TRANSCRIPT
February 9th, 2013, is a day that will forev-
er be remembered as the first time in the
21st century that Bennington sent a quiz
bowl team to state. Months of hard work
had finally paid off for Adam Schieferecke,
Erick Underwood, Madison Wolf, Cameron
Stanley, Kylie Wagner, and Ryan Ostenberg.
While a state title was not achieved, the
team performed valiantly nonetheless, finishing with a record of two wins and three
losses against the state’s best. We applaud the team for their successful season, and
will be looking forward to even more successful years in the future.

Congratulations to Montana Peterson,

School. Montana took first place and
will be representing Ottawa County in
the state spelling bee on March 2nd, at Fort Hays
State Beach Schmidt Performing Arts Center. Also
congratulations to Skylar Nelson an 8th grade stu-
dent at Bennington Junior High. Skylar placed 2nd
in the spelling bee. There were 60 spellers from
all three county schools. Great job to all spellers!

The BGS 4th grade classes were entertained by the Salina Sym-
phony on Friday, January 25th. The symphony under the direc-
tion of Mr. Ken Hakoda, hosts an educational outreach concert
every year geared toward prospective band students. This
year’s concert featured the amazing Allen Vizzutti on trumpet.
He showed off his trumpet skill on 3 various pieces, one of
which he wrote himself based off of the bullet train in Japan. He
also played “The Carnival of Venice” a very showy piece that
even had the students enthralled as they watched him rotate his
trumpet upside down while he played continuously. Mr. Hakoda
and the symphony demonstrated the instruments that generally
perform in a symphony as well as showing a PowerPoint of the
instrument that was being heard. We would like to thank the
Link Club for sponsoring our bus ride there and back as well as
thanking the Salina Symphony for sponsoring this free concert.

Tescott students worked hard to raise money for the
“Million Penny Challenge” again this year. One day the stu-
dents were able to wear hats if they made a contribution
for the Million Penny Challenge!
