The official name of Twitter's bird is Larry Bird. He was named after Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird.
Why choose to name the bird after a basketball star who played in Boston? It may have to do with Twitter co-founder Stone growing up in Massachusetts.

Ask for participation from users, use the word “retweet” within your tweet and you are much more likely to see retweets. Business have used a method called “Flock to unlock” where promotions and discounts are offered once a tweet has been shared a certain number of times.
Offer twitter-only discounts and promotions, this will increase followers as it is exclusive to twitter

Do not over tweet, this is a good way to lose followers
A study done by Korean researchers on more than 1.2 million twitter accounts found the number one cause of losing followers is due to “Burst” tweeting
Burst tweeting is when many tweets are sent out in a short period of time, leading to clogging of followers news feeds
Make sure to still tweet enough to keep users interested, users will unfollowaccounts that are not active in their twitter feed

Sprout Social- A popular app that is used for twitter teams where more than once person is managing an account. This service is much more geared towards actual business instead of information sharers
Followerwonk- A great app for finding new users and experts in any industry. It allows you to compare users with on another so you can analyze what works in your career focus on twitter, and connect with other who can work with co-branding efforts

Twitter analytics- A tool for twitter that provides easy to read layouts of data surrounding twitter profiles such as most shared tweets, the times they were shared, and who exactly is sharing them. It also can track how many times a user clicked and read a tweet
Tweetdeck- A built in part of the twitter website, tweetdeck lets users customize the way they use and view tweets. It makes for easier organization and multiple accounts can be used at a time. This an app that be installed into a computers general apps as well as into browers such as chrome. Other users that use tweetdeck can access tweets over 140 characters through shortened links.
Bit.ly- A website used to shorten links and be able to tweet them as well. Bit.lylinks are also easily tracked on the website so you can find if others have tweeted the same content and how many people have clicked your link

Buffer- An app that can be used to send out tweets on a set schedule. Any number of tweets can be entered into it and buffer will ensure they are tweeted throughout a set time. This site also provides analytics on tweets, such as what time of the day are people becoming most engaged with tweets
Cotweet- An app used mostly by brands and businesses, it allows the tracking of all conversation about their companies. The basic version is free while the enterprise version is $1500 per month
Cybranding- This popular app lets you analyze any word that has been hashtagged. You can find out how many times this word is used, who is using it the best, and related hashtags people are using

Topsy- A very useful website that will let you see how many times a certain link has been tweeted and talked out on all of twitter
Triberr- This service offers communities of similar twitter users to find each other and join groups where they can work together to enhance each others twitter use. Members can set accounts up to automatically tweet anything shared by others users within the group
Tweriod- Another tool for tracking the best possible times to send out tweets. The site provides a report showing when your followers are most active and what tweets are getting the most views
