Marmaray railways line safety assessment, Turkey

Our solution

TÜV SÜD services

• The Marmaray project links the Asian and the

European side of Turkey. An immersed tunnel

beneath the Bosporus channel at a depth of

65 m now connects the two densely populated

areas of the metropolis Istanbul within four

minutes.

• TÜV SÜD Rail was involved in the safety

assessment at system and subsystem level

following EN 50126.

• System Independent Safety Assessment (S-

ISA) of CR3, BC1: The assessment is related

to the following subsystems: permanent way,

under structure (geological and seismic), civil

Our solution

TÜV SÜD Rail carried out the Independent

Safety Assessment (ISA) from project start

(concept, risk analysis) to placing into revenue

service. From a rolling-stock design viewpoint,

the focus was on integration with wayside

systems and operational provisions.
