TVG 300 / TVG 370 / TVG 660Variance Summary

Introduction 1

Welcome to your Trimble solution, which uses either the TVG 300 or the TVG 370. The TVG 370 is currently available in the European Union and North America. The TVG 300 is available in North America only. Both the TVG 300 and the TVG 370 are low-cost, self-install “plug and play” versions of the TVG, and as such there are some differences between how the two hardware devices function, particularly when viewing TVG 300 or TVG 370 data alongside TVG 660 data. This document provides an overview of the key differences between the TVG 660 and the TVG 300 / TVG 370 hardware platforms.

Speed exception

■ Can configure the monitoring periods during which the exception triggers (e.g. recurring, 24x7).

■ The Speed exception will alert as soon as the speed threshold has been reached, and when the speeding event finishes.

■ Maximum Speed of the event is also shown (for example, "Exception = 75 MPH, Max Speed = 78 MPH").

■ Although the user can configure the monitoring periods on the screen, the exception defaults to 24x7.

■ The Speed exception will alert as soon as the speed threshold has been reached, and when the speeding event finishes, but the Maximum Speed will be shown as 'N/A'.

■ In the Exception Console, the Maximum Speed will be shown as the speed entered in the Exception Screen (for example, "Exception = 80 MPH, Max Speed => 80 MPH").

Idling exception

■ Can configure the monitoring periods during which the exception triggers (for example, recurring, 24x7).

■ Although the user can configure the monitoring periods on the screen, the exception defaults to 24x7.

■ The user can configure the idle time threshold for triggering the exception.

■ Although the user can configure the monitoring periods on the screen, the exception defaults to 24x7.

■ The device defaults idle duration to 2 minutes regardless of the duration set in the exception. In addition, the real time alert (exception) is sent when 2 minutes is exceeded and a second alert when the idling event ends with the total duration of the idle.

■ The exception report only reports the consolidated idling data

Diagnostic Fault exception

■ Device sends back multiple instances of the same fault code (if it still persists on the vehicle network).

■ Exception report contains Odometer value.

Low Battery exception

■ Device sends back a Low Battery alert as soon as the detected battery voltage falls below a pre-set safety threshold for a configurable period (minimum 15 minutes).

■ Can configure the time periods during which the exception triggers (for example, recurring, 24x7).

■ After low battery event, device goes into low power mode (consuming around 10 mA).

■ Device sends back a Low Battery alert 10 minutes (fixed) after the detected battery voltage falls below 12 V for a configurable period (a minimum of 15 minutes, which equates to a minimum delay of 25 minutes).

■ Although the user can configure the time periods on the screen, the exception defaults to 24x7.

■ After a low-battery event, device keeps drawing around 20 mA until the battery voltage goes down to about 6 V, at which point it will switch to its internal battery and generate a “Disconnected” event.

Driver Safety Hard Brake exception

Available (depending on package).

In the Driver Safety Hard Brake Exception Notification, the End Speed is displayed, but the Start Speed is shown as “N/A”.NOTE: The TVG 370 is more sensitive than other devices, which results in different safety scores (typically up to 20% lower). We recommend that customers use a different safety profile for TVG 370 devices.

Turning events are not supported. An error message appears if a Driver Safety profile containing a Turning weighting in the overall score calculation is applied to these devices. In the Driver Safety Hard Brake Exception Notification, the End Speed is displayed, but the Start Speed is shown as “N/A”.

Odometer Report

Supported. The Odometer value is entered into the device by the installer at the point of installation, or read directly from the bus, where available. The Odometer value is preserved when the firmware is upgraded.

■ The Odometer value cannot be entered by the installer at the point of installation.

■ The Customer Administrator can update individual odometer values in the system via the Administration > Devices > Vehicle Maintenance > Update Mileage / Purchase Date menu, and updating the odometer value in the New Mileage column.

■ The odometer correction only applies to the Odometer Report. DirectData and APIs will continue to report incorrect data.

■ The device does not automatically fall back from bus to speed to GPS. This has to be carried out by the server, which can lead to problems in some corner cases.

■ If the device is unplugged (and not plugged back in before losing internal battery power), the Odometer value will reset to zero (as it is not stored on the device) and will need to be reset as described above.

■ The Odometer value will reset to zero if the firmware is upgraded.
