TV news conventions.I’m going to talk about all the TV news conventions and what effect they have on the viewers.

Headlines

is very common for any news channel to have headlines, then they will pick one headline and talk about it, and have few seconds break to introduce all the other headlines talk about the time they will come on.

Visual coding

Visual coding it’s important to have in news because you need to see the big table or the person standing up next to the big screen showing images that’s how you know its news. So usually you would see so many computers at the back and people working on it, and see the person that’s introducing the news talking and wearing smart clothing looking professional that’s the visual coding for news.

Mid shot

You would often see the person who is introducing the news and talking about is sitting down and it would be a mid-shot, you can see her facial expressions and you have lots of TVs and other computer behind the person speaking,

showing that’s everyone is trying to get the latest news and it just looks professional and the expectation of news.

Representation to be professional and serious, talk formal throughout the broadcast.

Interviews

Having interviews during the news is good because it makes you feel like you’re getting the latest news, also have professionals talking about the situation is very reliable , and usually they would have someone speaking directly from the event live.

Titles to tell us names Is an easy way to put information on the screen on who the person is and what is their position.

L cuts over visuals

Makes it more reliable for example a doctor wearing he’s uniform in a hospital is more believable and realistic.

Music at the beginning Grabs people attention it’s like a theme that they have, so when you hear it you know it’s the news and that it’s important the music shows seriousness, and is something people can recognize quickly.

Formal you have to dress smart and look really professional that’s the acceptation to be in the TV news, so people can take you serious.

Anonymising faces people that don’t want to show their face on TV their blur faces and you can just hear the voice, this shows that the TV news respect the public wishes.

Archival footage

When people talk about a topic they would being out an old footages to show evidence or historical events or add detail without the need for additional filming.

Headlines One of the big conventions on TV news is headline, they would usually start the news by showing all headlines this helps the viewers because it tells them all the big news that’s happening in the world right that minute then sometimes they would have breaking news, on the screen to show people that important news came in.

Photos- slow zooms they use slow zooms to show the details of the picture and people can see it clearly they often zoom in and out so they audience can see the whole picture.

Additional information provided visually they would give you extra information for those people who are interested

more on the topic, for example sports news, they would have match of the day to show people all the sports news they have missed.
