JANUARY BIBLE STUDY JEREMIAH – FAITHFUL TO THE MISSION

Our pastor will continue present the January Bible Study

during the Morning Worship Service as a sermon series

through the month of February. The book of Jeremiah is

featured this year. Jeremiah served as a prophet during the

final years of the Southern Kingdom (Judah). The Book of

Jeremiah not only provides a record of his sermons, discourses, and prophecies but also gives us insight into

his life and how to faithfully carry out God’s kingdom work in a challenging world. The focus of this study

is to understand the heart of the prophet and the need for believers today to faithfully proclaim the truth of

the gospel. Much like Jeremiah, we live in a world filled with rebellion against God. We too are called to

proclaim God’s judgment against sin and offer the hope found in Christ. In this 2020 January Bible Study,

we will examine the life and message of Jeremiah to gain insight into how believers today can be faithful to

the call of God in our lives. We hope that you will make every effort to join us for these special worship

services and invite “Your One”, your family, and friends.

Members Info Requested Due to the Realm membership software, we are needing

to make sure we have correct and thorough information.

Things like birthdates, wedding anniversaries, cell phone

numbers, email address, etc. Please log on to your Realm

account to verify and input this information or contact the

church office so Karen or Chloe can update it for you.

Notes from the Kitchen…. There are several dishes in the kitchen that are looking for

their owners. Some of the dishes include cake carriers.

Please take a look next time you are at the church to see if

one could belong to you.

“Who’s Your One?” Campaign

Imagine if every believer could answer that question with the name of a person who is far from God – a person for whom they’re praying and with whom seeking to share the gospel. That’s the intention behind “Who’s Your One”. Our church is prioritizing personal ownership of the Great Commission as we each intentionally pursue one person with the hope of the gospel. While we can’t do everything, we can do something. We can all take responsibility for one. We have prayer guide booklets to help you with this journey available on by the church office and on the table in the Sanctuary. You can log on to WhosYourOne.com for details and resources. Be praying for identifying who your One will be. Contact the church office or Bro. Jonathan for more info.

Music Notes ….. We need a few more ringers for our Handbell Choir which meets on Wednesdays at 5 PM. Please pray about becoming part of this ministry. Our Sanctuary Choir needs you! Come lift up your voice in song. Choir practices are held each Wednesday at 7:15 PM. Contact Mark Jordan for more information about our music ministry.

DivorceCare Group meets Wednesdays at 6:15 PM Invite those who you know that may need this group to help them during this difficult time. This begins at 6:15 p.m.

each Wednesday and child care for kids birth thru 6th Grade. Brochures are available throughout the church to

explain the program and to be used to invite people. Contact Mark Jordan or Glenda Merriman for info.

Pas tor ’ s Note …. . Greetings Church! I am excited about what the coming months hold for us as a church and to serve during this

season on of our church’s ministry.

In a couple of weeks, we will host a Family Movie Night where we will show the recently released film, Overcomer.

This is a quality motion picture with a strong, faith-based story line. Join us on Friday, February 2nd at 6:30 p.m. for this

special time of fellowship.

This is also an opportunity for you to invite your “one”–the one person for whom you have committed to pray for his

salvation, care for his needs, intentionally develop a relationship him, and share the Gospel with him. While Gospel

themes are evident throughout this film, it is also an opportunity to steer conversations toward spiritual matters. Invite

your “one,” but also “tickets” available throughout the church building and in today’s bulletin to use in invite others who

would enjoy this movie.

During our Sunday morning worship times, we will continue to walk through Jeremiah’s prophecy and discover his

how he was “Faithful to the Mission.” And his faithfulness, even during difficulties and struggles, helps us discover how

we are to be faithful to the call and commission that God has placed on our lives, which includes sharing His message

with others.

On Sunday evenings, we will complete the “Gospel Foundations” series which has taken us through the storyline of

the Bible, and we will follow-up on the Overcomer movie with a Bible Study based upon the themes presented in the

movie. Make plans now to not only join us for the Family Movie Night, but, also, participate in the Bible Studies on

Sunday Evenings.

A couple of weeks ago, Bro. Ron Thompson, our Coordinator of Missions and Ministries for District 8, spoke to our

congregation giving “All for Some.” During his message, Bro. Ron emphasized the need for reaching those in Many and

throughout Sabine Parish with the Gospel and highlighted that there are many within our community who are not like us

in a number of ways. But the focus of the message was that we can, and we should, make every effort to reach our

neighbors with the Gospel, regardless of how much alike or different they are.

One area that we, as a church and in partnership with other churches throughout Sabine Parish, have committed to

reach our neighbors is “Sabine 2020,” an evangelistic crusade scheduled for March 8th-11th at the Many High School

Gymnasium, with services nightly at 6:30 p.m. I hope you will support these efforts by, first and foremost, praying for

God to use the event for His glory and that people will come to know Him and the salvation He has provided. Then,

consider supporting our church’s special offering emphasis during the month of January, which is for providing funds for

the cost of the event. Our goal is $500 and we have only collected about $400 so far. Finally, plan on bringing your

“one” to the event. Ask them to join you for one of those evenings to simply attend a Christian event that is not at a

church.

Since I mentioned that the “Sabine 2020” crusade is our special mission emphasis for January, I want to take a

moment to highlight the rationale for these collections. Our Missions and Evangelism Committee wanted to provide an

organized, systematic method of gathering resources for various needs and ministries which we support. A challenge to

directing those resources to worthy partners in ministry was that often the request for support came at a time we had

already committed to collect another offering, in effect “doubling-up” on requests and possibly shortchanging both

groups.

Our Missions and Evangelism Committee, decided to propose a schedule of special monthly offerings, which

included our offerings for Louisiana, North American, and International missions, as well as other organizations, such as a

local crisis pregnancy center, the Gideons, and our local shelter for domestic abuse victims. Most of the goals are modest

and could be easily met if each person or family who attends regularly would give a small additional offering, in addition

to their regular tithe. In February, we are collecting an offering for the Louisiana Hunger Relief Fund.

In addition to collecting financial resources for these organizations, we have proposed collecting items for various

purposes and ministries, such as WMU projects and the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home food drive. In January, and

into February, we are collecting can goods for our church’s food pantry. This is another opportunity we have to support

missions and ministry, most with our immediate area, with needed resources. Please, if you have not already, consider

providing nonperishable food items to help restock our pantry. Our emphasis for February will be an egg drive for the

Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.

Thank you for your commitment to Connect, Grow, and Serve together at First Baptist Church. I will see you

Sunday,

—Jonathan
