Joe Romeiro and Bill Fisher, who are new to underwater/natural history film-making, have been fascinated by sharks all their lives. Over the past couple of years, the two decided to combine their creative talents by meshing their video footage with crisp sound and narration. This became a priceless gift for their friends and fellow artists. As shark ad-vocates they were also aware of the harrow-ing need to protect sharks from the hideous effects of longlining, shark finning, trophy sport fishing, by-catch and so many more threats to sharks. They realized they needed to do more than make personal videos. Over the past year Joe and Bill captured hours of footage in order to create a short shark documentary called Death of a Deity. In the process they risked life and limb filming shark abusers in action, traveled to far-reaching places in search of hard-to-find sharks, and invested their time, money and hearts into creating an educational and visually-stunning documentary. Their pur-pose from the beginning was to produce a film that focuses on the facts, science and splen-dor of one of Earth’s most mysterious crea-tures without fabricating scenarios or inciting aggressive animal behavior to draw ratings and hysteria. True to form, death of a Dei-ty simply, yet hauntingly, demonstrates the beauty, power and grace of sharks, as well their unconscionable fight for survival. - Heidi DeRosa

CATHY CHURCH “TIPS AND TRICKS”

Located on beautiful the Island of Grand Caymen, lays the world famous Sunset House, inside you will be wel-comed to the wonderful world of Cathy Church. Here she offers everything from equipment sales and pro photo

services to personal instruction and worldwide trips.

We here at Dive Zero would like to applaud Cathy for her efforts toward the Environment and of course for her 40+ years of giving us some of the best underwater shots the planet has ever seen. We would also like to thank Cathy for involving her self with Dive Zero and the Dive Village’s photo contest. Every week or so Cathy supplies tips and

tricks for the underwater enthusiast. Every month we will adding one here. visit the Cathy Church website

TIP # 1 Does your photo encourage your viewer to look immediately at your main point of interest?

When a person looks at a photo, their eyes are first drawn to five aspects:1. The Brightest2. Most colorful3. Most contrasty4. Sharpest5. Eyes--if the subject has eyes

A great photo is often where all of these aspects converge at the main point of interest. A distracting photo is one where these areas conflict. For example, if the blurry foreground is also the most brightly lit by your strobe you don't know if the bright area is the main point of interest. You now have to search the darker areas for what you assume should be the main point of interest. Or, is the more colorful red sponge background more important than your black nudibranch.

Look at the contest photos and ask yourself for each one--where are the eyes, and the bright, colorful, sharp, contrasty ar-eas. Do they lead you to what you feel should be the main point of interest? If there is no bright, colorful, sharp, contrasty areas or eyes, is there some other feature that makes up for that? It is hard for a photo to be great without some or all of these aspects.

Give a vote for each part of the subject that has one of these aspects. If each aspect is in a DIFFERENT part of the subject, it creates too much confusion. If the main part of the image gets three votes or more, it has a better chance of being good.

There are many other elements to a great photo, but, disregarding the rarity of the subject, tying these areas together will give you a starting point on evaluating a good photo. The Dive Village”s Photo Contest with Cathy Church

DIVE DESTINATION “JOST VAN DYKE”

JOST VAN DYKE, four miles long, is truly the "barefoot" island known by travelers around the

world for its casual lifestyle, protected anchorages, fine beaches and beachfront restaurants and

bars. Picture-postcard tropical isles, like Green Cay and Sandy Spit seen above, send an invita-

tion to a special place.

Sunsets on Jost Van Dyke, BVI

The true “barefoot” Island

Diving Jost Van Dyke is one of those things that you least expect to enjoy, you think”just another dive”...man would you be wrong! Luke and I headed out to Jost to dive with Collin Aldridge (left) of Jost Van Dyke Scuba and Eco Tours, and it turned out to be one of the best dive trips i have ever experienced, not so much be-

cause the water was just the right temperature or the vis was 100 ft plus, sure the marine life was over the top, but the reason I loved the JVD trip was because of the man they called the “Captain”. “Captain” Collins way of dealing with the dives were certainly the best i have seen, his experience with the Eco system was top grade and man o man was he ever a lot of fun. We filmed a Eco Tour with a family from New York that Collin took to the world famous baths, dove a Pirate ship that was never shot or filmed before, then ended up diving bait balls that must have had millions of schooling fish. Something else that I seriously liked about Collin is he is a “Family man”, very dedicated to his wife and kids, family first. He shared stories of his past that kept you glued to him, wanting to hearing more, stories about real time pirates and sur-viving deadly spider bites! If your after REAL diving, WILD WEST STYLE...hook up with JVD Scuba in the BVI. To watch this man in action make sure to hit up Dive Zero TV and the DAY IN THE LIFE channel, here we tell Collins story of what it REALLY takes to be Caribbean Dive Shop owner. Also check out his web site at www.jostvandykescuba.com and make sure to say the Dive Zero sent ya...never know, he may just ask you in for dinner with his family!

Want to become Australia's next Scuba Guru?

Do you have footage and want it seen on Dive Zero TV?

For the past few months, I have been on the hunt for videos, not just any videos, but quality commercials. ads, or short movies about our Sharks. We all know there is a problem, I read about everyones displeasure all the time on Facebook, there must be a million zillion backers out there. Finning, long-lineing, poaching, over hunting and the list goes on.But I find this a bit confusing, why you ask? I must have emailed 1500 groups to support me in creating a dedicated channel to aid in the survival of sharks, a channel where

videographers can have there statement put out for the world to see and hear. How many replied... NONE! Everyone had a video or two, or new someone who did but yet when it came to doing just a bit or work to uploading a video, the person(s) were never heard from again! Are we posers, just wishing that things will

get better, close our eyes and magically, the shark population will be where it should be!

Help us, help you make a difference, send us your shark ads, commercials and short movies today!email me at [email protected] to get the info on uploading

WHO IS DIVE ZERO & SUBMISSIONS

Who Is Dive Zero...Managing Director

Wally SchredlFor the past 18 years, This guy has been a full time Professional Diver, traveling the world, and living in Grand Cayman for over 7 years. Becoming one of the top PADI Plati-num Course Directors on the planet. Wally created and operated a very successful dive

instructor college program in Canada and the Cayman Islands. He's done it all... an accomplished U/W photographer and videographer, Boat Captain, Dive Operations Manager, Free Diver, Spear-fisherman, Shark, Stingray and harbor seal wrestler (he is even known to feed 6ft green morays from his teeth)

Executive ProducerRob Lysak

Rob started off filming snowboarding and extreme sports in the snowy hills of the southern Albertan Rockies at Castle Mountain Ski Resort. Since then, he has added onto his extreme sports film-ing list with freestyle motocrossing and producing a skateboard video, which sold in 5 different con-tinents across the world. He has now brought his experience of filming and editing for the past 20 years, over to scuba diving. The sport of scuba

diving should be thanking Rob for his creativity and new angles that he has brought to the sport. Robs also a very accomplished underwater photogra-pher as well.

Director of OperationsLuke Boychuk

Growing up as a sponsored skateboarder, after high school, Luke decided to change his life com-pletely 180 degrees around. He decided to be-come a scuba instructor. After completing the course, he decided that he would take up under-water filming instead. He came up with the idea of Dive Zero in late 2005, and has worked on it al-most everyday since. The whole idea was to bring to scuba diving, what skateboarding, snowboard-ing and every other extreme sport has - a life-

style. When Luke is not working on Dive Zero, scuba diving, traveling, and getting through everyday scenarios that life brings, he still  manages to find time to skateboard for his sponsors.
