Dear Parishioners,
Our revamped Parish Country Fair is coming up next weekend! If you are not a regular attendee, would you consider coming this year to support our parish? It’s a fun event and an opportunity, to eat, drink, be entertained and experience fellowship with other Holy Family folks. All the priests will be in attendance and we look forward to hanging out with you at our annual Parish Country Fair!
Coming up is ALL SAINTS DAY on Thursday, November 1st. This is a holy day of obligation. We will have our regular holy day schedule with the following Masses: Wednesday, October 31, 5:30 PM vigil and then Thursday, November 1 at 6:30 AM, 8 AM, 10 AM (Schools), 12:15 PM, 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM (Spanish).
The next day is Friday, November 2nd and the church celebrates ALL SOULS DAY on that day with our regular 6:30 AM, 8 AM and 5:30 PM Mass schedule. (This is not a holy day of obligation.)
Please keep in mind that we will be celebrating our special annual All Souls Mass for all the deceased, especially those who have died in the last 12 months, at the Saturday, November 3rd 5:30 PM Mass.
If you are a parent of a high school teenager, please consider our life changing annual Life Teen retreat for all high school teens. Yes, life changing. It can make a huge difference in the faith life of your child. Remember: when you have your child baptized, you are agreeing to raise them in the faith and to do your best to ensure that they get to heaven. This is an opportunity that you do not want to pass up. Life is short. Eternity is forever. Our annual Life Teen retreat is coming up November 9-11 at Camp Mt. Crags in Calabasas/Malibu. What’s more important: the latest iPhone, a fancy car or a teenager who stays firmly grounded in his or her faith? An iPhone lasts a few years. A car lasts for a few years more. Heaven lasts for eternity. We are grateful to have a terrific program here and dynamic youth ministers, Zack and Brandon and a dynamic core team who give their all. Don’t miss out!
Let’s continue to pray for our church and church leaders. The news reports are sad, sad, sad. May the Holy Spirit take over in a radical way so that there is greater transparency on all levels and that all people, children and adults, are protected in a radical way. Please be assured that at Holy Family we have security cameras everywhere, a strong and vibrant Safeguard the Children committee and that we follow all the norms and protocols to protect our most vulnerable.
Thank you to all of you who support Holy Family in so many ways. You are a blessing to me. For your presence, your prayers, your gentle attitudes, your helpfulness … thank you!!
Autumn blessings –
Fr. Jim Bevacqua, Pastor 818-247-2222 x225, [email protected]

TORONA DOCTORS LAY OUT PROCEDURES FOR EUTHANASIA FOR CHILDREN
In a prestigious medical journal, doctors from Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children have laid out policies and procedures for administering medically assisted death to children, including scenarios where the parents would not be informed until after the child dies.
The article appears just three months before the Canadian Council of Acad-emies is due to report to Parliament on the medical consensus about ex-tending voluntary euthanasia in circumstances currently forbidden by law. The Canadian Council of Academies is specifically looking at extending so-called assisted dying to patients under 18, psychiatric patients and patients who have expressed a preference for euthanasia before they were ren-dered incapable by Alzheimer's or some other disease.
The Sept. 21 paper written by Sick Kids doctors, administrators and ethicists was published in the British Medical Journal's J Med Ethics and backed by the University of Toronto's Joint Centre for Bioethics.
In a flowchart that outlines how a medically induced death would occur at Sick Kids, authors Carey DeMichelis, Randi Zlotnik Shaul and Adam Rapoport do not mention conversation with family or parents about how the child dies until after the death occurs in the "reflection period." - Angelus News

Church leaders must face truth of abuse, Cardinal DiNardo says
The resident of the U.S. bishops' conference welcomed Pope Francis' pledge to fight attempts to cover up cases of sexual abuse and to stop offering special treatment to bishops who have committed or covered up abuse. "On behalf of my brother bishops in the United States, I welcome the statement of Oct. 6 from the Holy See which outlines additional steps Pope Francis is taking to ensure the faithful are protected from the evil of sexual assault," Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo said in a statement released Oct. 7 in Rome. The cardinal, president of the USCCB, is in Rome for the Synod of Bishops. Arch-bishop Jose H. Gomez of Los Angeles, conference vice president, also is in Rome for the synod, and the two U.S. leaders were expected to meet privately with Pope Francis Oct. 8 as questions continue over the handling of years of allega-tions of sexual misconduct by former Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick of Washing-ton. - Angelus News
