COMPLIANCE AND CHANGE

It’s great to remind ourselves how far we have come, but at the same time it’s appropriate to consider the dynamic and stark rate of change we experience and its potential impact on our most important values and on our commitment to compliance. To remain vigilant and differentiated in our compliance program we rely on our established systems and processes that support continuous awareness, learning, and dialogue. New employee and supplier training, reporting and communications protocols, formal oversight & awareness – all form the backbone of a compliance culture that remains strong even during times of change.

With this in mind, I ask you to consider the importance of a structured approach to managing compliance. Take inventory of the tools and processes available to you, and ask your supervisor or peers if there is anything you need or do not understand. Take our training and systems seriously, and commit to understanding and facilitating the same for all employees that join our company.

When I look back over the past 10 years plus I have spent with TWI, it’s remarkable to me what we have accomplished together as a team and

how we all have developed in many different ways. Equally amazing is how much has changed during that growth & development. We’ve entered entirely new markets, brought in new employees and suppliers, and have stood up new operations in places we might not ever have expected.

IRAQ COPES WITH SECURITY ISSUES

One specific market, oil and gas, saw a drastic number of drilling and exploration companies withdraw their personnel for precautionary purposes. Following the steady flow of key players leaving the local market, more and more drilling rigs and oilfields were experiencing a significant amount of downtime. Even companies that continued operations throughout the security issues experienced a decrease in production due to the lack of resources and quality equipment as the local supplier market was quickly fading. With increasing amounts of rig downtime, production schedules and costs were aggressively expanding. Throughout the growing issues in Iraq, Safar Oilfield Services has provided committed and unwavering support for its extensive customer base. With its 2,000 square meter warehouse fully stocked, Safar was able to safely and quickly deliver critical oilfield supplies and equipment to local drilling customers, ensuring they have one less thing to worry about. As a highlight of Safar’s support of the local market and community, in recent weeks the team in Erbil helped source and deliver critical water and food supplies to refugees near Erbil. Led by Safar personnel, hundreds of refugees were provided valuable resources in the most desperate of times. At Safar, we are proud to support our customers and community with the products and support that they need and deserve.

In recent months the expanding security issues from ISIS have created tension throughout the region, bringing worldwide attention on

the country of Iraq. From the northern region of Kurdistan to within miles of Baghdad in Falluja, mounting security issues have caused thousands to flee for safety in addition to many businesses pulling their teams out to neighboring countries, such as UAE and Kuwait. As more businesses pulled out of Iraq, various markets throughout the country were seeing valuable resources and supplies cut, creating surmounting issues with production and cost.

ONE OF A KIND SOLUTION

Initially, the load planning was done through a painstaking manual process based in Microsoft Excel that took up to 6 hours to complete each day. To address this issue, TWI commissioned the help of the IT team to develop a custom tailored Transportation Management System, at the same time to implement a system that would allow us to offer the local delivery service to other customers while decreasing the amount of time required loading plan. The decision was to utilize Microsoft Dynamic NAV 2013 R2 as the platform to implement this solution.

After three months of analysis, designing, and testing our TMS solution is up and running, able to receive incoming pallet information from customers via SFTP, allows for scanned receiving on the warehouse floor, and most importantly, automates the load planning process. As a lead project manager, it was important to work with the users to document the end to end process, analyze the business requirements, and then communicate the design and implementation to our developers. Then, together with the IT and Warehouse teams in Frankfurt, we tested and brained stormed on ways to further improve the system. The recommendation was to add a few more parameters into our system, where specific zip codes are assigned to specific truck types during the optimization calculation. This further improved the system while still giving the load planners control of the TMS’ optimization recommendation.

With this one of a kind technology implemented, we can now support a growing customer base with smart, tested, and trusted local delivery solutions. It further proves that bringing together greats minds from different departments of TWI helps create innovation that nurtures our competitive advantages in our industry.

10

As has been discussed in previous newsletters, our office in Germany opened its doors to the commercial

market in February and gained immediate traction. We now provide a growing list of customers with cross dock and local delivery services in the Frankfurt area. On a typical day, TWI receives 240-300 pallets on 5-6 inbound trucks. Those pallets must be delivered the following morning to roughly 60 distinct destinations, which leaves our load planners with a limited amount of time to develop the most cost efficient trucking routes in enough time to source the trucks on the market .

The following map shows the recurring delivery points that TWI now services within roughly 150KM of Frankfurt. These destinations range from large grocery distribution centers to small restaurants and hotels & from the heart of downtown Frankfurt to the hills of the Taunus – an impressive coverage of the economic heart of Europe.
