Out Visiting: WHO WENT VISITING IN JANUARY? Twirlers are beginning to make their presence known. Our Club had good representation at our visitations and showed fantastic support for our class members at the class dances. On January 20th Lisa Evans, Jan & Jerry Guffey, Richard & Michele Knowles, Jackie & Bill Brown, Valerie & Mike Perkins, Randy & Sue Gibson, Andy & Lorie Abeles, Alex Hernandez, Michele Polley and friend Don Richardson were at Grapestompers’ 37th Anniversary dance for the Twirlers’ Official January Visitation. On January 26th, Club dancers went in two direc-tions: Bob & Carole Stoops, Al & Carol Pitchard, Rich-ard & Michele Knowles and Beth Call were down south dancing to Vic Kaaria at Whirlaways. Traveling north to Riverside Single Swingers to support our class were Randy & Sue Gibson, Jackie & Bill Brown, Jolan Gambol, Michele Pol-ley, Jan & Jerry Guffey, Valerie & Mike Perkins, David & Merrie Ann Franks and Twirler friend Don Richardson. Then, to complete a weekend of dancing Al & Carol Pitchard, Richard & Michele Knowles, Va-lerie & Mike Perkins, Jan & Jerry Guffey, Marylou Hofmann, Emmy Bell, Michele Polley with friend Don Richardson and Jolan Gambol attended the Class dance at Cowtown. WOW! It’s great to be attending dances with so many of our Club members Class dances qualify as a visitation. All Club members who attended the Class dances will have their names added to the visitation can for each dance they attended.

BOARD MEETING BRIEFS: OLD BUSINESS: The yard sale scheduled for February 3 had to be can-celled. It is now scheduled for March 3rd.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS: A big Twirler welcome to our newest member: Lois Burton. Lois is a very experienced, long-time square dancer. She has been a big help in getting the Twirlers accepted as a Sun City Core activity. If you haven’t had a chance to meet her yet, look for her at our Tuesday Workshop and introduce your-self.

NEW BADGES:

Many of the Twirlers are wearing the new Club badge. We will be sending in another order sometime in February. If you would like to purchase one, contact Dale, Susie, or Jackie. Cost for the new badges is $10.

NEXT MEETING:

The next board meeting will be Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Da-vid & Merrie Ann Franks home, 29554 Willamette Way, Sun City at 7:00. Dinner will be at Carnitas Express at 5:30.

PRESIDENTS’ MESSAGE: Notes from the Presidents First, at the time I am writing this Earlean is in the hospital ER with a heart issue. I pray that by the time you read it we can add that she has recovered. Please keep her in your prayers. We are going to make some additions to the monthly newsletter. There will be sections devoted to member cre-ativity such as “Poems by Penny” or “Hints by Robert” or “Jokes by …”. There also be a section titled “Letters to the Editor”. The idea is to get more input from the mem-bers for the newsletter. Please submit to Tom by the 15 th of the month. As most of you know the Twirlers belong to the Cow County Hoedown Association (CCHA). This association provides insurance, publicity, and various other services for the club. They are asking for our help. The “Yellow Book” is a handbook which lets everyone know what the clubs are doing, when their dances are, who’s calling, who’s cueing, etc. They need people to subscribe to this book to keep publishing it. The cost is only $10.00 dollars a year. We are asking our club members to subscribe. It will help you to understand the square-dancing options available to you. If you are interested give me $10.00 and we will place your order. The only way to square dance well is to start out square dancing poorly and get better. No matter how long you go to classes you will not dance well the first time you attend a dance. All experienced square dancers know this. They want you to join their square, just let them know you’re a beginner so that they can help you. Please take advantage of all the class level dances that are available to you. Once you achieve mainstream level, take advantage of the Main-stream/Plus level dances that are put on by some clubs, including ours. Once you are a Plus dancer attend dances, it’s the only way to get better. Once you get good remem-ber to invite new beginners to your square and Angel for classes. It’s the Square-Dancing form of “The Circle of Life”. If nothing changes, we will be moving to the Sun City Civ-ic Association (SCCA) facility in March. We were approved by the SCCA Board last night as a Public Service Organi-zation (PSO). The facilities are great and nearly free. We will also get the facilities from 5:30 to 9:30 PM which will allow for at least 3 full hours of instruction. We are on a six-month trial. To those of you who either live in or have friends in the SCCA (Core) please begin to promote Square Dancing to them. We will need more SCCA resi-dents in the club to make this a permanent thing. .

CLASS NOTES:

Now that many of the classes that started in Sep-tember have almost finished learning the Basic calls, Class Level dances are being scheduled. It is very exciting to see so many of our current class members attending these dances. Dancing to Pat Carnathan and having fun at Riverside Single Swingers’ “Class Jubilee” dance on January 26

th were David Old,

Cathy Luchsinger, Penny Hayhurst, and Jerry & Sal-ly Ritschel. Two days later saw David Old, Jerry & Sally Ritschel , and David Ewing doing an excellent job dancing to Steve Woodard at Cowtown Singles’ first in their annual 4

th Sunday of the Month Class

Level dances. We’re looking forward to seeing them and our other class members out at other dances in the future. Caller Bob is pleased with the pregress all the class members have made and reports that they will be beginning the Mainstream calls sometime in Febru-ary.

Tell Us All About it! Fellow Twirlers, this column belongs to us! Sub-mit questions, complaints, praise, comments #1 Exactly why are there "Visitations? It sounds like "Official" ones are legal and "Scattered" ones are when you are in hiding. #2 Is the Visitation Pot a pass to the bathroom? If you "win" how long can you keep it? How is the winner chosen? Essay contest, Dance Off, peti-tion????? #3 If money is involved, where does it come from? I think these questions need to be answered! Thanks for giving us a voice!
