Against- God has given us a beautiful life and only he has the power to take it and not any body else.- Abortion and Euthanasia both are not morally right for the society as these means can be misused by any person.- If strict laws are not made then it may be harmful for the human race in the long run.- Female foetecide - aborting female foetus is disturbing the male-female ratio of the nature badly. - Many a times, the relatives of a patient may push him to ask for euthanasia for their personal motives.

Euthanasia and abortion if used sensibly can save a lot of problems and pain, however, it is a matter of taking someone's life. If we can't give life to anyone, we obviously do not have any right to take it.

Journalism should be out of the premises of censorshipRajani Sharma 01-2-2012 03:52 AM

Journalism or reporting is a very responsible and sensitive job as it has a direct effect on a society. It is mainly about reporting rather than supporting -but does the journalism today need to be brought under the scissors of censorship?

For

- India being a democratic country has given the right of freedom of expression to everyone and in the field of journalism, freedom of expressing the thoughts without fear is of utmost importance.- Censorship cripples the journalist as it confines them to work within certain boundaries limiting their thoughts.- Journalists would expose faces that have a big hand behind corrupting our country or to say the least are working on the lines of corruption.- It would ensure that people will get to know the truth without any politics involved behind it.- Free reporting increasing the pressure on politicians and other government bodies. This improves their performance. - It is a medium to inform the people about various issues related to the society.

Against

- There are always incidents that if revealed would harm one’s image. For ex. A molested girl if showed with her photograph would never get a respectable place in the society.- Many unnecessary issues have been brought up by the journalists in the recent times which shouldn’t have been brought up in front of the public.- There are many sensitive issues that a journalist should not raise and censor boards take care of that.- Journalist generally write or show only those contents which they think will attract more public , which would eventually mean more money for them.- In an attempt to increase their TRP or be the first one to report, they at times report even the issues which must be kept secret. For e.g. live coverage of attack on Taj hotel by terrorists lead to security issues.

Page 3: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

Journalism is a great way of bringing the truth in front of everyone but it has to follow strict guidelines as it might raise some issues.

Life imprisonment is a good alternative to capital punishmentRajani Sharma 01-9-2012 01:01 AM

We talk about punishments for the criminals, thieves or people who commit serious mistakes. Do we ever ask ourselves that what is the purpose of these punishments? Is it always necessary to punish people for every mistake? And what are the parameters to decide which punishment is better for which crime.

For

- If a person commits a mistake which has a deep impact on the victim or victim’s family then life imprisonment is an appropriate punishment.- Capital punishment takes the life of a person which is not a real justice to any crime.- Life imprisonment gives a chance to the criminals to realize their mistakes.

Against

- Life imprisonment is not a good alternative to capital punishment as no mistake is big enough for life imprisonment.- Capital punishment is a best way to pass a message to the society.- It removes dangerous criminals from the society making it a safer place for the people.- It will help remove the discrimination, which should be corrected by giving capital punishments to murderers.

Life imprisonment is still far better than capital punishment because it is better to live then die as everyone loves to live.

NGOs - Do they serve people's interests or are they pressure groups?Rajani Sharma 01-6-2012 06:11 AM

Non Government Organization or NGO is an organization which works for the people to protect the interest of people. They are the voice of people. The number of NGOs in India is increasing day by day.

For

- NGO's serve peoples interest positively by utilizing the funds that come either from foreign countries or native countries for their development without being pressurized by any other section.- These organizations have come into the picture to protect the interests of people of the country.- They are also the representative of general public to voice against any issue that goes against their interests. - NGOs have shown that they are in a better position to handle social issues than the government. - They reach out to people in rural areas where it is very inconvenient to reach and understand their concerns and try to improve their lives with the aid which they get from foreign countries, companies, government bodies. - They run various programs which are responsible for sudden and decisive increase in self employment, level of education, woman empowerment etc.

Page 4: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

Against

- The NGOs have a major role to play in politics as they serve peoples opinion.- As they enjoy lot of support from a large portion of population which make them powerful.- They are so powerful that they can make or break a business.- They work hard to solve general public issues and in order to do that they pressurize the concerned authority.- Some NGOs are working only to evade taxes and not for the welfare of general public.

NGOs are formed to serve people. They help general public by identifying the issues and rectifying them by formulating plans and policies and implementing them in a proper way so that the matters can be resolved.

Role of ethics in tobacco industry, liquor industryRajani Sharma 01-9-2012 12:56 AM

Ethics play very important role in the success of any industry. Industries are now trying to create some ethical laws for their further practices.

For- Companies doing business in ethical ways are far ahead than the companies who are using unethical means of doing business.- Companies following ethical principles help them to get good investments from the shareholders and investors as they trust the business of company.- If industries like tobacco and liquor are following ethical principles then they can freely distribute it.- Profits earned by ethics are more valuable then by doing illegal work.- Government also supports ethical industries which are running such businesses.

Against- The industries like tobacco and liquor can’t be made legal even if they have ethics because they produce and sell harmful substances to the consumer which is unhealthy for their health.- Such industries are playing with the health of consumers as they are more interested in making money.- They are promoting their product in such a tempting way that young generation has started taking it putting their life at risk at an early age.

Ethics play a major role in the success of every industry but there is no point of talking about ethics in the case of industries like tobacco or liquor which in no way think about the health of people of the country. They are making products and promoting them in such a way so that its usage increases day by day so that they can get huge profits at the cost of consumers’ health.

We need more management schools than primary schools. Hemant Sharma 12-29-2011 04:23 AM

For-- Education in primary schools is limited to basic education and they do not guarantee employment.- Management schools bestow students with vast knowledge and different variety of education that increases their chances of getting employed.- It’s like a vocational course which polishes their communicating skills and prepares them for future.- Management schools impart skills as most of the course is done through a practical experience that helps one in real life scenarios.- The educational methodology is based on an innovative and pioneering system.

Against-- Primary schools impart the education which is compulsory without which no further studies is possible.- Although the constitution bestows every student with right to education, primary education empowers people.

Page 5: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

- Primary schools are cheap and they prepare one for a better and resourceful education.

Management schools are a must in a country as it pays more heed to students by honing their skills and making them competitive globally. They generally motivate critical thinking, making a student strong and capable of self employment but primary schools ensure that the whole population is literate making the nation grow as a whole.

Primary education must be compulsory with management education being available to those who aspire to study more.

India's growth rate is bridging gap between rich and poor.Hemant Sharma 12-30-2011 06:24 AM

The world has seen a rapid growth in Indian Economy, people have become wealthier, job opportunities have increased significantly and growth in the foreign investment has led to Indian Economy’s boom. But is the economic growth bridging the gap between the rich and the poor section or is it just benefiting the rich section of society?

For-

- There is a substantial increase in the GDP and per capita income.- The rapid growth in the economy has ultimately led to the increase in job opportunities as a result people from every section are being employed.- This fast economic growth has resulted in an increase in the education awareness among the common people and this in return has let to improved literacy rate of India.- The funds coming from the rich section is being utilized for the development of economic status of the poor section.- Everyone in India is getting a fair and equal shot at every job opportunity that rises, thus making poor equivalent to rich.

Against-

- Farmer suicides continue, 90% people still live in strife and penury in rural area.- The rise in GDP is because of the increase in expenses on medicines, drugs, liquor etc. This is a negative GDP- The statistics suggest that the differnce between the earnings of top 10% and bottom 10% has increased hugely in last 20 years. - 70% of the population in India still can't spend more than 40 Rs/- per day.- Still there is an unequal distribution of income in Indian Economy, the rich keep on getting richer and there is no such improvement in the condition of the poor.- Employment opportunities have increased but are limited to some sections. As a result a large section of poor people are unemployed.- There is very scarce means for connectivity of the rural area form the urban area.- The rate of decline in poverty is not in synchronization with that of the economic growth.

India’s growth rate is widening the gap instead of bridging it. The wealth is limited to certain pockets, lack of proper education and rapid increase in the population are some of the reasons that stand out. Programs should be organized to increase the moral of the societies which should help reduce the gap between the rich and poor.

When all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail - Group DiscussionRajmeet Ghai 06-12-2012 04:45 AM

This proverb reflects that some people have a very narrow or a “close” thinking in their approach. So, if an individual only has a hammer as a tool, everything to him looks like a nail and he thinks he can fix everything with a hammer.

For:

Page 6: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

-Such a perspective blocks our mind and we tend to overlook things.

-We tend to perceive things not the way they should be. For e.g. a dermatologist if sees a scar on someone’s face will always suggest him to visit his clinic. The doctor wouldn’t think that the person would care less about the scar.

-With limited set of ideas and or tools, we tend to apply them inappropriately.

-An impression is passed to the viewer that you are not innovative and cannot think “out of the box”.

-By being “narrow” in your approach, you tend to become biased and judgmental. For e.g. if we show a picture of a group of needy people, most people would talk about them as “beggars”, “poor” etc. Barely would you see people talking about “poverty” and methods to eradicate it.

Against:

-At times, hammer is exactly what we need to fix a problem. This means that mostly, we can use the same set of ideas to approach a problem.

-Similar situations can only be tackled with the same approach. We apply a solution in a situation, learn lessons and then use the solution wisely next time.

Conclusion:

It is always good to hear people out and understand rather than looking forward to apply a solution. We shouldn’t jump to conclusions. There is no harm in applying the same ideology, solutions to a given problem as long as we learn our lessons and not repeat the same mistakes.

Good things always arise from good thinking - Group DiscussionGroup discussion 06-14-2012 08:23 AM

Good things always arise from good thinking, reflects optimism. It defines our ability to withstand pressure. This can be done only by purifying our mind and peace of mind. In today’s era, with the stress we handle each passing day, peace of mind is a remote possibility.

For:

- If you think well, you start to divert all your efforts to achieve what you want.

- Let’s take an example of population control. If you think good and take this seriously, each one of us can help the country in population control.

- Good thinking eludes negative, greedy and evil thoughts. If you don’t get such thoughts, inevitably good things will happen.

- If you let one evil thought pass across your mind, you are giving way to more evil thoughts.

- When you think well, you start to enjoy life and take each day as it comes. You avoid wracking your head over trivial issues.

Against:

- With the challenges we face every day, couple of times we encounter situations beyond our control. This prohibits us from thinking good.

Page 7: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

- Always good thinking cannot create good things. We are surrounded by evil people. To deal with such people, good thinking may not help.

- Good thinking alone cannot lead to good things. There are many other factors like corruption etc. that needs to be taken into account.

- We all learn from our mistakes. They help us realize and understand ourselves much better.

- It’s our luck and destiny that matters too. If our luck doesn’t favor us, no type of thinking can help.

Good or bad is decided by our mind. Our mind is usually driven by circumstances. Today, what I feel is good may not be tomorrow. Regardless of whether we think good or not, we must try to work hard to achieve what we want.

Permanent colony on moon is the future.Group Discussion 06-18-2012 05:50 AM

For

- Water which is found to be most essential part of the planet earth is found to be present on moon- a recent study showed.

- Because of moon’s proximity to the earth, it is seen as a prime location for permanent colonization of humans, by humans.

- Due to advancement in technology it has become possible to visit moon from time to time. It has also been found that it is filled with abundant material and rocks which can be used for colonization.

- It is also seen that the energy required to move materials from earth to moon is lower than the other bodies.

- Most of the resources are getting over and in thick of things the humans have to shift its base to another more suitable environment for their survival. So, colonization on the moon is definitely on the cards.

Against

- The low gravity on moon could prove to be detrimental in human’s health.

- Colonization on moon will be way too expensive and way to difficult.

- Moon lacks a substantial environment i.e. its environment is different from that of earth in many aspects and it will be really complicated for man to make suitable conditions, to survive on moon.

- The lack of atmosphere also increases the chances of moon to be hit by meteorite. Its also faces many difficult challenges in the process of growing crops.

Permanent colony on moon is the future.mistrytanmay72 08-22-2013 08:20 AM

INTRODUCTION:

- The colonization of the moon is the proposal establishment of permanent human communities on the moon. Permanent human habitation on a planetary body other than Earth is one of the science fiction shown in movies. As advancement in human technology, it’s been easy for human beings to go on moon from time to time.

Page 8: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

- Recent study showed that water is found on the moon, so the argument that space colonization is achievable, gained momentum. As moon is in our nearest vicinity, it is seen as the most obvious place where humans can make their settlement in near future.

- There are two reasons which might attract human beings towards lunar. First of all, it’s the water that is found on moon and additionally, the moon’s axis of rotation is sufficiently close to being perpendicular to the ecliptic plane that the radius of the moon’s polar circles is less than 60km.

For:

- On our planet Earth, most of the resources are getting depleted, due to many reasons such as tremendous increase in population, increase in industrialization, etc, which can make human beings to shift their location on the moon. As human beings think that moon is the safest place in universe for their survival in near future.

- Due to low gravity on moon, it could be easy for us to lift things easily and the energy required to do it will be very less. We can transmit things easily on moon.

- Water found on moon, is the best part, which made scientists to think about colonization on moon.

Against:

- The lack of substantial atmosphere for insulation results in temperature extremes and makes the moon surface conditions somewhat like a deep vacuum. The lack of atmosphere increases the chances of hitting the colony by a meteor.- Establishing a colony on moon could be very expensive.- Growing crops on moon would be a challenge for the people who may live in colonies on moon in near future.- One of the less obvious difficulties would be about conflicts between nations of getting rights about colony on lunar.

Conclusion:

- Personally, I think that colonization on Moon is going to be a great challenge for human beings as they may face many problems from national, political or natural aspects which may make them to destroy moon. However, we can make new technologies to get adapted to the atmospheric conditions on moon.

Great spirits face violent opposition from mediocre minds.Group Discussion 06-18-2012 03:50 AM

It is our general observation that Great minds are always different. Their ideologies, perspective etc are very unique. That is what gives them an edge and shine out.

For:

- People like Einstein didn’t believe in going to college. Certainly, this is difficult to digest by the mediocre minds.

- Great minds usually give a lot of thought if they have to research on something. They can give up everything they have to attain their goals.

- People like Bill Gates gave up his college to build Microsoft. Certainly, mediocre minds can oppose this.

Page 9: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

- Great minds don’t need support from anybody. They stick to their goals. Mediocre minds usually lose hopes in such cases.

- Great minds don’t get influenced. A mediocre mind will always look for profits.

Against:

- This may not be true in all cases. Most of us consider great spirits as our idols and move along.

- Mediocre minds are satisfied with what they have. They don’t have to oppose anyone.

- They say that “Great minds think alike”. So, usually only a mediocre mind can oppose a mediocre mind.

- Great or mediocre is just the way we look at ourselves. If we are positive in our attitude, we think of ourselves as great minds. That leaves no space to oppose anybody.

All of us have our circumstances that are tied to us. In order to achieve our goals, it may be required to give up everything we possess. Considering the era we live in, this may not be possible. What makes a mind great is to achieve your goals. You don’t have to always discover something to be a great mind.

Education is a progressive way of discovering your ignorance.Group Discussion 06-18-2012 03:47 AM

We may be educated but, that doesn’t mean we have knowledge. Education is not about how many degrees you have; it is about how well we can make use of the knowledge we gained through them.

For:

- Education helps us to differentiate between right and wrong.

- Education helps us to discuss and converse. During this course, we can discover how ignorant we are.

- Education creates awareness of law and surroundings.

- Education opens your mind. It helps you realize your responsibilities that you would have ignored otherwise.

- Let’s take an example by comparing urban India with rural India. Whether it comes to issues like dowry, equal rights for women etc, we can see a vast difference in the perspectives.

- Knowledge about every new things lets us know about the level of our ignorance in that area.

Against:

- They say that it is possible to be educated and still be an empty mind.

- Education can make us aware. However, discovering something is done at a conscience level.

- Discovering ignorance comes through experience.

- Education can add to your knowledge but not necessarily help you discover ignorance.

- Many of the top honchos are not educated but, they are more aware than perhaps many of us.

Needless to mention how important education is; we can safely conclude that education can be one of the means to create awareness. We experience so much daily that we naturally tend to start discovering our ignorance.

Happiness is a mystery like religion, and it should not be rationalized - Group DiscussionGroup Discussion 06-26-2012 06:46 AM

We all have our own definitions of happiness. While some of us are satisfied and happy only if we are stable financially, the rest are happy even otherwise. The secret of happiness is to be satisfied with what we have. Happiness, just like religion is vast and holds different meaning to all of us.

For:

- Happiness cannot be concluded. It’s a never ending feeling.

- The Pursuit for happiness can never be stopped. Hence we should rationalize it.

- Happiness is an emotion that can be felt. And we must never rationalize emotions.

- Happiness just like religion, to each one of us means different and holds differently within us.

- They say that happiness is a mystery because at times unknowing things give us happiness.

- Happiness just like religion cannot be found. You just get it and feel it.

Against:

- Religion has standard set of rules and rituals we follow. Happiness doesn’t.

- Happiness is an emotion. Religion for the most part, is not an emotion.

- There comes a time when we all start to quantify happiness and say “we will be very happy, if we achieve what we want”.

- We all know and realize what will make us happy. This defies the statement that happiness is like a mystery.

Happiness is a very individualistic feeling. Not all of us are content with what we have. Some of us want more while some accept things the way they are and still be happy. It is true that we must not quantify or rationalize happiness. If we start to do that, we lose our emotional shade.

Low cost diamonds for teenagers will help meet their aspirations

For

- Low cost diamonds will ensure teenagers to spend sensibly and not end up buying diamonds they cannot afford.

- The teenagers can now easily buy these diamonds and can give them as a gift to their loved ones without putting too much pressure on their pockets.

- Teenagers are not so keen on wearing the traditional gold and these low cost diamonds have come as a relief for them.

- With lots of problems hurting the families of various teenagers especially financial, it comes as a respite to the teenagers.

Against

- These low cost diamonds are not the real diamonds as diamonds can never cost so low.

- These fake diamonds will only increase the burden on the teenagers as they will feel cheated.

- Teenagers have lots of aspirations and can not be ever met as they never tend to run out of it.

- Diamonds are not ideal for many teenagers as they aspire to be many things but having low cost diamonds is not their top priority.

Commercialization of Medical services - Good or bad?Hemant Sharma 12-30-2011 05:07 AM

This being a materialist world cries out for commercialization of Medical services, as people are concerned only about their well being not that of the others. Is it necessary to commercialize medical services or are we better off without it?

For

- Commercialization would offer better resources and better equipments which would enable a hospital to run in a better way.

Page 12: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

- Advanced technologies coming into picture meaning more chances of survival.- There is a huge difference between the facilities provided by the private hospitals and that made available in the government hospitals.- Commercialization will result in advancement of the healthcare department raising the level by some notch.- They bring in hygienic way of hospitals which the government hospital fails to show.- It promotes competition as well as efficiency. It also prevents malpractice.- It ensures that the doctors are well rewarded for their efforts.

Against

- Medical care is a basic necessity! It should be free or subsidized. Commercializing it will only worsen the condition of people living below poverty line.- 90% of the population being economically weak cannot afford to pay the expenses of a private hospital. Thus commercialization proves to be a bane for a developing country.- The benefit given to the poor people is negligible as rich people become the major beneficiaries of commercialization.- Commercialization for private companies is another way of filling their pockets and generating revenue.- The worth of one’s life is ignored as they only care about their own betterment.- It gives rise to corruption as medical officers do tend to sell the medicines of public hospitals in their private clinics.- Poor are anyways not able to take the benefit of advanced medical technology and hospitals as they are out of their reach. - It even hurts the middle class as the doctors and hospitals try to make maximum money when they see the person can afford a few more thousands. - It gets duplicate drugs in the market. Infact many a times drug which are banned in other countries are sold here to make money.

Health services should be provided at affordable prices, business should not be made out of it. Commercialization of health sectors should be limited to some extent. We can not deny that commercialization is required for better facilities and technologies but at the same time we can’t ignore the fact that a large number of people in India are below poverty line and they are not that able to enjoy the luxuries are made available to them by the private hospitals.

Technology Creates Income DisparitiesHemant Sharma 12-30-2011 04:31 AM

Technology is taking us places and in the modern world scenario it is a boon rather than bane but as far as income disparity is concerned it cuts a sorry figure of our government’s insufficiency and its policy crisis. Is technology the real reason behind income disparity?

For

- Technology is uniformly distributed throughout the country, but urban areas are far ahead in technology. Thus more technology results in more employment and more income, thus the difference between the urban areas and the rural areas.- There is a major cut down in the employment charts as technology reduces the dependency on manpower which is favorable to an organization(as it leads to more profit) but it makes lot of people lose their jobs.- This brings in light the difference between the rural and urban people as the urban people have the knowledge about technology, making them the obvious choice of selection by organizations.- Not only does it results in economic inequalities but also social ones. Individuals with high income are given more respect and are looked upon with high esteem in our society.- Companies opt only for those who are technically sound, further demoralizing other individuals and pointing to some gaping holes in the Indian education system.

Against

Page 13: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

- Technology can be used to provide better education and understanding of its applications, making it an effective tool for every individual.- Technology teaches an easier way of doing things effectively and efficiently.- More sources are utilized thus creating more employment. Technology also gives rise to new innovations and it helps in various discoveries.- It plays a pivotal role in developing a country’s economy and also their mind-sets.- Technology gives a man power to be equivalent to a machine.- Inhouse technology helps in getting the country name and fame on international platform.- Improvement in technology today means less dependence on other countries in future.

Technology works as a catalyst in the growth of a country, it bridges the income gap between the poor and the rich by creating employment opportunities but due to the less use of technology in India it is seen as an income disparity. In this modern world where ‘Time is Money’, makes one’s life simple. Thus technology does not create income disparity rather helps in removing it.

Celebrities should be welcomed in politics.Group Discussion 06-18-2012 04:34 AM

For

- They attract a mass following and can sway public opinion in the right direction.

- The celebrities have been successful in their respective field and have the right ethics required being successful in politics.

- Celebrities can do a lot for the welfare of the people as they also live in amongst the common people.

- They have the power to persuade or convince the majority to work in favor of development of the country.

- They have a huge fan following which only makes it easier for them to operate.

Against

- Whether it is Govinda or any other actor for that matter, no one’s attendance has been up to the mark in parliament.

- No one has really raised a particular issue, which has worked in the favor of the nation.

- If you were to analyze the achievements of the actors present in politics, it has been close to negligible.

- They are already so engrossed in their lives, that it has been seen over the years that they don’t have the political mind frame to perform in politics.

Winning is what matters, whatever may be the costGroup Discussion 06-18-2012 03:42 AM

We all want to win. Whether it’s our professional lives or personal, we all like to win. What makes us win should be our ability and attitude. However, some people think differently. For them, winning is what matters the most. They don’t care about what winning may cost them in future.

For:

- With the competition we all experience today, winning is what matters.

Page 14: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

- When people have no choice, they have to win- regardless of the cost.

- Winning makes you strong. It gives you a sense of confidence.

- Winning makes you competitive. Eventually, that helps you overcome the cost.

Against:

- Winning without evaluation the circumstances makes us blind, mentally. We start to overlook our ethics.

- If you are at a superior position or serving the country, you have to consider the cost at which you win something.

- At times, in the zeal of winning, we land up incurring a loss to others.

- Most of the times because we want to win, we land up lying. Because of this, we face the consequences later.

- Winning makes you successful. So, when customers approach a company, they don’t only see how successful you are but, they also see the route that was taken.

Ever since we are born, we are asked to be ethical and not part with our values. In the era we live today, it is difficult to sustain our ethics and progress. While success is important and winning makes us successful, we should try evaluating the consequences of how we are winning. In the bargain, we shouldn’t break the law.

B-Schools should aim at creating entrepreneurs rather than managers.Hemant Sharma 12-30-2011 05:52 AM

Entrepreneurs bring in change whereas managers continue to work on this change and develop it further. Innovators and entrepreneurs are needed when there is accelerated change in the organizations whereas managers are required to work aptly for the benefit of the organization in a more stable environment.

For

- Entrepreneurs are the basic necessity of a country like India because they are the ones who generate employment.- Entrepreneurs can be a good manager but a manager can or cannot be an entrepreneur.- Entrepreneurship is the key to reviving the economy of India. It also contributes to the revival of the social environment. - Poverty and unemployment can only be alleviated by creating opportunities and it is entrepreneurs work to do.- For proper functioning and maintaining the balance in the society, social innovators and entrepreneurs are the need of the hour.- Managers are the job seekers, they don’t create opportunities rather they grab them.- India hardly has any established products in the international market, it is the entrepreneurs who can have a vision to produce them.

Against

- Managers work towards the maintenance of the organization and that is why they form a vital part of the society.- Managers secure the future by managing and controlling the infrastructure and systems needed for the country’s proper functioning.- Entrepreneur needs startup money i.e. they require more money to establish.- Managers are well educated and they work for the welfare of the organization.- To lure more and more foreign companies to set up their offices in India, we need trained managers to manage their work.

Entrepreneurs and managers are the two sides of the same coin. A country like India wont taste success until and unless, entrepreneurs and mangers start to work towards the same goal. Entrepreneurs lay the foundation on which

the managers shape up the business. But Business schools should pay more attention on making people self employed rather than training them to be job beggars.

A room without books is like a body without soul.Hemant Sharma 12-30-2011 06:37 AM

For

- Books are vast sources of knowledge. They are sacred as well as holy.- They form one’s conscience and help people develop their notion of right and wrong.- Soul of a body prevents the being from becoming a savage or cannibal. In the same way books bring virtue to a structure or room.- Books play a vital role in one’s education and constitute a major part in one’s life.

Against- A room is a non-living object, contrary to the living body, the simile is thus erroneous.- There are good books, there are bad books. Why should it be assumed that the soul, even if there is one, is chaste and pure?- Books are inventions of authors but a soul can’t be imparted from a body.

This simile is an erroneous one as the comparison is made between a living and non living thing. Both have their own part to play in one’s life. Books are a great medium of knowledge but it should not be compared with intellectual stuff like body and soul.

Increasing no. of Engineering Colleges is a boon to the society.Rajani Sharma 01-2-2012 05:38 AM

For- Yes, increasing number of Engineering Colleges is a boon to the society as they provide a platform for the intellectual people of the country.- As there is an increase in the number of Engineering Colleges students can get various options to pursue their desired area. - Engineering college increases the efficiency of the students by honing their skills which is better for their personality development.- They make more people employable.

Against- Increase in number of Engineering Colleges does not guarantee the quality of engineers India requires today.- The number of Engineering Colleges is increasing but the number of job vacancies has decreased proportionately creating a dearth of jobs.- India’s literacy rate is decreasing and people need more primary education as they cannot afford the luxuries of the engineering college, imparting primary education would mean more educated people.- Rather than focussing on the number of Engineering, the target should be the qulity of education imparted, trainer to student ratio. - Focussing on increasing number of engineering colleges means not training the people in other fields.

It is true that engineering colleges are the need of the hour as they hone the skills of the students making them a powerful asset for India. But the other fact is that 63% of the population is still illiterate. It is only making the coming time worse for India. People should be imparted primary education which would result in more educated young men and women, which in turn will help in overall development of the country. We should also focus on training our population in various fields so that it is not an unbalanced growth.

Educated Indians lack national commitment.

Page 16: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

Rajani Sharma 01-2-2012 04:16 AM

Every one of us has a set priorities in which education is on the top of the list. After getting high education we need a good job with a good package. We spend our whole life in making and fulfilling a want list. While juggling between all these, we do not have time to think about the country. How can we commit ourselves to the nation then? There are number of people who understand their responsibilities towards the nation and many just don’t care.

For

- Education opens up many avenues for the people. After getting highly educated most of the Indians desire to go abroad for high salary and luxurious life.- Our country needs them the most as we are a developing country and need them for development of our country.- Educated people forget that they will never get the status they would get in their own country.- Millions of rupees are spent on their education and when it is their time to repay it to their country they go out. - In India, the number of people is increasing who are emigrating for further studies and settle down there with a good job.- People who want a hassle free life also plan to go abroad.- They are busy with their own lives, in making money, making a good career for themselves.

Against- People go out for better jobs but this doesn’t mean that they are not loyal to their countries.- They are making their country proud by working overseas.- They are the reason that India could be connected globally and is making significant progress in the global market.- Most of the Indians transfer their hard earned foreign currency to their banks in India - increasing the flow of foreign capital in the country. - The educated Indians earning big salaries are the biggest payers of income taxes to the government - contributing to the overall development of country. - Education makes a person more responsible for himself and for his nation.

The Indians are more committed towards their country and its people. They are very much aware of the situations in which they are living and how they are affecting them and the nation. The coming generation is coming in front to take India to a new level of success. A responsible citizen should not ask what the country has given to me rather he should question himself - what have I given to the country?

A university is what a college becomes when the faculty loses interest in teaching the students - Group DiscussionGroup Discussion 06-26-2012 01:11 AM

We all attended colleges with the hopes of learning something and realizing our career paths. The people who we rely upon are our teachers. They say that the essence of a college is lost when the teachers lose interest in teaching their student, similar to what a university does.

For:

- Usually in universities, professors are involved in so much and paid less that they lose their interest in teaching. This happens in colleges too.

- Most colleges have no facilities for the teachers. This makes their job monotonous as there is no recreation.

- In India especially, because of the nature of the education system we have, teachers can’t think anything beyond marks.

- Because of the teaching mechanism, usually the students also lose interest that influences the teachers.

Page 17: TV Commercials Should Be Banned

- The quality of faculty we see in colleges and universities are the same. This is why only some colleges are renowned than the other. Both universities and colleges don’t have an exhaustive screening before appointing a faculty.

Against:

- This is not true for renowned colleges like the IIM’s and IIT’s where the teachers are extremely educated and passionate.

- A teacher’s passion is to teach and awaken interest in their students. This cannot be lost.

- A university has its own standard, policies and procedures. A college is a subset of a university and hence can never be compared.

- A university has much beyond teaching to take care of. So, if the faculty loses interest in teaching, we cannot compare it to a college.

Regardless of whether are pursuing a course from a University or a college, we look upon our teachers. The education systems should be improved in a way that it creates interest in both faculty and the students. Education is not just about marks. If some recreational facilities are arranged for teachers and students, it may help establish a unique relationship.

acebooking : A time pass actitivity - Group DiscussionGroup Discussion 06-27-2012 06:36 AM

Facebooking - Time pass actitivity.

For

- It definitely is a time pass activity as it contains lots of fun activities, like games that are used by people on a regular basis to get out of their boredom.

- Being a social networking site it is just a means of communication where people can make new friends or connect with long lost friends.

- People become so addictive towards it that they spend most of their time socializing via facebook.

- People meet new people; make new relationships through this network which increases the healthy interactions among them.

Against

- Individuals connect through facebook to their co-workers or colleagues which helps them to remain up to date.

- Facebook is used to advertise products which are relatively new in the market and can be easily purchased through facebook.

- It is good way to update people about the recent events taking place nearby or in the world.

- Facebook being a quick and effective way of communicating (people separated by time zones) can not be termed as a time pass activity.
