Fortitude

Sunday, 22 February 2015

After an invite to dinner, Vincent Rattrey (Luke Treadaway) is found at the scene of Prof. Charlie Stoddart's (Christopher Eccleston) murder, and is placed under arrest while Sheriff Dan Anderssen (Richard Dormer) and his team work on the crime scene.

Meanwhile Fortitude's governor, Hildur Odegard (Sofie Gråbøl), has to keep news of the murder from her glacier hotel investors.

When Dan's estranged friend Henry (Michael Gambon) hears of the murder, he contacts the British police, and DCI Eugene Morton (Stanley Tucci) arrives only a few hours after the murder - much to the disquiet of Dan and the governor.

Frank (Nicholas Pinnock) and Jules (Jessica Raine) Sutter's son Liam, who has been ill in bed, develops frostbite. Puzzled at this development, Jules decides that Frank must have left him alone - and the only reason he would do something like that would be because he was having an affair. They're offered a course of experimental treatment for Liam's frostbite. Jules accepts, and Liam is sedated and placed inside a hyperbaric chamber in the research centre.

Having been banished from the crime scene by the sheriff, DCI Morton takes it upon himself to inform Charlie Stoddart's wife of his death, and then takes over the post mortem.

Vincent suddenly realises that Natalie was invited to dinner at the professor's house as well, but a search of her house reveals signs that Natalie has packed to leave town. Dan initiates a search for the missing woman.

Inside The Commons

Tuesday, 24 February 2015 New SeriesAward winning reporter Michael Cockerell presents a four-part documentary series from inside the House Of Commons - filming in places where cameras are normally forbidden and with unprecedented access.

Travelling deep inside the corridors of the Palace of Westminster this series reveals what really went on behind the scenes during a remarkable year in politics, in the run up to one of the most unpredictable General Elections ever.

Inside the Commons follows Ministers and MPs, high and low, as they seek to navigate the machinery of the House, to make the laws and fight their constituents’ battles. From the keeper of Big Ben, the Hawker responsible for keeping pigeons off the 19th century stonework and the gospel-singing tea lady of the Members’ Tea Room, Inside the Commons will also introduce you to the people who keep the Commons working - and it’s no easy task. From crumbling stonework to leaky roofs, the series shows the challenges faced as staff strive to keep the country’s most iconic and historic building functioning as a modern parliament.

In the first episode we follow two female MPs - Charlotte Leslie, Conservative MP for Bristol North West, and Sarah Champion, Labour MP for Rotherham - learning the arcane ways of the House. We hear from those at the top of political tree, including Prime Minister David Cameron and Leader of the Opposition Ed Miliband, who reveal what happens at Prime Ministers Questions. We also see behind the scenes of one of the most important days in the Parliamentary calendar, the Budget, and we follow the Commons most powerful official, the Clerk of the House, Sir Robert Rogers, whose job is to keep the whole show on the road.

This rare glimpse into the weird and wonderful world of Westminster - with its two thousand rooms, 110 staircases and miles of corridors - asks if Parliament is fit for purpose in the 21st century. It reveals the heart of British democracy as never seen before.

Judith Lucy Is All Woman

Wednesday, 25 February 2015

Judith Lucy doesn't have kids. Her desire to have them lasted about a nanosecond. But with motherhood intrinsic in so many women's lives, she's keen to get a taste of what it could be like, and takes charge of her very own baby - a plastic, African American robot child named Lucy Junior. Lucy Junior needs diligent care, but will Judith pass the test and be a good mum?

Keeping a baby fed and watered is one thing, but what about juggling a stack of kids? When a brave stay-at-home mother of five lets Judith swap places with her - fingers crossed that they all come out of it alive.

As Judith gets the scoop from her funny lady friends Denise Scott, Kaz Cooke and Nelly Thomas about balancing careers and motherhood, she gets an insight from Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on the changing idea of families and the notion of ‘having it all’.

Meanwhile, Judith meets a group of stay-at-home dads who are defying stereotypes and finding it's not that easy when the boot's on the other foot, and the battle of the sexes resumes as Judith Lucy and Mick Molloy go head to head in a titanic quest to see which sex will be crowned the winner at ... assembling IKEA furniture.

Experience just how different a life-threatening crisis can be in one of the most isolated locations on earth. Outback ER is a new 8 x half hours series screening Thursdays at 8pm on ABC.

Accidents involving wildlife aren't uncommon in Broken Hill's emergency department, but staff are surprised when two separate motorbike accidents arrive at the same time - both involving iconic Australian animals.

While the ED staff attend to his injuries paramedics bring in Logan, another motorcyclist critically injured after hitting a kangaroo at over 100km/h.

Seventy-four year-old Joan is rushed to hospital after a sudden deterioration in health. She is unresponsive to treatment, her mysterious illness completely baffling the doctors. Joan's daughter keeps a bedside vigil.Kirsti has a migraine, something she's dealt with since her teens when life was very different. Back then she was male. As a man, Kirsti married and had three kids, but at the age of 33 while employed as a maximum security jail officer she had a sex change. Now Kirsti is a taxi driver in Broken Hill where she feels accepted for who she really is.

Thursday, 26 February 2015

Pinder (Stephen Curry) continues to press Lincoln (James Stewart) for information about Koz’s (Nathan Page) criminal activities, but Lincoln refuses to implicate his best mate and brother-in-law. Koz and his wife Dimity (Jodi Gordon) are expecting their first child, and leaving them behind was the hardest part of escaping Queensland. Bec (Kate Jenkinson) is longing to phone them, but can't.

Finally Pinder reveals it was Koz who financed an attempt on Lincoln's life. Lincoln is deeply shocked by the news, but keeps it secret from Bec.Bec is struggling to cope with the drunk, crazy and extremely demanding Warwick (Kim Gyngell), and is desperate to get a job. After several knock-backs she contacts a medical colleague from Queensland, Ash Adamo (Ryan Johnson), who is now living and working in Sydney.

Mitch's (Lincoln Younes) homesickness for the Gold Coast and longing for his girlfriend Kelly has become unbearable. With no thought for the consequences, he packs a bag, leaves a note for Tara (Olivia DeJonge), and disappears.

Tara keeps Mitchell's secret for as long as she can... until Bec eventually cracks his alibi, and Tara is forced to admit he has done a runner back to the belly of the beast. Lincoln and Bec are shattered and fear for their son's safety.

Lincoln risks everything and returns to Queensland to search for Mitchell. Finding him will be the easy part; the challenge will be trying to stay alive in a place ruled by the men who are determined to see him dead.

How We Got To Now: Clean

Thursday, 26 February 2015 New SeriesThis inspirational and entertaining series presented by world-renowned innovation expert Steven Johnson charts the twists and turns of history, science, business and technology that have brought us to where we are today.

In the first episode, Steven explores the technology of Clean.

Dirty water has killed more humans than all the wars of history combined, but in the last 150 years a series of radical ideas, extraordinary innovations and unsung heroes have changed our world and the very way we live our lives.

Steven takes a plunge into a sewer to understand what made one maverick engineer decide to lift the entire city of Chicago with screw jacks in order to build America's first sewer system underneath it. Houses, shops and hotels are raised 10ft high while business continues as usual.

While on a waterslide Steven tells us about John Leal and how he deliberately poisoned the water supply of 200,000 people but transformed the way we live. In 1908 the consensus was that chlorine was lethal but he believed differently. Without authorisation Leal added it into the city's water and made it safe to drink. Imagine if it hadn't worked? It would have been written into the history books as mass murder.

This isn't just about the world becoming a cleaner place. The iphone, the subway, flat screen TVs and even the bikini are the result of the valiant efforts of the unsung heroes of clean.

Grantchester

Saturday, 28 February 2015 New SeriesIt 1953, and Sidney Chambers (James Norton) is vicar of Grantchester, a village just outside Cambridge. Sidney's is a quiet life. Or at least, it has been - right up until the moment that murder comes his way...

Joining Sidney as he journeys into this dark world is the affable but world-weary Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green). They are partners in crime and forge a true friendship as each offers a different insight into the crimes they begin to unravel.

Sidney Chambers has lost track of time, having spent a glorious morning with his fun-loving friend (and the woman with whom he is secretly in love) Amanda Kendall (Morvern Christie). Racing to church, Sidney arrives just in time to minister at the funeral of a local solicitor, although his poor time-keeping earns the disapproval of his punctilious housekeeper Mrs Maguire (Tessa Peake-Jones).

With the death a suicide, Sidney does his best to comfort young German widow Hildegard Staunton (Pheline Roggan), but is soon called away from his normal duties when the glamorous Pamela Morton (Rachel Shelley) asks to draw Sidney into her confidence. She reveals that she was having an affair with the late solicitor - and that far from being a suicide, she has reasons to believe that he was in fact murdered.

With Pamela unable to go to the police, she asks Sidney if he would be able to look into the matter for her - after all, people confide in vicars, don't they? However, Sidney's investigation quickly draws him to the attention of DI Geordie Keating (Robson Green), who doesn't really appreciate the clergyman sticking his nose into things he doesn't understand. But Sidney isn't to be shaken off too easily - particularly when he begins to uncover evidence that the suicide was staged.

However, whilst Sidney is focused on getting to the bottom of the alleged murder, his own world is shaken apart when he receives news that Amanda has become engaged - it seems that Sidney has missed his moment. With his heart breaking, and his theory about the murder seemingly coming up short, will Sidney be able to work out who killed the solicitor before the killer strikes again?
