Power the iPhone 5 OFF before beginning this repair. Remove two 3.6 mm Pentalobe screws next to the Lightning port connector with special 5 point Pentalobe screwdriver. 2 6 1 5 3 7 R 4 Place a suction cup onto the screen, just above the home button. (If screen is shattered use a piece of packing tape to get a seal). With one hand, pull upward on the suction cup to slightly separate the front LCD assembly from the rear case. Take your time and apply firm but constant force. The display assembly is a tight fit. Using a plastic spudger or opening tool, begin to gently pry the LCD assembly upward away from the frame of the iPhone, pulling with the suction cup. Several clips attach the LCD assembly to the rear case, so you may need to use a combination of the suction cup and plastic spudger running up the sides to free the front panel assembly. DO NOT try to completely remove the LCD assembly from the frame. There are 3 flex cables still attached to the top of the iPhone. Once the clips have been released on the bottom and sides of LCD assembly, lift the bottom of the assembly away from the rear case to about a 90 degree angle. Remove the following screws securing the LCD assembly flex cable bracket to the logic board and slide toward battery: Two 1.2 mm Phillips screws One 1.6 mm Phillips screw (Alloy screw, Non-Magnetic) Remove two screws securing the front-facing camera bracket to the display assembly. Front-Facing Camera and Sensor Cable: Starting under the earpiece speaker contacts, use a plastic opening tool or the tip of a spudger to peel the front facing camera cable out of the display assembly. CAUTION: The flex cable is held with double sided adhesive, slowly peel away without tearing the cable. Lift and set aside the home button flex cable. Inspect home button flex cable for damage. Remove the final two LCD retaining screws from LCD assembly. One is longer than the other. Lift the LCD retaining plate out. IMPORTANT! STEP 1: (see Step 5) A) When reassembling the front facing camera/ proximity sensor cable ensure the upper microphone silver tube is seated properly inside its boot. STEP 2: (see Step 2) A) The flex cable retaining plate has three angled brackets that must align to the inner frame of the logic board and slide from left (battery side) to right. Improperly seating this plate can damage the flex cables. Separate home button: The home button is held in with a rubber skirt attached with adhesive, take care not to tear the rubber skirt. Using tweezers or the tip of a spudger dig underneath the home button skirt to remove. NOTE: you may have to apply pressure on the outside; by pressing the physical home button toward the inside the LCD assembly to break the adhesive loose. Remove the two left and right screws from the sides of the LCD frame (four total). Home button and flex cable removal: Remove the two screws securing the home button to LCD assembly Using the tip of a spudger pry the edge of the home button ribbon cable up from the LCD assembly. Start behind the contact points on the top and work toward the bottom. CAUTION: The home button flex cable has adhesive, hot air may be needed to loosen adhesive. Be gentle when peeling. STEP 2: (see Step 2)A) The flex cable retaining plate has three angled brackets that must align to the inner frame of the logic board and slide from left (battery side) to right. Improperly seating this plate can damage the flex cables.

Separate home button:The home button is held in with a rubber skirt attached with adhesive, take care not to tear the rubber skirt.

Using tweezers or the tip of a spudger dig underneath the home button skirt to remove.NOTE: you may have to apply pressure on the outside; by pressing the physical home button toward the inside the LCD assembly to break the adhesive loose.

Remove the two left and right screws from the sides of the LCD frame (four total).
